This woman is dangerous, do not use her! She ignored reports of drunkenness and brutal fighting in my ex spouses household. She liked his wife and went so far as to accept letters from her that told her exactly what to say against me in court. She took a medical leave of absence at her bosses urging after our case because I proved in court what she was doing. She showed up to the courtroom and sat with my ex and his family and glared at me as I proved with tape recordings what my ex was capable of. She should not be practicing and I will do all I can to get her license suspended now that I know she is back at this horrible abuse. She almost got my 5 and 7 year put in a household with two very violent alcoholics because she liked the act the wife was putting on. Well Nancy I hope you read this because just a few short years later those two got divorced due to their alcoholic brawls but not before my kids were put in the middle of some very dangerous situations, like being made to ride in the car with drunk drivers many times, where in a car accident with their father which he hid from me as long as possible so I didn't call the police, then he was finally caught driving drunk with them and put in jail. I obviously got visitation taken away and they are safe and grown wonderful people now. No thanks to you! You are an evil person in my book and almost got my kids killed.

Nancy was instrumental in helping my (then) 9 year old son cope with the challenges of an ugly parenting time dispute.

5 years later, my son is well adjusted, happy, confident...and still gives Nancy hugs...in the middle of his High School.

Nancy knows the laws, the courts and most importantly, she understands kids.

Hiring Nancy Ross Bakker to do the evaluation of our custody case is the biggest -- and one of the most expensive mistakes -- we have ever made. Ms. Bakker's report was so off base that it served no purpose but to throw our case into a costly trial. Thankfully, we had a great judge who fixed the mess Ms. Bakker created. Her evaluation was so one-sided and biased toward my husband's ex-wife that the judge threw it out of court in its entirety. He documented in his ruling that Ms. Bakker had lost all impartiality during the course of the evaluation. We later learned Ms. Bakker has a turbulent personal past with divorce. She was clearly unable to separate her personal experiences from our unrelated case. She appeared to have an agenda from the start and only considered parts of interviews that seemed to support her flawed assumptions, while ignoring everything else. The expert we had to hire for trial to review her evaluation said it was one of the poorest reports she'd ever seen. Ms. Bakker ended up costing us a lot of money while inflicting unneccessary emotional pain. She is so atrocious that I'm stunned she's even still practicing. I would strongly advise against working with her. You'd regret it.

Just like me you are doing a research whether to hire Nancy Ross Bakker or not. My advice to you is-DO NOT DO IT!
*She was hired by my ex husband in June 2009. The evaluation was supposed to be completed by the end of August giving me some time to get ready for the hearing. She completed the evaluation in October 2009, one week before the scheduled hearing date. We had to cancel the hearing as there was not enough time get ready.
*She was very unorganized, finished her evaluation 2 months after the due date
*There was a lot of lying on my ex-husband??s part, which Nancy never verified and couldn??t understand that the statement made were not faithful
*She was culturally incompetent to perform the evaluation
*My ex husband doesn't speak English. Nancy used his current girlfriend as an interpreter. I didn't feel comfortable with it and brought up the issue many times. Nancy responded that it seems to her that the girlfriend is not biased and seems to be interpreting everything as father of the child says. While when I gave her my mom as a reference and my mom doesn't speak English either, Nancy asked if someone, but me could interpret for my mom. This is very wrong! I ended up hiring an interpreter while she used his girlfriend throughout the study.
*She called my references a few days before the final evaluation came out only because I insisted. At the first interview she told me that the best references would be people who are involved in child's life, such as teacher, childcare provider etc. Since it was summer, I could not get in touch with my child's teacher, but as evaluation took forever, in September I provided teacher as my reference. Nancy never called the teacher and explained it by saying that teachers are not always the best references.
*There was a history of domestic violence in our family with restraining orders for several years. Currently my ex lives with his girlfriend and my child told me several times that his dad is not very nice to his current girlfriend. My concern was that my child would be exposed to the domestic violence once again. I expressed that concern to Nancy. She asked his girlfriend whether she is being abused in front of my ex husband and of course the current girlfriend denied it (I hope she is not abused), but a professional evaluator should not be asking those questions in the presence of the potential abuser. She referred to it in her evaluation by saying: if the abuse happens, it MUST stop immediately. Hello, abuse doesn't happen just because someone said that it MUST stop.
*My ex doesn't pay child support. I told that to the evaluator which she ignored
*My ex is not involved in child's life at all. He doesn't even know what grade the child is in and what school he goes to.
* Although the evaluation was professionally written, there were many problems with the process
DON??T HIRE her. She will make the evaluation process very painful for you!

Nancy Ross Bakker is a terrible evaluator, DO NOT USE HER. I had similar experiences as the other reviews. She was unprofessional, rude, could not keep her appointments. She had to be forced to produce her report at the last minute. Her report had several factual errors that would never have been made if she had evaluated in whole. I would never recommend her.

**UPDATE** MY STORY IS ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. WE CAN FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT AND HOPEFULLY THE BOARD THAT HOLDS HER LICENSE WILL STOP HER FROM HURTING OTHERS. I AGREE THAT SHE SHOULDNT HAVE A LICENSE. TO FILE A COMPLAINT GO TO www.oregon.gov/BLSW/forms.shtml Click on Consumer Protection Forms, then click on Consumer Complaint packet.

nancy ross bakker is a very unprofessional and completely biased evaluator. DO NOT USE HER!! We were warned by others in her field that she was terrible and to try and find someone else. She forgot appointments, showed up with her clothes on inside and out and her bias towards the mother was incredible. her report was full of errors and did not deal with the issue at hand. she ruined our family. be careful with her.

First of all, if you are trying to decide whether or not to hire Nancy Ross Bakker for an evaluation, DON'T! Like the previous reviewer, our experience was similarly negative.

DISORGANIZED - The client should never have to remind the Evaluator of appointment times; nor should the Evaluator set such a busy schedule that appointment times are mixed up or need to be rescheduled more than once. Both of these things occurred during our evaluation. It seemed as if things were left until the very last minute. She was preparing her report just days before we were scheduled to go to court.

BIASED TOWARD MOTHER - Up until the evaluation I (the father) had been the primary parent with physical custody of the children and mother lived more than 1200 miles away. Nancy Ross Bakker repeatedly emphasized what a great mother my ex-wife was and then casually and quickly brushed past my existence with an attitude of 'well, dad isn't bad'. Lies that mother told were chalked up as "misunderstandings" even though emails directly from mom said otherwise. But when it came to me, it wasn't a misunderstanding but rather that I had remembered it wrong or incorrectly. Nancy asked for 5 collateral references- Mother gave more than 5 (only a couple of which actually knew me) and Nancy spoke with all of them; I gave 5 as requested (all of whom knew both mother and me) and Nancy only spoke with some of them. Still don't know why that was.

UNTRUTHFUL - Nancy made false statements in her report wherein she cites remarks supposedly made by me that I never said at all. I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and excuse most of them as misunderstandings, but one in particular is an outright lie. My attorney checked with her to make sure it wasn't a simple misunderstanding or mistake. She says that I told her I had concerns about mar*juana (had to use an * because this site doesn't like this word) use. First, I didn't have concerns of mar*juana use so why would I pretend to; second, I like the person that I supposedly was accusing and think him to be of the most upstanding character, so why would I slander him? I never made any statements remotely close to what she claimed. I have no idea why she wouldn't check her notes more carefully.

The oddest thing of all that was the final recommendations were in my favor! How does an evaluator praise the mother, discredit the father and then recommend sole custody to that father? It was very obvious that she sympathized with the predicament the mother had placed herself in and yet knew she couldn't find in her favor. So she recommended as close to joint custody as she could to give mom a do-over. Very poor evaluation!

Our experience with Nancy Ross-Bakker was very poor. We hired her (at the advice of our lawyer) for a custody evaluation and expected to have a thorough UNBIASED result. What we ended up with was a women who could not remember her appointments and had to call us to ask us if she'd scheduled something. She explained away abusive behavior as cultural. Having emotional instability is NOT cultural! Later at the trial we came to find out (at her own forthcoming) that she experienced a similar situation with her divorce and custody. This explained a lot of her bias and sympathy toward the mother. Fortunately, at the trial the mother being as unstable as she is presented this to the judge and this worked in our favor... no thanks to Nancy and her thorough evaluation! We would not recommend this woman because she can not look out for the child's best interest due to her personal biases. She is unorganized and unprofessional.
