This is a must-see spot for tourists and locals alike. This beautiful rose garden is located in Washington Park in the west hills overlooking the city. As you stroll the garden and take in the roses, it seems that each rose you see and smell outshines the one right before it. I took relatives here in June and it is such a great place to show off and take photos. There are a couple of fountains, paths, archways and more. There is a very nice (although small) gift shop. Make sure you put this on your list of must-sees.

PROS:
CONS: might be a little difficult for handicapped or elderly to negotiate

The Rose Test Garden is located in Washington Park, and is worth visiting if you're at one of the other attractions here. It's free, but there are no facilities here (unless you count water fountains). There is a huge collection of roses here, and a good portion of them are new varieties, which are undergoing testing & quality assurance. In full bloom this is a beautiful location, and at weekends you will be dodging dozens of wedding parties who descend on the gardens for the photo opportunities. The only downside to the gardens is the limited window you have in the calendar year to see the roses in their full glory. Outwith this window you will see them dryed-out & withered, or even not at all.

PROS: Vast assortment of roses. Great photo ops.
CONS: Only a small window to see roses at their prime.

If there is a better place to view roses on the planet, I havent seen it. The International Rose Test Garden has hundreds varieties of roses to see, and smell. They don't do much selling of the roses, as their purpose is to test them for hardiness, disease resistance, and such, but this is a beautiful place to casually stroll and take in the sights. Best of all, it is free!

PROS: Beautiful layout and free of charge.
CONS: Parking can sometimes be hard to find.

Do you love roses? Than The International Rose Test garden is for you. Plan on spending a good part of the day to tour over 5 acres of spectacular rose bushes. Approximately 8,000 every color imaginable. I love the Florinda Roses. I love to go every year and see the new test roses. And the admission could not be better: FREE

Featuring roses of every stripe and color, a fitting symbol for Portland, the Rose City, you probably can't do better than visiting this Washington Park location, which contains around 8,000 rose bushes on 5 acres of land. Admissions is free. Obviously, take care what time of year you visit, but with Portland's endless (warm) spring and (roasting) summer seasons, it's a fat target.
