My family was invited to a cultural event that was put on by That Brown Girl Catering company. We had such a good time and the food they had was delicious. They had a great representation including plantains - my mom's favorite. The presentation was great and the food better.

We brought in That Brown Girl Catering for our Thanksgiving dinners for our employees that had to work on the holiday. I was treated with such complete disrespect that I was simply shocked.
A little background about me: I attended culinary school and between my husband and myself we have worked in the restaurant industry for 15+ years. I know the ins and outs of catering and am well aware that it can be a stressful job. I would have fired anyone who spoke to a ?guest? the way Kristi, the owner, spoke to me.
I have trouble understanding that a company that supposedly prides itself on customer service treated me in such a way that I was truly appalled ? Kristi was the worst of all. She talked over me, interrupted me, and when I tried to get her to pause, she just started talking louder and with more intensity ? blaming me for her lack of willingness to do a good job. I was met with such attitude that I had to check that I was actually speaking with the owner of the catering company.
How TBGC manages to stay in business is beyond me if this is how they treat their customers. If this is how she handles her stress with customers, she is in the wrong business, and doomed to fail.

I was furious when I heard from our graveyard supervisor that we had received barely warm, DRY, turkey loaf for dinner. Turkey loaf? Turkey LOAF?! Our menu clearly stated ? ?Rosemary Turkey Breast? ? in no way, shape, or form is a turkey LOAF acceptable. That would be like ordering the pork tenderloin and getting a hotdog. TBGC NEVER notified us that they may need to make substitutions; that we may receive something different from our agreed upon menu. And the turkey loaf was as dry as cardboard.
The lack of professionalism, poor attention to detail, barely edible ?food?, and lack of respect to customers will ultimately be the epic fail of this company. That Brown Girl Catering is the epitome of rude, and I will NEVER be using their services again.

Pros: NONE

Cons: Food barely warm, substitutions made without our approval, RUDE PEOPLE

I've used That Brown Girl catering for two buffet dinner events in my home for approx. 25-40 guests. We had the chicken skewers, pasta salad, sauted shrimp, marinated vegetables and crackers & dips. Some of the food is a bit spicy (dips) and certainly not low-fat (vegetables were liberally oiled). I would definitely recommend the chicken skewers as they were moist and well seasoned both times. I'd also recommend the pasta salads with spinach, carmelized onions and parmesan and mushrooms. I plan to use this company again, it is great food for a chilly evening! The employees have been friendly and attentive to guests.
If you do use them, make sure to confirm directions to your house when you place the order.
