I decided to try the place with a coupon I found and boy am I glad I didnt pay full price for an 18" cheese pizza. The pizza was extremely salty and the sauce tasted like " Little Ceasars". yuck! Truly dissapointed at the the reviews that stated the best "NY style Pizza in Raleigh" because it's not at all but if you dont belive me try it at your own risk... .

My fiance and I just ordered delivery from here tonight. My mom had been there over the summer and told me to go but I hadn't gotten around to trying it. Oh my goodness. I'm so glad I did. It's a little pricier than I normally like to pay

I have been eating at this bistro for a least the past five years. It never fails. Great staff, great food and service. Last night my daughters and I ate here and again were fully satisfied. The staff here knock themselves out to be most accommodating. I highly recommend them .

I'm sorry... paying $8.30 for a small bowl of pasta with sauce is simply too much. NOTHING came with it. Waitress took 15 minutes to deliver soup (which I was hoping would come before the meal) and the whole meal, which she served together. I will not be back.

Assaggio's Italian Bistro is a great place for casual Italian in the Raleigh area. I have always been pleased with their pizzas, pasas and calzones. They also have a sports bar area.

I can always find something tasty on the menu, and have been going here for years. Nice staff and management, huge food portions, and easy-going, family-friendly atmosphere. Good selection of entrees and wine-by-the-glass.

I'm from the tri-state area and really haven't been impressed with the pizza down here in NC. However Assaggio's is on point. If you miss real NY style pizza this is your place. It's not too doughy, not too crispy, but right in the middle. Haven't tried the pasta yet, but it looks just as good. The place is clean, great ambience, and quick service. Recommended as a refuge for displaced new yorkers.

Pros: The panoramic of Yankee Stadium in the men's room sold me before I even ate.

Cons: A little pricey, but definitely worth it.

We stop here sometimes for lunch on Sunday's after church. It's always very tasty. The staff is fine, nothing out of the ordinary. The portions are large and you could possibly get a second one out of them. It's kid friendly and worth a visit.

We order take-out from time to time and Assaggio's is excellent. The prices are reasonable as the portions are huge. One entree is easily two meals. The kid sized portions are enough for one adult for dinner. The food is very tasty, especially the eggplant parmigiana.

This place is awesome. We moved down from NY in 2004, and ever since then have tried every acclaimed pizza place in the area. We lived in Apex for a while and fell in love with NY Pizza in Holly Springs. The only downside to NY Pizza is that they only have pizza, no classic Italian take-out. When we moved to North Raleigh, we tried Assagio's because it gets such good reviews. After trying it, we agree with everyone else who loves it! Their pizza is as good as the best places in NY--it's always super fresh, the sauce is tangy but not too sweet. The only problem is that you have to order it "well-done" or it might be a bit soupy. Also, their prices are a bit steep, but when you have the best Italian take-out in Raleigh, you can charge what you want. Their garlic knots are perfection and their pasta dishes are heaven. This place is the dog's bollocks. As for the preceding review, I can only guess that it was posted by a competitor OR someone who ordered on an off night (though I highly doubt Assagio's ever has an off night...).

Cons: A little overpriced

If you miss the NY/NJ pizza, this is not the place!! Whatever you do, please DO NOT order a sub. I went there mouth watering for a good "New York" sub. (That's what they claim). It came out and had 2 slices of ham, 1 slice of salami and lettuce. When I asked the owner about it, he said "That's how we make it". I've never had a sub up north like that. The pizza usually comes out doughy. Not great!! :( I've also tried their Italian dishes, it's alright, but for the price you are better off going to Daniels in Apex. Now that is AWESOME!!!! :) You may have to drive but it's well worth it and you get a lot more food for the price.

We love Assagio's and order from there at least once a week. The pizza is always fresh- the crust crispy, and the sauce is great! We've never had a bad experience there- either with the food or with the service. Occasionally we stop and eat there on the way to a movie- they do have table service- and they're always very friendly. Highly Recommended!

We ordered lasagna, garlic knots, and salad from Assaggio's for a luncheon we had at work. Yum, yum, and yum. The lasagna was really darned tasty! The garlic knots were smothered in garlic and had plenty at the bottom of the pan. I can't tell you how much I like garlic! It's going to be permeating through my pores all day. I'm sure my coworkers will love me by 5 pm. The salad was a standard salad, but they put extra peppercinis in there. I think I could eat a whole bucket filled with those garlic knots. YUM!

I'd definitely like to try their pizza one day. I betcha it's outta this world!

So, our old house was a short 10 min. walk to Assaggio's. Now, it's a 10 minute drive and we still eat Assaggio's every other week at least. Albeit, the prices are somewhat high, yet the value is outstanding and the food is worth every penny. Their garlic knots are out of this World and their pizza, pastas, calzones & stromboli's are always hot, fresh, and superb. I think their marinara sauce is just right (it's not too sweet, not too salty, it's a perfect balance for the meal).

Their casual environment is surprisingly intimate and their staff are super friendly. The manger (I think he's the owner since he's ALWAYS there) is a genuine guy and it's nice to feel like you are getting such high quality food in a little neighborhood restaurant.

Only negative, they don't have a website, but that has zero impact on the quality of their food.

This restaurant's concept is interesting. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a stand with a number and your food is delivered. Sounds like a step above Sbarrao's. But the prices are that, if not, more than that of a good, "normal" Italian restaurant. The dining room is lit like a romantic restaurant. But there is a do-it-yourself soda fountain. The restaurant can't seem to decide what it is.

I had a spinach calzone and it was fine. The round garlic rolls were pretty good. Others at our table had subs and manicotti.

So, overall, I wasn't too impressed with the setup of the restaurant but food was good, yet a little pricey.

Assaggio's serves top quality food with a great relaxing atmosphere without uppity jerks wandering around everywhere. I've tried a handful of things on the menu and have yet to find something I dislike. Everyone I have introduced to this place has immediately fallen in love with it. Just go there.

My family LOVES the pizza and can't get enough of it! The prices are very reasonable. Unless you are going to one of those swanky Italian restaurants downtown for a swanky night out, then stay close to home and get the quality without the price!

It's hard not to get the pizza, although their pasta dishes are great! Take home the refrigerated sauces and pastas as well to make your own creations.

Although we usually take the pizza home, all of the food is best right out of their oven - so eating there is advised - good advise for any Italian food.

You will never want to go to Olive Garden or Ragazzis again!

if you like to be able to get your own drinks and order at the counter, this is a great italian resturant. The food is very good, the staff is wonderful and they are very good to the kids in the crew.

Yes, you can get some bad food there as with any resturant. I'm not a huge fan of their marinara sauce, I personally think it needs more spices but with every resturant, you can't spice things up too much, you have to feed the masses and it is very good.

Ordering pizza by the slice there is just like ordering it anywhere. You never know how old it really is. However, of all the times we have eaten there, we only had 1 bad meal and that was because the cook overcooked the meal that night, every other time we have had it, it has been wonderful. My friends wouldn't recommend the white pizza but that's their taste.

I have had some great meals there. My prefered meal is the Chicken Marsalla. The only complaint I have is that it has too many mushrooms, but I'm not a big mushroom fan. Someone in my family has eaten almost every non-seafood dish there and we love it.

Listen, if you go to an Italian Restaurant and order a reuben and you dont like it, you deserve it and by the way you are also a schmuck. Ordering a Reuben at Assaggio's is like ordering Falafel at a Chinese Takeout. I am from Bklyn, I know good Pizza and Italian and Assaggio's is where its at in Raleigh.
Lesson of the Day: Its wise to order Italian Food at an Italian restaurant)

I love Assaggio's! My husband and I eat here all the time. It's got great quality food--the kind you'd find in uppity expensive restaurants, but here you order at the counter and it's brought out quickly, and it's quite a bargain for how much food you get (I get at least 2 meals out of every dinner!). Their pizza is also great, NY style. Pasta Assaggio's is my favorite dish. Garlic knots are great, too!

This was some of the worst food I've had since I've moved here. Granted, I only ordered a sanwich, but my Ruebem was ice cold in the center and kinda warm on the outside...and the bread was soggy. Yuck. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Food was excellent. My aunt had the eggplant Ratoullie (sp?) and it came with fresh, melted mozzarella slices on top MMMM... and I ordered the special which was mushroom ravioli with a marsala wine sauce. It was divine. I have been telling my friends about how great and authentic tasting the food was and I will definitely be going back. They had great service and the decor was simple and charming. They have a nice trellis with lights and pictures of Venice. I think the restaurant is more suited for casual dining than formal b/c you do order at the counter.

Growing up in Philly and NY and having lived in the heart of Soprano-land north Jersey, we struggled when we first arrived in Raleigh to find a true taste of home...we found it at Assaggio's. This is true NY style pizza...if you question that, you've never really had it...crust, sauce, cheese are all perfect. Pasta dishes are all wonderful...from the authentic pasta itself to the fresh, perfectly seasoned sauces, to the generous portions. The gnocchi is perfectly light and fantastic with either the homemade marinara or the tomato cream sauce (a great recommendation from our favorite server). The garlic knots are, in a word, addictive. Salads are always fresh and crisp. Even though you order at the counter then seat yourself, the service is always friendly, fast and helpful. Wherever you live in the Triangle, it's worth the drive and close to "home."

The pizza is ok, as long as it is warm. As it cools, the overwhelming use of parmisian makes it inedible. The sauce is mediocre at best. Pity folks who think this is good pizza! Perhaps it is the best is Raleigh..because pizza in Raleigh blows. This is mediocre at best.

I don't think you can make Italian food worse than this. They managed to make sub-par Baked Ziti. Do you know how HARD it is to mess up Ziti? Anyway, I digress. The baked ziti was my first attempt to eat their food. It came out tasting very bland, and was a very large disappointment. I tried again a few weeks later with a stromboli. Again, disappointment. The stromboli was hard and really almost unchewable.

Not knocking the staff, they were great. The food was just really, really BAD. I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to european food, and italian food in particular. I don't want to sound pretentious, but I honestly feel sorry for you people who've said this was the best food in the area.

It's not.

Not by a long shot.

As someone just out of college i have eaten my share pizza and Italian food. As a professional chef I have prepared my share of Italian food as well, and I always love eating at Assagios. It is not fast food. It is not Papa John's, Ragazzi's, or any other chain. This is homemade made-from-scratch quality food! That means a pizza will take more than five minutes, but that also means it is well worth the wait. And don't forget to check out their deli section also! Assagios sells a range of gourmet desserts, deli meats, and international cheeses, as well as expensive wines sold at a discount to diners and loose lentils, beans and peas. I guearantee if you know and appreciate food you WILL enjoy your trip to Assagios!

I cannot believe that someone gave a bad review because they ordered pizza by the slice and the slices were not fresh. What do they expect--for the restaurant to make a fresh pizza and cut their two slices and throw the rest away? I have lived in Raleigh for 15 years (transplant from NEW YORK and yes, I am Italian) and have tried dozens of pizza places. Assaggio pizza is the best in Raleigh! Order the large size, and expect them to pull up a second table since it is HUGE! The sauce is tangy and the entire pizza is perfect EVERY TIME. Bye the way, the italian dinners are equally as good and you get a lot for your money! I will drive an extra ten minutes to eat at Assaggios any day. The attmosphere is very attractive and the parking is plentiful too.

The BEST NY pizza in Raleigh - period. Don't order the slices and expect a miracle ... they are warmed up slices. Order the whole pie and enjoy! Also, we have never been disappointed by their dinner specials - always a treat.

The crust is thin, but not cracker-thin. It's NY-Style pizza; I am not sure how else to describe it. We have never ordered the pizza by-the-slice, so I can't speak to the quality of the slices.

Assagios has a deli stocking Boar's Head meats. They also have a frozen section that sells sauces and pasta, as well as a dessert case that always tempts me. The atmosphere is casual/seat-yourself, and you order food at the counter. Sometimes we eat in, but I mostly prefer to take-out.

Moved to the neighborhood a few months ago, and find we either eat in or take-out from Assagios at least once a week. The food is almost always excellent, and the service is very good. Simply stated, it's well worth the trip.

My sister and I just ate at Assagio's last night based on the reviews already posted. We were very disappointed! We ordered pizza slices and salad. The pizza had obviously been sitting around for a while and then reheated. The crust was tough on the bottom and soggy on the top, the toppings were thrown onto pre-made cheese pizza and the mushrooms were canned - not fresh. The salads were better & tasted fresh, but were primarily lettuce with a sprinkling of shredded carrot, a few tomato wedges, and a lot of onions. I've lived in the New York area and what I got was NOT New York pizza as advertised.

The pizza by the slice is old, sitting around and if you want anything other than cheese they throw toppings on and luke warm it up. I had a cheese with mushrooms...the mushrooms were from a can!!! Not worth the high price: two thumbs down, way down.

After living in Raleigh for 14 years I finally have a pizza place I can call home. Growing up in the NY area, where to go to get good pizza was never an issue...you didn't even have to think about it. Here, it depends on what part of town you are in. I have found a few restaurants that offer excellent pizza scattered about town. Now, it doesn't matter where you are (but I hope for your sake that NW Raleigh is convenient to you) because Assaggio's is the only place to go for Pizza. Thin crust, incredible sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese as well as all other ingredients. It's the best. Go there today!

Assaggio's is truly one of the great moderately priced Italian eateries around. The ingredients are very fresh and all food is made to order. The chicken franchese, and veal marsala are fantastic as are the salads and bread. The desserts are to die for and the service very friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the mood for some good italian food at a very fair price.

Been here for 5 years. Everyone tells me go to this place and go to that place. Well, my quest is over! My hair stylist said to try Assigio's. You guys have done it. The best Pizza I've ever had in Raleigh. Finally, a Great Pizza! I am embarrassed to say that I ate whole thing myself and had to go back and get another one for the family.

Assaggio's is a very high quality, authentic Italian Restaurant. I personally watched an employee crush fresh tomatos for an hr to make the days sauses, (I'm not kidding) I've only had the Pizza and the Garlic Knots, which are both worth trying. The Sicilian Pizza is big enough to feed a family of 8...and the ny style thin crust may be the best pie I've ever eaten...seriously, it melted it my mouth. I could personally taste the quality, and for me this is a rarity. The garlic knots are a lunch in itself, they cost $2.50 for 6 knots...and they will satify your craving...If you prefer top quality food, patronize this locally owned restaurant

From the Pasta Assaggio to the Chicken Marsala and Shrimp Parmagiana, it's all sooooo good. My family and I eat here often and have even had a few lunches catered at the office. It's family friendly and great value for your dollar. Their pizza is scrumptious and so are their subs. The menu is quite extensive but not expensive. A great addition to the restaurants here in Raleigh.

After years of waiting, this place is the answer to my prayers. I love living in Raleigh and Assagio's Bistro just made it that much better! You can go for a full 3 course meal, or just for a slice of pizza and a soda. The restaurant and the staff are very inviting.
