If you?ve ever had the pleasure to stay in a quaint Bed & Breakfast in the hill towns of Tuscany and been served amazing culinary preparations unlike anything touted as ?Italian? so typical of the Italian restaurants of America? then you?ll fully appreciate your dining experience at Sugo. This is not ?typical? Italian, but more accurately, authentic Italian.
Some claim Sugo to be Mediterranean.. Authentic Italian cuisine is Mediterranean. I call Sugo ?Italian?? but yeah, it?s a mix of a little Italian, a little Greek, and a whole lot of ?unique?. I don?t do big nationwide mass production, processed food restaurants. At Sugo, its fresh prepared daily, just like in the old country, just like at home.
I read one of the other reviews here. It was less than appreciative, rated the restaurant very poorly. That reviewer couldn?t be more wrong; said something about being loud, fake, well rehearsed, bland food. Clearly that poster was looking for another ?typical? restaurant. In fact, the bread is fresh baked all night long, so if it takes a bit time? its worth the wait.
The ?C?s? are native?s of Rhode Island, so expect a big New York ?Hi! How are ya! Look who?s here!? of a welcome.
Mr. C is a master architect when it comes to ingredients and preparation. With each bite your mouth with go through a culinary "mouth explosion" as you try to decipher ?wow, what?s in this??. Take your time, go slow, and savor every bite. You?ll be tempted to scarf. Don?t! Make it a slow indulgence.
I?ve made an entire meal by ordering a smorgasbord of tapas. Try putting Eggplant Montassio, Hunters Sausage, Euro Mushrooms, the Geek Salad (amazingly different!), and Pan Aglio y Olio together.
I've had everything on the menu, but I'm partial to the specials!
My favorites menu & specials:
Pork Paladar, the Braciole, and High Tide, Lamola, Saltimboka, Tallagio, Involtini.
Say hello to Robert, Heather, Krystal, Zata, Sara, Nancy (Mrs. ?C?), and of course Mr. ?C?.
Pros: Quality, consistency, friendly, value, service, unique, flavor.
Cons: Wish there was one in Michigan.
