I brought my daughter for classes starting in fourth grade. She learned new topics, and was always happy when she saw it later at school because it was already old stuff to her. The writing class was the best for her, every week she had corrections and comments, more than school. She took a few 1-on-1 sessions before the Hunter Test and got in! I am very thankful to the teachers here. Very professional.

I have been taking my nephew to Yamaha class here, since his parents work on Sunday (so I have to watch him)... He is only 4 (almost 5) but my sister is a tiger mom... j/k. Actually, the class is great. He is a quiet kid, so we wanted him to learn music, and we found this class is better choice for him than piano lesson at home. He has fun and learns a lot ...he is learning reading notes and practices the keyboard and his magnet notes and the DVD. We have a good time (for his class, parent/adult sits in the class too, so we learn too... I used to sing choir in church, and I wish more people could read notes!! :P) I was so proud, before he was scared but then after a few weeks he actually volunteered to play in front of the classmates.
We had a concert at the Florentine at Broadway, and that is a nicer space (bigger building, not in Chinatown) so maybe we will take a class there next semester, but we like our teacher Miss Yuko at Henry Street and it's closer to us, so we'll see. Something to consider.

Um, it looks like the negative reviewers were probably not very good students. You get what you put in. If you don't follow the course of study and don't do the hw they give you, you don't get better, and you end up writing reviews with bad grammar. I did their summer program at Broadway two years ago, and the teachers are some of the most knowledgable and intelligent people I know. I still keep in touch with some of them. Two of the teachers are becoming doctors and a lot of them had masters degrees. We also did a really goofy Lion King show which was fun. The salsa class was a little bit awkward, but good in the long run. I'm really glad they had the chemistry/biology elective because we learned the basics before we learned it in regular school.

Florentine is basically a tutoring and music school. I only went to the tutoring school and I can tell you it is a waste of money. These course they have are not cheap. I took the SAT prep course and didn't learn much if anything at all. They provide no tips or strategies for taking the SAT. I would recommend people to go to Princeton Review or Kaplan. They have actual strategies to help you get the highest score and the teachers they have actually show that they know what they are talking about.

Florentine is supposed to be a tutoring school for all students, but I found no tutoring during the year i spent there. It is a complete waste of money and they do charge alot of money. The classes here are not cheap. The tutors that I got didn't really teach me anything useful. For example for the math clean he would go over a few questions of math but provide no real understand of the concepts. And the math that he was doing was totally unrelated to the course I was doing. The course I took was a SAT review course and I learned nothing off of it. I would recommend people to spend there money elsewhere. After this course I went to Princeton Review and I have to say they actually teach and provide really helpful technique for the SAT.
