Lute Riley Honda is diserputable and untrustworthy

by Sara C.

My husband and I bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris this spring (2009). The price was ok, and we put $1500 down. We signed the financing contract but when we got home and looked at it very carefully-- and I mean carefully, embedded in the document was an extended warranty. Instead of applying our $1500 to the principle balance of our loan, they "sold" us an extended warranty for exactly $1500 dollars! We called them immediately and they told us they would take it off, as we had not been told of this. We even went back the next day and signed a document and they gave us a receipt saying it would be removed. It has been 7 months and to date nothing has been changed. The worst of it is we are "in limbo" without a warranty and not having our down payment applied to our financing-- which was through their own "bank." Be ware of scams like this and read the super, and I mean super fine print!

Bad service by Lute Riley Service advisor

by Srin B.

I went to Lute Rilley to show my maintanence light on. At the same time I thought of asking why my stering wheel was shaking. Service technician said he will check and let me know via phone. So I left the car at the dealership and went back to work. Until 3.30pm I never heard a word from Dave. He didnt had a courtesy to call me and give me an update. I left him a Voice mail and waited for half hour. Then I was worried so i called again and was somehow able to get hold of Dave. He said today the technicians were very busy due to unexpected vehicles in repair. He said technicians will look into it and let me know within an hour. So I waited for an hour, but again there was no call from Dave. Then I called again and he said we just came from a ride and the technician found out that the tires are gone bad due to the old bad struts. I asked I replaced my struts last year and I do rotate my tire timely. He said the current struts are good, but the old struts prior to the current one cause the problem and due to that tires went bad. So I asked him so when can I get my car, he said will let me know. I asked for a shuttle ride and he said he will let me know about that as well. I waited for another half hour and never got a call back from him. So I asked my wife to come and pick me and drop me at the dealership. When i went there he said everything is ok only I have to replace ALL 4 tires. I said 2 tires were installed recently and the other 2 were still 25% left according to Discount Tires. Why should I replace all 4, he said because they have all gone bad. Later he billed me $109 total because technician spent time in investigation. I was very unhappy. I paid and left the dealership and thought of taking another opinion. So I took the car to NTB. They did a free check on my car and they told me the steering wheel shake was because the tire pressure was low and he filled the air in them and I saw the shaking problem was fixed. They suggested if possible to replace just the 2 tires and alignment.

This clearly tells me this service advisor lied to me and they never did proper test and just ripped off my $109. I will never trust Mr Dave Goldammer and I will think again visiting Lute Rilley once again.

My Fabulous Experiance With Eric

by B D.

I was reading the bad reviews for this place and I was a little shocked, I'm thinking maybe it was their car salesmen.
My Fiance just bought a 2009 Handa Accord LX from there back in April, and now were looking for another one for me. I can't speak for the other sales men, but definately go see Eric. He is fabulous.

Stay away from these crooks!!

by Outdoor G. | insider Insider | Rank: 31,604

My girlfriend and myself went to Lute Riley Honda in Richardson to see about purchasing a used car. We met with a salesman and he informed us that before he could speak to us about purchasing a car, I had to sign an agreement that stated that if the both of us agreed upon a price, I would purchase the car. I told him I really didnt see the need to sign this agreement but he said if I didnt, he could not show us any cars.

I reluctantly signed the agreement only because my girlfriend found a car she liked. We then started negotiations on the price. He kept pulling the old routine of going back to the manager when I made counter-offer to their final price. I was getting tired of this and finally when it became apparent we would not agree on price, we got up to leave.

As we were walking out, I saw the salesman speaking to his manager who I later found out was Troy Woods. As we walked outside, Troy Woods came after us. It was night time and we had just stepped out of the building and he followed us outside. He walked toward us in a threatening manner and he started talking to me in a very loud voice, angry voice.

He said I had signed an agreement to purchase a car and now I was backing out of our agreement. I told him that we had not agreed upon a price so I was not bound to buy anything. He stared yelling at me, telling me my word was no good and generally doing his best to harass us and embarrass me in front of my girlfriend, which I think was his main intention.

I could not believe someone that represented a company would act in this threatening, harassing manner. As you could imagine, I was very angry. The next day I sent a letter to Lute Riley Honda about what had happened. They responded to my letter basically defending his harassing behavior as being an aggressive sales manager.

I would advise anyone looking to purchase a car to avoid this place unless you want to be forced to sign an agreement and then verbally harassed and embarrassed if you dont purchase a car. I have never heard of a car dealership pulling this kind of unethical sales tactic.

LIARS and CHEATS- Don't go here

by Linda R.

As someone else said, these people are so slimy because they do not honor the car quotes that were made online or on the phone, even if you have the quote in writing.

Seems like Honda dealerships are doing a bait and switch on consumers. They list the car price online with all of the features, then when you get to the dealership, and they tell you that the car has add-ons. These add-ons,which I didn't want, made the sticker price a couple more thousand. You can get these features for a couple hundred dollars else where.

So, since the price quoted did not include these add-ons, they add on a couple more thousand. I asked for a car without the add-ons as listed online, but they said all of the cars have these add-ons. When we asked why these features weren't listed online with the actual price, we got no reply.

Even when we talked with the manager about his illegal practices, he didn't seem to get it. He wasn't too bright.

For those people who gave this place a good review, they must be employees or did not realize that they were being had. Probably, they were told that they would get the add-ons free, but they would have to pay the actual price.

It's a shady place, and we did report them to the Federal Trade Commission. Ended up buying a Toyota Camry in McKinney--excellent and intelligent car salespeople.

Don't waste your time here.

Buy your car elsewhere

by Bradley W. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,130

I bought a car from them and had it serviced there for over 7 years and I must say this dealer is nothing but scum. Their business practices are horrendous. I had a member of their body shop tell me that because I wasn't making an insurance claim on some work I needed done that it would cost me $1000 (every other dealer in the area quoted me $500-$650). He was scamming his customers and would eventually be fired. They quoted me $150 more for a set of tires than my local NTB. Every time there was something wrong with my car, it was labeled as my fault. They have zero customer service skills. They just want your money. I would never buy another car from them again. BEWARE!

Used Car Purchase

by Mark A.

Bought a vehicle and the check engine light came on before I got the vehicle home. After several trips back to the dealership was finally told they would not correct the issue. Per one of their mechanics they had tried to correct the issue before. They apparently clear computer codes to sell cars. Also they added a 300 dollar dealer fee to the purchase which was not in the Ebay add. This is simply not ethical.

If you have a Honda, get your service here!

by Sallie L. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,009

They do an excellent job of service. They have 4 "quick lube" bays for oil change and quick jobs. I recommend call for an appointment for more major service. They will give you a ride home, and pick you up if necessary. I have not had any problems with them. They have a night-owl drop box if you want to leave your car before they open.

Service at Lute Riley

by Maribeth L.

I've had my Civic Hybrid since 2002; I originally bought it at Lute Riley. During that time, Steve Spade, in the service department, has been a tremendous help. He is unfailingly courteous, respectful and prompt. He keeps a record of our transactions, and is always ready with the record when I arrive. Steve answers his phone and returns messages within hours; and when I turn my car over to him, I am sure it is cared for as if it were his.

Steve always makes me feel the car is in competent hands; I trust the dealership, knowing they have such an employee.

new and used car sales

by Bill H. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 93

Even though we have not purchased an automobile from this agency, we have had service work done here for many years with satisfactory results. That work has been competitively price with other Honda dealerships.

Good Experience

by SavvyCat M. | insider Insider | Rank: 19,605

My car was totaled by someone driving while talking on a cell phone. I had looked at the redesigned Honda Civic online and wanted one, but wasn't planning to buy a new car for a few years. But in September 2005 I had to buy a new car and that's what I wanted. The problem was that none had been delivered to the Dallas metro area yet.

Marc Dupuy at Lute Riley search around and found one he could get in for me, so I was the first to get one of those really cool coupes in Dallas. Whee! :)

The experience was great. They explained every little thing and didn't treat me like a stupid woman. Because the car was so heavily desired, they wouldn't budge on the price, but they were very flexible on the financing and went out of their way to beat the financing I had prearranged with another bank before I went in.

Service has been pretty good, except for a nasty issue with their body shop. Please see my review on the Lute Riley Body Shop and STAY AWAY. Otherwise, I think you'll have a good experience with the dealership. Just take the car someplace else if something cosmetic happens to it.

PROS: Flexible and Fair
CONS: Really BAD Body Shop

Horrible experience

by Missy D. | insider Insider | Rank: 20,172

We bought a brand new car from this dealership and had problems from day one. Each time we brought the car in, it came out with more problems than it went in with. They never got anything right, only made things worse. We worked with them for a few months and finally just gave up. Our car was never fixed correctly but we felt we had to just suck it up as it kept getting worse each time we dealt with them.

Stay away from this place - they are unethical!!

My girlfriend and myself went to Lute Riley Honda in Richardson to see about purchasing a used car. Go anywhere else

by FredKastingow

Wow, how much worse can it get? My wife and I called ahead of time and asked if they had any used trucks, the salesperson on the phone told us that they had several. So we brought both of our cars to Lute Riley to get them appraised and possibly spend $9000 cash on a used vehicle. They took our keys and left us waiting for nearly two hours. During that time we were not shown any cars, all the sales-people ignored us except a nice guy named John Miles (but he was a new car salesman). After 90 minutes I asked for my keys back and told them that I was leaving and the salesman pleaded with us to stay. He was telling us that he would get us some "wild deals". We waited longer and the salesman finally took us to see the used cars. I asked him if they had any trucks in their inventory and he told me that they had only "one". And it was far too overpriced for me to consider. He continued to show us cars, trying to pressure me into making a decision for a higher mileage compact car. But I didn't want one because that's exactly what we were trading in. I waited and waited for our appraisal. We were told by the salesman that they were able to give "higher trade in values than most other dealerships. But after nearly four hours we found out that both of our cars (which we drive every day) were worth a combined total of $500 trade-in value. Yes, that's right. .. If you are trading in a 97 Ford Taurus with 88,000 miles and a 98 Ford Ranger with 119,000 miles, then this dealership will give you $500 in trade in value for both. Suffice it to say, we left. So if you think that this would be a positive experience for you, then I'd encourage you to head down to Lute Riley Honda. Have fun!

Pros: not sure. . . maybe the lunch that they provided?

Cons: Long wait, constant lies, broken promises

never honor their own quotes

by EL13

These people are just a bunch liars.
They will give you a quote over the phone and then you will never get the price they quoted you. Internet sales team is a real joke. Also they load vehicles with bunch of overpriced, ugly looking accessories which they also try to add to the price and which makes it 1500-2500 more than a sticker price. Wheel locks that Honda sells for $65 (when you can find aftermarket for $25) in Lute Riley will cost you $295. Same factor you can apply to everything else they sell. Never will step into this place again!!!

Pros: not aware of any

Cons: they will lie to you over the phone to get you there

Awesome Dealer to work with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by socal7

I called several Honda dealerships in the metroplex to get a price quote on a New Honda Accord. What I like about Lute Riley's staff is that they are honest upfront. They shared all the tricks that other dealerships try to pull, but I didnt pay attention at first. I was just looking at the sale price. i went to other dealerships and they added $2500-$3000 after market equipment which ultimately raised my price. That's what Lute Riley warned me about. So went a head and bought from Lute Riley. They have the best Management Team.

Pros: honest, accurate and friendly staff

Cons: n/a

?BEWARE OF LUTE RILEY KHANS (AKA ?CONS?)

by kuppuda

My experience with Lute Riley was totally opposite. On the way to another place recommended by our friends, I stopped at Lute Riley to look for a used car. The salesman (Khan) really conned us into buying a Honda Accord 2004 (total cost $17,000) car with all the promises to fix things like body scratches, suspension, brake (grabbling), etc. He was practically begging us using the common Asian heritage as a hook. After signing the papers, they completely changed their tune and giving us a hard time. On top of that, I was out of town and when my wife went to the place next day with her friend, the people at Lute (almost all the sales people we faced were named KHANS) completely ignored her and refuse to even talk to her. After I came back from my trip, I went with her. After a long battle with the KHANS, they took the car with a promise to fix all the things listed as a pre-sale requirement. Few days later, they called my wife saying that everything is fixed. But to our dismay, we noticed that most of the things were not fixed as promised. When I called the service man (not KHAN. but CHEEK for a change), he talked rude and almost hung up on me saying things like: ?I am the last person who can help me in this dealership. Do whatever you want. Take it or leave it. This is the best we can do?, etc. Overall, it did not sound like I am the customer and they are the vendor. I have to be at their mercy for the things they need to fix as a pre-sales requirement.

THAT PLACE IS HORRIBLE., ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A NON-WHITE CUSTOMER. YOU WILL BE BETTER OFF STAYING AWAY FROM THAT PLACE, ESPECIALLY FROM THE ?KHANS?. THEY ARE WORSE THAN CAR DEALERS! (NO PUN INTENDED). THEY ARE ?CONMEN? TRYING TO SELL ANYTHING WITH A PROMISE THAT CAN BE BROKEN THE MINUTE YOU SIGN THE PAPERS. ?BEWARE OF LUTE RILEY KHANS (AKA ?CONS?)

Pros: NONE

Cons: EVERYTHING (ATLEAST FOR A NON_WHITE CONSUMER)
