I was in Atlanta on vacation from Chicago. I was told that Jermaine Dupri had a restaurant in Atlanta, so i decided to check it out. But first i read the reviews before i went. Even though the reviews were pretty negative, I wanted to check it out myself. I called first to make sure they were open and was told they were open, but didn't have any shrimp or crab cakes nor salmon. I'm like O'kaaaay? Even though i love seafood, i'm still going to this restaurant! When we arrived, there was a party of about 50 loud, rude teenagers walking all over the place! They finally left, and now it's one hour later. I think i seen one, possibly 2 waitresses who look tired, no enthusiasm. They finally took our order and explained that they were out of several dishes. I finally ordered the tilapia fish and my daughter ordered the shrimp po boy meal. She wanted grapefruit juice, but had to settle for pineapple juice. My brother wasn't too happy with the fried chicken and waffle, but the grilled chicken with waffle was better . After the shrimp po boy meal came, we were told they didn't have any tartar sauce. Out of tartar sauce! They finally gave her some thousand island dressing which was better than nothing! We were the only customers in the whole place. However, i must say, they have an excellent chef and the food looks very decorative and appetizing. You all just need to hire more help and make sure you go to the grocery store before you open! The waitresses could smile a little and stop looking so mean! You make us feel like you don't want us to come back. However, i still like the restaurant and would recommend it. Hopefully, the service will get better. P.S. Brighten up the place Jermaine, you're a Star and we want to be able to feel proud to say we ate at Cafe Dupri!

Pros: good choices on the menu

Cons: slow service

Dupri's is a cool atmosphere with an ambiance that is smoother than Waffle House. The price is about twice as much as WAHO, but its worth it to splurge every once in a while... I guess. Its worth checking out...

Ok, a couple of friends and I went to Cafe Dupri on 7/14/08 to celebrate a friends birthday. We were a little taken aback in reference to the space. Oh and there were other patrons that were loud and obnoxious and acted as though they had not been out since the year of the flood. Not to mention that the air conditioning system kept spewing cold water down my back. Ok we can get pass that. Let me start with the waitress and her nonchalant attitude, which evidently could be considered ?lazy service?. We ordered drinks, which included drinks with no ice. The operative word here is NO ICE. Well when my friend received her grapefruit juice it was FULL OF ICE. She explained to the waitress that she ordered her drink without ice and asked for another. The waitress had the audacity to state ?we do not have anymore grapefruit juice?. Can you say cover up? Anyway we then placed our main course. I will have the salmon! We don?t have any more salmon. Did this place run out of food? Now everyone should know that is a no-no. Is this the norm? That is unacceptable! Here is the kicker we ordered wine to accompany our food and to our dismay there were gnats in the wine glass. Can we say disgusting in a germ-a-phobic society you serve wine-ala-gnats!! The manager came and apologized for our inconvenience and that was it he was on his way. Not to be nit picking they had the nerve to over charge for the Pasta Dupri. Now I know that JD has been to top-notch 5 star restaurants so what is he running a dive? Sad to say that his establishment does not fit the bill and even more disturbing I will not be returning. I cannot patronize a place where the customer is not top priority. . But here are some suggestions: A) do not place 18% gratuity on a bill when your staff is less than good!! B) DO NOT RUN OUT OF FOOD, Restaurant 101 C) Make your staff more accommodating so that less than satisfactory reviews do not affect you publicly.

I went to Cafe Dupri after a night out on the town in Atlanta May 2008. I must say I felt pretty good about the restaurant when I pulled up. But once I entered, my feelings quickly changed. First off the hostess was quite rude when she informed us that it would at least be a 25 minute wait. I looked around and there was no one waiting to be seated and I saw an empty, but dirty table. She then offered to let us sit at the bar with no wait and assured us that it would be the fastest solution. We say at the bar for 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken and another 15 to receive them. It then took 10 minutes to take our order and an eternity to receive it. I ordered the ?signature? French toast which was horrible. It was hard and tasteless. I even heard neighboring patrons complaining about their orders as well. I would not recommend this restaurant to ANYONE!!!

Cons: Everything Else

No joke, the food is the bomb! BUT, every time I've gone, I have had a problem with the service. Today I go to pick up a carry out and they ran out of plastic forks and knives. I got over charged for something on the menu and the manager wouldn't even make the change on my ticket, saying, "I can't change the ticket because I don't know how I would explain it"! Also, the website says that they open at 10am. I called at 10:05 to place an order and the manager told me to call back in an hour because they don't open til 11am. He went on to say that the website was wrong. Uh, ya think? Love ya JD, but LOW CLASS bra!

I visited Cafe Dupri in June 2006 while on vacation with friends. I would give it NO STARS if I could. The only thing they had going for themselves is the sweet tea. The food was not good at all and the service was even worse. I am very suprised that this place is even still open. We spent over an hour waiting for our food for it to be lacklaster at best. Save your money and time and dine elsewhere!

I have been to CD over 9 times now , I havnt had a bad experience there yet. I love the food, the service is great! Whenever friends or family visit me this is the first place I take them to eat. The price is no more than a IHOP would be(very affordable). I dont eat any pork so the fact that they dont serve any pork or pork products was a bonus(turkey sausage, turkey bacon). The first time I went to Cafe Dupri ,I needed directions so i called them, they were very helpful with guiding me directly to the location. When I pulled up I thought it was small but thats why it's called a "cafe". As my wife and I got out of the car we saw Bow Wow coming out of the cafe,I didnt know my wife was a fan until I saw her running behind his car with her camera phone trying to take pictures!

I have yet to actually step foot inside of Cafe Dupri.. I live in Buckhead approx. 1 mile north of the cafe and the first time I drove past it on my way home from work.. I said what is that huge billboard above this congested corner... with an arrow pointing down to this little brick something in the middle of beautiful Buckhead... and I said no no.. what in the world.. I have to say I said what a disappointment and not what I expected from JD.. but what should I expect I don't know him anymore than you know me(but still) My friend is here from Detroit and is eager to try it... I told her how I felt and she was still like "come on lets go for lunch.." I then decided to check out the reviews and to my surprise.. everything that I thought I would experience inside is what the people here have mentioned.. I will be dining there this afternoon anyway to please my friend .. going in with an open mind but am sure I will end up saying to her.. see, sometimes it is okay to judge a book by its cover.

Healthy eats and great service. Looking out for our waist lines and hearts, all of the items sold here are geared towards making better choices and eating to live not living to eat. The food tastes great and the service was okay.

I was in ATL for MLK weekend and my friends and I were trying to find a great place to eat. We stopped by another restaurant on the same street called the Jazz Club or something. We immediatly realized that that was too upscale for what were looking for. The hostess recommended Cafe Dupri to us. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first about going to a "celebrity restaurant" (especially since Puffy's restaurant Justin's is nasty)
We made a U-turn and went there. The atmosphere was really "home-y." It wasn't as big as I assumed it would be, but that's part of it's charm. Our waitress was really nice and knowledgeable about the menu. While you are waiting on your food they provide complimentary salsa and chips. Don't roll your eyes because it was terrific! The salsa appeared to be homemade and the chips were actually fried plantaines. We ate the appetizer so quickly that our server had to bring out more. I ordered the Chicken Napolean and two of my friends ordered the Pasta Dupri. I cleaned my plate and was trying to scoop the gravy up with some of the chips. The pasta was so good that the two friends went back again the next night for the same thing. I also tried the strawberry shortcake which was delicious. Like the logo outside the restaurant says, the food here was "So So Good." (yeah, that was cheesy but the food was really that terrific. Kudos to Jermaine Dupri!)

I went to Atlanta for MLK Day! Some hommies and I decided that we wanted to stop by "Cafe Dupri" for a little "Feedback" if you know what I mean. The food was about average (5), the atmosphere was "Rob's Place on "What's Happening" Style (which is a good hip-hop thing), however the strawberry shortcake dessert (one of Janet's favorite) was off the chain! SO- SO - Def! a calaboration!

Well it looks like some work was done to the staff since those bad reviews!
I visited Atlanta 3 weeks ago, and some friends took me to Cafe Dupri. We were very skeptical because the outside looked very non-descript. I thought it would be some hole in the wall. Well we walked in, and although it was small, it has a nice feel. My friend thought the decor could use some updating as the booths were green, but they had sky lighting and we could tell the ambiance might be better at night. The hostess was VERY nice and showed us to our seats right away. I ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer and my friend ordered a side salad. TALK ABOUT FRESH! Everything was delicious, and we were shocked..lol..and pleased! Now I never order fish, but I decided to get the tilapia, and thank god I did. It was also very fresh and meaty. The butter seasoning was great and so were the steamed veggies. It was so good, we soon forgot about the decor! We left very happy and promised that next time I'm in town we would be back! Good job JD!!

I've been reading some of the reviews about Cafe Dupri and I'm suprised at homw many people gave it a bad review. I recent;y went there during Morehouse Homecoming 2007 with a bunch of my friends and we all loved it. I ordered the Cafe Dupri and it was great. I'm a alfredo pasta lover so I critique all the time. We all ordered the loster bisque which was wonderful, and them damn crab cakes were good. Maybe we went on a good day because none of us had any complaints. We all went back to MD telling everybody how good the food was. Not to mention our waiter was on point. Everytime I took my last sip of half & half he was there with a refill, it was like he knew I was done before I even said anything. I will agree with the ones who said it was cold. Overall I can't wait to go back.

Cons: A lil more heat.. Oh yeah Parking.. Very small parking lot due to location

First time reviewing a restaurant, but felt compelled after my visit to Cafe Dupri.

Ambience - lightbulbs out, leaky faucet and no toilet paper is ladies room, Dollar Store hand soap on counter, trash can overflowing, dirty table not wiped down before being seated, food on floor, decor basically ugly and uninspired. ONE ladies room dirty.

Food - below average, blackened shrimp not blackened and tails were left on, grits runny and flavorless, breakfast platter looks like it was from the Aunt Gemima frozen breakfast at the grocery store, kids fish nuggets unseasoned and bland, $4 side order of sauteed spinach gone in 3 bites. Asked for lemons for my tea and was brought chunks of lemon so small that I could barely squeeze them. The waffle machine was broken so my guest had to change her child's order.

Portion size - very small (don't come hungry because you will leave hungry).

Service - we did have a great server, he was very attentive and friendly.

Prices - reasonable, but you get what you pay for. I would have rather gone down the street to The Buckhead Diner, paid a little more, but at least would have left happy, satisfied and with a large doggy bag. Even Waffle House would have been more satisfying.

I find it hard to believe that Jermaine Dupri would knowingly allow this type of service to be attached to his name. Perhaps he leaves the day to day management to his GM, etc, but he should really overhaul this place from top to bottom. I have never been more disappointed. A waste of time and money and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I most definitely will never go back. If I could leave a zero star rating, I would.

Well a while ago I had a small reunion with two of my best friends at Cafe Dupri and we had a wonderful time. The food was pretty good and not too outrageous and we loved the atmosphere. I have read some of these reviews and honestly it did make me think twice but then again you have to judge a place off of your gut and I feel for what those other peolple went through but I have to beg to differ when it comes to my opion. So you can go off of what I said or what others said but everyday will bring something different so you have to decide on your own and not on what someone elses experience may have been but do you want to take that chance you may just enjoy your self if you do.

My boyfriend and I visited Atlanta recently and dined at Cafe Dupri on Labor Day. We were promptly seated, the service was good and I was impressed with the selection of available items on the menu. I had the Dupri pasta with chicken while my boyfriend had the crab crusted tilapia. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and were surprised to find that the prices were not outlandish. My boyfriend is especially hard to please when it comes to food...he's a bit of a connoisseur so anytime he's satisfied, it's a big deald! Being a female who is health conscientious, I was pleased at the variety of healthy choices on the menu. I would definitely visit Cafe Dupri again!

After a night at the club, we went to Cafe Dupri...This place is terrible...it has NO atmosphere AND its cold ...THEN some guy comes over and harrasses us for 3 dollars repeatedly...finally he leaves but not before saying "I would have paid for your meals if you had given me 3 dollars"...WHAT??! When we told our waiter about him he just shrugged his shoulders and said "That's one of the owners friends and he just acts wild sometimes." Onto the food...I just have 4 words WALMART FROZEN FOOD SECTION. It consisted of reheated frozen waffles and Tyson's breaded chicken breast and jennie-o turkey sausage. I could go on and on, but I'll just stop with don't waste your money to even try it

Pros: None

Cons: Restaurant temperature, food, service, atmosphere

I took my mother to this restaurant on Saturday evening after seeing a wonderful play at the Fox. I thought I would take my mom somewhere different since we rarely come downtown or Buckhead. I had been to Dupris once before with my husband and I thought the food was decent. Going to the restaurant was the biggest mistake I ever made. First there was no hostess there to greet us and we had to wait for someone to come from the back to seat us. Next, it took us ten minutes before they took our drink order and the hostess was the one who came and asked us what we wanted. It took her another ten minutes to bring our drinks and then she tells us she is going to be our waitress, but she needs to go to her car and get her book to write down our orders. I should have realized that this was a sign and left after she said that. I tried to be patient. She came back and took our order, I ordered an appetizer and our meal . Thirty minutes later the appetizer still had not come out. I spoke to the manager and the waitress and their answer was it has been a crazy day. 40 minutes later the appetizer came and I asked for the bill because we had been there a total of one hour and and we still did not have our food. I asked for the bill the girl went to the manager and a few minutes later they brought our food out. The manager assured us that we would get good service from that point forward and he would take care of us. He walked past us three times and never said another word to us. My food was not good, I ordered the blackened shrimp and grits, the shrimp was not blackened it was just grilled and then the waitress tried to act like maybe I did not know what blackened was. When I received my bill they only took one of the meals off my bill. I paid my bill and left without leaving a tip. I felt everyone had a did not care attitude. I would not recommend this resturant to anyone. JD needs to check his staff they are very unprofessional.

Pros: Ladies bathroom was clean

Cons: Service bad

It's just a shame that someone so-so top notch with everything he's involved with can attach his name to a restaurant that's so- so bottom-barrel. My experience with my friends wasn't anything I had expected from a cafe named Dupri. From the ambiance, to the service, to no child menus printed, to no paper towels in the ONE female restroom (I mean come on), the list just goes on . For someone who frequents many restaurants, I would rather eat at the Waffle House and eat their special that comes with everything (ie. salad, rolls, etc.) than eat the bland portions that are served at Cafe Dupri's. Heck, the set-up and atmosphere are equivalent. As a matter of fact, Mr. Dupri if you are reading this, we would like a refund.

This was my experience at Cafe Dupri and excerpts of my letter of complaint. Would you dine at this type of restuarant?

Good evening,

My name is XXXXXX, I patronized Cafe Dupri on July 1, 2007 between the hours of 8:30pm to 10:00p.m. or so. There was a party of about 6 or 7 people, that used all kinds of curse words very loudly. They said the n-word, the b-word, the f- word, the m.f.-word, all while my fiance and i waited for our food. I felt like i was out on the corner in the hood somewhere. I won't here bad language like that in waffle house down the street from my house.I asked the waitress to tell the manager they were being offensive. The manager graciously walked over and said something to them to get them to stop the cursing. I later spoke with the manager and told him about my dining experience. I live in Decatur, Ga and i just wanted some good food and atmosphere. So i didn't mind driving to Buckhead to get it. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay within my own neighborhood for the quality i was anticipating. So, I decided that I wanted some soul food with a nice twist. I thought of the food presentation of a chef I saw on t.v from Cafe Dupri and thought...."Let's go to Cafe Dupri!" I had never been there before. Boy, was i thouroughly disappointed, so much so that i am sending you this email. I told the manager that even though the restuarant is owned by someone in the hip hop industry, the restuarant has still got to keep a standard. I told the manager the restuarant won't be in existence long if people are allowed to carry on any kind of way. Management should not let bad behavior from other patrons ruin someone's business that they work hard for and run the good patron's away. Cafe Dupri left me with the impression of being a "Hood Joint".

Since name recognition is good, I went here off the strength of JD's name, just so I could say I ate at his restaurant before. Location wise, it is in Buckhead which is good, but the size of the restaurant is tiny. Parkin spaces are small and reserved for JD and some other guy. Other than the the restaurant as a whole, the food is decent. No Problem with the food, but I think they tried to squeeze too much into a small place.

Pros: Food is aight!

Cons: Small Restaurant, all Parking in front is reserved for JD and some other cat

I was so disappointed just knew this was going to be a great experience, especially after seeing G. Garvin's show filmed from there. The food was just average. The location is good, but it doesn't stand out on just a main artery in the Atl. The outside decor, come on now. So, so dissapointed.

Cons: The food was rather bland and nothing special.

negro please stick to music....................
bad location, bad food, bad service, bad decor, everything about this place is just bad. I work in the restaurant business and this place needs to close down and JD needs to do the damn thing over.

I visited Cafe Dupri 3 weeks ago with 8 of my friends for the first time. We ate there before going to see Dreamgirls. The ambience was excellent, our server was knowledgeable, and the food was excellent. We started off with the turkey chili and surrounded our table with an array of menu items: some breakfast and some lunch. Before writing my review I looked at some of the previous reviews, and I was amazed how differently my visit turned out. I must say hats off to the restaurant for excellent service.

I decided to go to Cafe Dupri for brunch today because I had seen their chef prepare the lobster crepes on an Atlanta morning show last week. 15-20 minutes after placing my order of the lobster crepes, the waitress informs me that the chef had 86ed the lobster crepes for whatever reason. Of course I'm disappointed when I have to change my order. So, I choose the pancakes and sausage and 15-20 minutes after placing that order, the waitress informs me that they no longer have any sausage.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I feel like I fell for the ol' bait and switch. I came for the lobster crepes, couldn't get it and had to settle for a mediocre breakfast. I will not go back.

The service is bad. The bartenders are bad. The menu is OK, but the food is not consistant. Cafe Dupri is a waste of your time. There are way too many good places to eat in Atlanta.

I have eaten at Cafe Dupri three times and each time has been an experience.
My second time going my infant was throwing up everywhere and the executive chef placed us in VIP. He was extremely thoughtful and attentive. I had an omlet that came out extremely fast and was the best omlet I have ever had. My friend had the crawfish and fried green tomatoes and she could not have been any more pleased.
The third time was this past Sunday for brunch and we received even better treatment! They just released their new menu and were serving the best mimosas.
The food was outstanding, the service impeccable and the decor was so beautiful. We loved it and can not WAIT to eat there again.
YOU MUST VISIT!

I had heard alot of bad things about Cafe Dupri so I decided to see what could be so wrong. I was impressed with the VIP room I purchased for $150 that included direct tv and playstation. The server was very knowledgable and entertaining. I had the stuffed mushrooms and the salmon mornay. All of which i thoroughly enjoyed. The manager and executive chef visited us. The only thing it was hard to find and the valet ran over three cones while parking my rented Expedition. I couldnt beleive everyone I talked to didnt like it.It was actually SO SO GOOD.

My first - but not last visit - the food wasn't what I would have expected and it was too expensive for what it was - we experienced excellent service, very nice waitress. Manager was attentive. Love the decor. Will try again because we had fun, just wish the wait for the food was shorter.

I tried Cafe Dupri last night for my birthday, and it was the worst. First of all, there weren't that many people in there to warrant the LACK of prompt service that we received. I ordered the seafood gumbo as my appetizer. It tasted like they opened a can of Campbell's soup and tried to add some spices to it. Also, I thought it was supposed to be "seafood" gumbo. Where was the seafood? It was terrible. For my entree I ordered the shrimp skewer which was 5 large shrimp wrapped in turkey bacon and cheese. First of all, it took them 40 minutes to bring my food. Once I finally got it, it was lukewarm and it tasted like boloney (literally, Oscar Mayer)! The "JD strawberry shortcake" was terrible and the sweet tea was horrible. I wouldn't go back even if the food was free.

I was looking forward to liking this new spot, but unfortunately Cafe Dupri leaves a lot to be desired. The place itself is in a very small nondescript spot, I passed by it three times and didn't realize that was the place. The inside of the restaurant is no better. It's about the size of a large coffee shop to tell you the truth. The menu was varied, but depending on what you ordered the portions were small. I ordered a turkey burger, which was rather tasty, but some of my friends who ordered the breakfast items were less than satisfied. For the prices they charged, we expected a lot better. The waitresses were inexperienced and had attitudes to boot, but the manager was pretty helpful I have to say. Well at least we can say we went there because we will not be going back.

We arrived very late, approx 2:30am. The ladies ordered oatmeal and fruit, I ordered a chicken Caesar Salad. An HOUR AND A HALF LATER STILL NO FOOD!!!! We were totally offended that folks who arrived long after we did (seated in the VIP section of course) recieved steady flows of steak and eggs, salads, and drinks while the cup of coffe I asked for took over 45 minutes to arrive!!! My guess is that I will never recommend Dupri to anyone ever again!!!

I wanted to take an out-of-town friend to this new restaurant, we had high expectations because of the owner. We came on a Sunday night about 8 pm, nowhere near closing, and the restaurant was out of many (more than 6) items on the menu. Service was terrible, something from ceiling leaked on table all night. My husband ordered shrimp skewers, he asked how many skewers came with the meal. Waitress told us 2, when it came out - only 1. We asked her about it and she said, "Oh yeah well the chef just changed it on me. Sorry." We told management of our evening so far, we did not get the response deserved, he didn't seem to care. To end the night, valet parking couldn't get the car started! Terrible service, food not worth the price!
