We had to cancel last minute and when I called I got a machine. I left a message. They called me back and left a message for me to call them back...when I did I got the machine again... between the 2 calls I get a charge on my checking

Waste of time and money.. My wife and I had a miserable experience on the Dinner train. It was at least a 100 deg. in our train cab since the A/C was out. The wait staff was even complaining. We opted to sit in the bar car because the A/C was working in there. About half way into the ride the bathroom in the bar car began to leak all over the bar car carpet and so my wife and I made a quick escape back to our stiffing car. The food was OK but should have been better for the money that was spent. Don't waste your money on this and do something else in Mt. Hood.

My family of 7 went on the Murder Mystery train last weekend. The A/C on the dining car we were on was out and had been out off & on the preceding 3 weeks. It was very hot & stuffy since the windows do not go down. We had to have the door open with the engine right behind our car, very noisy. Nothing was mentioned about the possibility of this when the reservation was made. The salmon was dry and roast beef was very fatty. On top of the $80 dollars you pay, there is gratuity added on top of that. Out of the $80 you pay, $30 is for the dinner and you pay 20% of that, plus your drinks and gratuity on your drinks. None of this is told you when you make your reservations. And there is a reason you are asked if everyone in your party is over 13. The actors/costumes are pretty raunchy. Definitely not for everybody. Beware! The only redeeming thing about this ride was the scenery. But I definitely would not take the 4 hour ride again. Not worth the money, time, or gas. I wish I had read some of the other reviews before I booked this.

This fall, four of us made reservations on the Mt. Hood Railroad. The ride was advertised as an "Autumn Festival" ride. The cost was a hefty $27, so our expectations were high.
Upon our arrival in the train car, we noticed a putrid odor. The entire cabin smelled like a downtown parking garage corner. Several of the seats had noticeable stains.
Our seats were supposed to have been facing each other, but were not. Riding on a train for an hour while not being able to talk to each other did not appeal to us, so we moved to the other train car in search of facing seats. We found them, but this cabin was unheated, and we had to keep our coats on,
There was a layover in a small town. A craft fair had been advertised, but there were 2 vendors present, selling rocks and cutting boards!!! The town consisted of 2 gas stations and 2 restaurants. We stood in a long line to buy coffee.
The train made several stops to let other trains pass. The scenery was not that great: lots of views of warehouses.
The railroad refunded $2 because of the absence of vendors, but refused to refund our money for this horrible experience.
If you are tempted to take this ride, DON'T. I recommend taking the scenic drive in your car and stopping at Multnomah Falls for their excellent brunch.

This is a 4 hour train ride, wich goes two hours one way, and then 2 hours back. It started out OK. The food and service were average, and the staff was friendly. The scenery wasn't what was expected. There's about 30 minutes of river view, but it's mostly views of trailer parks and people's back yards. About a half an hour into the return trip the engine broke down and we had to wait for another engine to come and get us. This was the dinner train, and it was supposed to last from 5:30 to 9:30, but we didn't get back until close to midnight. The "murder mystery" actors tried to draw out the show to keep us entertained, but it just made it worse. I noticed at about 10:30 that one of the actors looked completely wasted, and a person at my table said she saw him driniking in the bar car. We ended up getting a deck of cards to entertain ourselves, becuase by 10:00 nobody cared who the murderer was anymore. The air conditioning is minimal, so by the time it was finally over, I was sweaty and so bored. I understand that things break, and it would have been ok if they would have made it right, but when it was all said and done they didn't offer to comp a penny. We paid full price for everything. This was the worst $200.00 I have ever spent, and i don't recommend it to anyone.

Pros: Nothing really. Everything was just average

Cons: You can't ever leave

Fewer than sixty miles east of Portland, this classic railroad's four-hour round trip is one of the best ways to see the Mt. Hood area. Built about 100 years ago, this vintage engine will take you from the Columbia Gorge to the foothills of Mt Hood, April through December. One package even offers a narrated tour, while others will provide you with dinner.

Family took an excursion ride (lunch). Really enjoyed the scenery and the tour narrator's comments (very humorous and informative).

My only complaint would be that we wished we had more time in Park View. One hour is barely enough time to eat, visit the rest room and just start exploring ...... we didn't get to go into more than one local business because of the time constraint.

Some of us dozed off on the ride back. Really a fun family day.
