Uhm how does one drown in a 4 foot deep pool? Did he not know how to STAND UP? CPR AED Cert is essential to work at LA Fitness, they are mandatory.

Worst Customer Service EVER!!....They rip people off when they have you sign up for personal training...They are trained not to tell their clients that you will be continued to be charge month after month even if you only sign up for a certain number of months and they will not refund your money and they will not let you use up the remaining training sessions that you already paid for. They are out to rip people off!!

Walked in LA Fitness in October 2009, but since the facility at Greenway Plaza (Houston) just opened, they had poor class schedule. I was mostly interested in classes and the sales guy told me that I can wait for one month until they fill the schedule, but I must enroll "today" to get a good price - usual sales trick. He pointed in the contract that my billing cycle starts in November and confidently said that my membership actually starts in November too, but I have to pay for the first and last month "right now". Well, I thought it was a good deal, paid and was waiting to start going to classes in November.
I was surprised when they charged my credit card again in November since I thought that I already paid for my first month which was agreed as November. Tried to resolve the issue with LA Fitness management and dispute transaction. But unpleasant surprise came from the facility manager who told me that November date in contract is not my membership start date but recurring payments start date. I was trying to explain that that is not what we agreed on with his sales person (my husband was there when we signed the contract and he confirmed). I was also trying to explain that it was not my misinterpretation but exactly what his employee told me and they should honor their word and value customers interest. I suggested that they resolve the issue with the sales person without double charging me.
But manager did not listen, told me that "nothing can be done" and as a business they "only believe in what is written on paper, no matter what we agreed on with the sales person" and forced me to cancel disputed transaction. The most unpleasant was his bullish manner and after he finally charged me he asked if I am happy with LA Fitness services.
After such disrespectful treatment I decided to cancel membership. This is such a pain and another tricky scheme to squeeze as much money as possible from customers. You can't just cancel it online like with most other businesses. You have to print out a cancellation form and mail it to CA. But even that is not easy since PDF download for cancellation form from their web-site never works! I called them to ask for help and they told me that "at the moment computer system is down" and again "nothing can be done". Next day the same story. When I stopped by at their facility in person and finally got this cancellation form in early December, they told me that I will NOT be charged anymore if I mail it soon enough. Knowing how unreliable they are, I sent my cancellation form promptly with delivery confirmation priority mail. It was delivered on December 18, but in early January they charged my membership fee again!!!
When I called they told me that according to their records my account is still active and they did not receive cancellation form! What a lie! And, as usual, "the person who you could talk to you on this issue is not here at the moment" and I must come to their facility with delivery confirmation receipt.
My whole experience with LA Fitness at Greenway Plaza was very disappointing and annoying. They don't care about customer satisfaction at all, don't honor their own employee??s words, practice tricky money-making schemes as if it was some back street market, not civilized business.
If anyone knows regulatory authority where I could complain please advise.

Just my 2 cents....I don't think there's gym out there that is no pressure sales, so don't base your decision on that. They always say you have to sign up the day you walk in. They don't want you to use their offer to get a better offer at anther gym. For the buck I find LA Fitness to be one of the best deals around. They are all new, nice, include pool, basketball court, raquetball, lots of different excrise class, and a good variety of machines and weight equipment. All for around 30 bucks, but that why they have unprepared staff. My wife works at an LA Fitness and they go through employees like Ron Jeremy goes through condoms.

Most employee's (like 95%) have no benefits (no health insurance, no vacation, no retirement, no holiday pay, etc). My wife has worked there for about 3 years and has had 1 cpr class and she doesn't remeber how to do it. All gym's should be giving their employees CPR classes at least every 6 months. Oops, that would cost them money.

Moved to, Houston, decided to shop around for a gym. Loved the clean and convenient location of the new LA fitness gym right off hwy 96 in League city. Great amenities but, unfortunately, the staff don't know how to do business. One of the guys showed me around, sat me down and explained the plans, and before long, the pressure was on. He explained there was a special promotion for first time walk-in only, that I had to join then and there to qualify. Tried to explain I could not put any $ down until the following week after I was settle in. He called in his 'supervisor', who, despite my requests to join the following week, told me, "we will not offer you this deal next week, so let me save you on time and gas, no need to return". I was shocked and disappointed by LA fitness club staff. Save yourself and go elsewhere, you'll be happier and healthier.

I wish there was a way I could score this fitness club with less than one star. On August 22, 2008 a wonderful friend of mine passed away after drowning in the swimming pool at LA Fitness. He was an athletic and very healthy 26 year old, only 26 years old. My friend may have been saved had the employees at LA Fitness been properly trained to be working at a fitness club. When he was found at the bottom of their pool by a few members of the staff nobody knew how to properly administer CPR. What kind of health facility has employees who do not know the proper way to perfrom CPR??? Not only that, the facility was equipped with a defiberlator that nobody knew how to operate. Why would you have such equipment if none of your employees knew how to use it?? It is completely sickening to me that quite possibly because of the neglect of this facility and the staff at this facilty my friends life was cut way to short. According to the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on my friend, he was found to be in perfect health. No heart condition, no unusual brain condition, no drugs in his system, nothing. He simply drowned. Had the employees acted as though you would expect them to considering they work at a fitness facility, Cody could very well be here today to continue life with his mom and little brother.
