The place was crowded, dirty, dirty restrooms. \r
The bar tender, a tall blond girl did not know what she was doing. \r
How can they have her as a bar tender?\r

You can't go to New Orleans and not go here!! It's just UN American... You must have a Hurricane or one of the other tourist drinks, just so you can keep the glass!! I still have glasses from our first visit there. Nice, relaxing, crowded and loud place to visit. You don't go for the peace and quiet, you go for the noise and the atmosphere. Prices are a bit high, but when on vacation, who cares!! This is a popular place to go, so don't miss out on the fun. Sit around the fire and relax in the garden while sipping on a hurricane drink, and don't forget to take some of the mix home with you.

The bar at Pat O'Brien's is a great place to stop on a hot afternoon to cool off with a huge, incredibly refreshing Hurricane, play the jukebox, and relax for a while. It's really crowded and loud at night, so we liked it better during the day. Across from the bar is a gigantic cocktail lounge with a bar and lots of tables and chairs, but it fills to overflowing at night. Two piano players are featured at night (not sure if it's just on weekends), but they don't live up to the atmosphere of either New Orleans or this great lounge. They play songs the audience can sing along to, but not very good ones. We actually heard them do Def Leppard's ""Pour Some Sugar on Me""--yikes! It would be so much better if they had jazz performers. Still, the Hurricanes were the best we tasted, and it's a fun place, so go!

Yes, it's crowded. Yes, it's touristy. Yes, there are better mixed drinks to be had elsewhere. But Pat O'Brien's is still a cool place to relax and enjoy a frosty beverage. If it's not too hot outside and you can find a table, the patio bar is the place to be. If you're a tourist, it's almost required that you visit here.

i enjoy this bar for its chill scene. it does get crowded but not sweaty like any other dance club. although it does have plenty of different rooms to hang out, i love the outdoor patio because it is large and perfect to meet people. of course, when it is raining, it is not as fun, but if you are resourceful (or go to one of the rooms), you can still enjoy a rainy day at pat o'briens. i am not much of a hurricane drinker but people seem to like those made by pat o'brien bartenders.

Great place if you want the Bourbon st experience off of Bourbon. I have had to take clients there twice in the last 6 months & beg anyone coming to the city to venture out of the quarter & experience some local joints!

If you like your drinks with a touch of citrus to it, then try the hurricane. I try to stay away because its really popular with the Bourbon tourists but if you're in a group then its fine to hang here for a while and them move on to many more holes in the wall.

I promise, it is not some kind of green mixed drink!!! My first time there, the bartender fixed me up. Gave me a double! Okay, for those who (like me) actually may not know, a mint julep is bourbon whiskey with crushed mint leaves and nothing else. It is really good, if you like straight whiskey.

Pros: atmosphere, staff, several bars

Cons: CROWDED, touristy

Yes it's a tourist trap (and I hate tourist traps) but I still love Pat O'Briens.

Mostly go there for the drinks since there are tons of better dining locations in New Orelans.

I figured the hurricanes would be watered down and overly sugary. However after sitting around for a couple of hours these things will put even the strongest on their butts.

If you like lots of drunks, loud noises, average food, but strong drinks, this is your place. And yeah, you can tell all of your friends when you get back home that you went there.

My husband and I loved the crawfish nachos! We were treated well and the food was worth the cost of finding this beautiful courtyard! We were surprised at the low prices on the menu and were excited to have found somewhere were the beers were not $5.00 and a hurricane (a GREAT hurricane) was well less than $8.50. Not overpriced, great outdoor dining and great, helpful staff. LOVED IT!

I'm a local that keeps going back to this tourist bar. Gotta love it. Great tradition, excellent bartenders, strong drinks @ a good price...
Take a cab so you wont have to worry about parking... OR driving afterwards... Check out the bar right off of Bourbon Street... they call it the Bourbon Bar... Its our oasis...

The Hurricanes were great. I ordered a salad and it was ok but expensive. My son ordered gumbo and said it was good. I think everyone should go at least once. Overall I would recommend this place just to get a ""feel"" for New Orleans.

The place is gorgeouos, as is the view. The famous Hurricane was a little overpowering for my taste, but it was still good. The best part of this place was the ambience and the service. The food was great too, but the waiter and the feel of the place was my favorite part. I recommend the wings and the coconut shrimp. Also, I went for lunch, so it was not as crowded as I heard it gets.

No one even mentioned, that if you are going for a good time, and some drinks, BESIDES a hurricane, where you can get it all over the city...how about Tropical Isle's HAND GRENADE, where you can't get it anywhere else, because it's a trademark. I just got back from NOLA, and Tropical Isle was the best place I went. Live music, great drinks, and lots of fun people.

This was the first place we went to the first time we went to New Orleans. It's a bit of a tourist trap and you generally won't see any localers here. All the same it is a blast and we returned everytime since. The music is condusive to a good time and it's the only place that I've found really good Hurricanes (b/c they're the original). There is no where to dance, and it gets a little crowded, but overall it's a good time. We never spent a lot of time inside the piano bar b/c the outside is so cool...

This was one of the first places we stopped into while visiting the French Quarter. I had one of their famous Hurricanes (delicious!) and my husband ordered a beer. My drink was flavorful and pretty strong, although their prices seem a little steep. We paid nearly 10 dollars for my mixed drink in a throw-away cup and my husband's beer served in the can. Good service and excellent entertainment offset the overpriced drinks though. We'll definitely visit again!

Pat O's has a lot of drinks to choose from...Only one I will drink...For $6 you get a huge drink and it only take a few to get you drunk. It's crowded but yet relaxed...Always a great time.

After 31 trips to New Orleans and literally hundreds of visits to Pat O'Brien's, I can say this place is as advertised. Yes, it is touristy. Yes, it is well located. But what you see is what you get. There are stronger drinks, tastier drinks, cheaper drinks in the French Quarter. Pat O'Brien's has that certain atmosphere that brings people together from various cities. The glasses make great (and cheap) souvenirs.

If you can handle the crowds, go to Patty O's...at least one visit is a must do. See if your gal can drink a drink called a Blo_ Job without any hands & without getting whipped cream all over her face. Be ready to be social & do not forget to tip the bathroom attendants!

If you like to drink, you must go to this place for some cocktails. For $4-$5 per drink, you cannot beat it. You have to have a hurricane if you go to New Orleans. If you have more than two, someone may need to help you out. I have never eaten an ounce of food here. I consider it strictly a bar and recommend you drink in the garden. It is a great place for early afternoon drinks or late evening drinks. Watch the waiters though! Ours tried to double charge us (my girlfriend paid the bill and he resubmitted it to me).

It may draw the tourists like a moth to a flaming fountain, which can be a downside at times, but there is a reason everyone goes there. The ambiance is reassuringly top-notch, and once you have that, everything else falls into place.

Right off Bourbon Street, this is a great place to meet all the other tourists. You cant visit New Orleans without ordering a Hurricane from Pat Os and singing at their piano bar but after living in New Orleans for 3 years and visiting every year for over 10 yrs to follow, I've never been back. Plenty of space and fire pit for atmosphere.

There's a reason they call it a Hurricane! With it's fruit punch taste you really don't notice the rum! But it hits you out of the blue so be aware! Pat O'Brien's has a bautiful courtyard with a large fountain that is lit at night. Great atmosphere! FYI-you can order their drink mixes, glasses, etc. on their website!

The reason Pat O's has been and always will be one of my favorite bars in my hometown is because you can have almost any kind of experience you want in just this one place. The courtyard is mandatory for hanging out with friends or a date. Feeling a bit more energetic? Head to the piano bar for rollicking singalongs. A more intimate bar area is right across for those who prefer to get cozy. I have nearly a dozen pictures from occasions I celebrated there over the years. For those who think its too expensive, order your drinks in cups rather than the specialty glasses or return your glasses for a couple of dollars back.
