Reviews for Fat Nat's Eggs

Ratings_icons I just had my favorite omelet ever

Carl H. | insider Insider | Rank: 29,557

Try Jacob's omelet. It is huge and packed full of carnitas, black beans, peppers and topped off with salsa. It was a surprisingly delicious combo. Pork, beans and peppers - who knew!? :)

I'll have to try lunch next time. My wife loved her California burger.

For a Sunday, it was busy but we found a table right away. I was impressed when they brought out two glasses full of soda for each of us (one with ice, one without). Very smart as it kept us from having to wait for refills.

We ate at the Brooklyn Park Nat's it was amazing! The service was great, the portions huge! The place was sparkling clean, the food was YUMMY! We are from a small town up North, and this was as close to a small down cafe as I've seen in the Burbs!
Keep up the good work Fat Nat's Eggs!!!

Ratings_icons Top Notch Sevice and Food

I was in town on business and had a chance to eat at both locations multiple times over several days (New Hope and Brooklyn Park). Oddly enough, Darla waited on me at both locations almost everytime. All I can say is that the service was tremendous and the food was just as good. I will be gong back everytime I am in town. Kudos and so far as I can tell there is nothing on the menu that should be avoided.

I had a chance to eat at New Hope Nats again and I've got to say that I STRONGLY recomend any of the omelets and the American Fries are to die for (and have them add some cheese). Darla and Vickie will keep your cup filled and Salvatore will make sure there isn't a dirty table in the place.

Ratings_icons good but needs improvement

deb m.

the food here is great, big portions priced a little on the spendy side
one bad thing that they must improve on is the wait staff, they move like turtles and don't ever check back with you. i realize on weekends it is busy but so are dennys and perkins and i have recieved much better and faster service there. i hope next time i visit (i have been there about 6 or 7 times) the service is better - starting from seating, serving and the worst thing i hate is waiting for 10 minutes to pay. get the lead out servers and you will have a gold mine. i have talked with other people and they also agree the service is killing this place

If you can find a place to sit, you will be happy you did.

Great food for a nice price, but a very busy place when open.

This resturant is consistently the best breakfast in the neighborhood....
We love the Nat's benedict.
You may have to wait for a seating, but it is worth the wait.

I enjoyed the food very much...comfort food :)
I wish the atmosphere was alittle less "cold diner" feeling.
Waitress seemed over worked by she did good.

Home cooking right here! Great omelets and eggs benedicts. I have been coming here for quite a while and will continue to do so. My favorite is the El Jefe omelet with salsa and black beans cooked inside. A unique flavor, but quite good.

Fat Nat's used to be a tiny breakfast restaurant that you had to wait for quite some time for a seat. That's a testament to how much people enjoyed the food.
Well, they expanded, and now on a weekday it's not usually a problem. Weekends are still busy. They have good food for a good price.

If you are looking to have a homecooked breakfast, but don't want to cook it yourself, settle into a booth here. The speciality is breakfast but there is lunch available as well. The price is reasonable here and it feels much more homey then a big brand-name joint!

PROS:
CONS: Small area, fills up fast

Ratings_icons Not impressed with Nats...

marci61456

I was not impressed with this place at all. As soon as you enter it smells like old greasy fried food. My hubby ordered the biscuits and gravy and I ordered the Elmers breakfast. The eggs were good and the "American Fries" (chunks of red potatoes with scallions) were just good - not great. The sausage gravy was very thick and just ok. All in all I don't see the attraction to this place - it is not an extraordinary restaurant at all.

Pros: Hot coffee

Cons: Old greasy spoon

I can call in an order and come pick it up to bring back to the office. Always hot, always perfect and the servers remember me. Love to dine in also.

Ratings_icons breakfast the way it Should be!

Blues King

This is how a breakfast joint is defined. Busy with pretty ladies and great cooks, lots of people with lots of conversation. No uniforms quietly roaming from table to table on carpeted floors. Jeff sets the standard here. He knows breakfast and you will be spoiled. (Great lunches too). Say Hi to Salvador. He will be the one shaking your hand and telling you that you made his day by coming in!

No Salvador, you made mine!

Pros: Food, Staff, Prices, Food, and Staff

Cons: Why would I need a CON?

Ratings_icons Biscuits and Gravy

newton

Seriously, the best I've had! Whenever I travel, I try other restaurant's biscuits and gravy and my response is usually, "not Nat's!"

Pros: I measure everything against nat's

Cons: it's a popular option...they run out once in awhile:)

Ratings_icons GREAT! Hollendaise!

Or, in a terrible neighborhood, equally far from town (Crooklyn Dark).
But, Vicki (sp?) at New Hope is an absolute doll. She was so nice to us and stuff. The eggs were NOT hard yolk as ordered, but nothing else at all was wrong.
Needs pie. Otherwise PERFECT!

Pros: LOVES the benedict, lots of vegetarian options, CHEAP!

Cons: In the middle of f'n nowhere (New Hope),

Ratings_icons First Timer

I went for the first time on a Saturday for a Noon breakfast. They were super busy which made me think it must be really good. WON--DER--FUL! I have never had such a good breakfast. The eggs were so delicious and needed no seasoning. It was way more food than we could eat and at a great price. No more Perkins for me!

Pros: Great food, great price, good service

Cons: very small spot. needed more elbow room.

Ratings_icons Good Food-Lousy Service

annicadelayla

I just ate here. It was good food but both workers we came into contact with made me feel like they couldn't wait for us to leave. Maybe because it's Labor Day? It wasn't that busy though. This was at the one in New Hope too...

Our server never came back to check how things were and she was terrible at following directions. (wanted lemonade in our ice tea and tomatoes on the eggs benedict.

Ahhhh well. I guess I expected more when they won best breakfast. But the food was good...and it beats Perkins any day...

Ratings_icons Welcome to Brooklyn Park's new breakfast and lunch restaurant

twoflowers

Welcome to Brooklyn Park. We used to have to drive to New Hope, but now Fat Nat is just down the street. Couldn't come at a better time with the high gas prices. No matter what you order, you will be well satisfied with the quality and quantity of their food. A great place to take your guests, and also a great place to take your family and the grandkids. Menu gives endless options.

Their raspberry French Toast is one of my favorites.

Pros: Lots of space, good service, easy parking

Cons: Would like a Senior Menu for smaller portions

Ratings_icons Best Breakfast Around

Awesome food and a great family owned diner. You will bring home leftovers. The family friendly atmosphere and high quality food wil bring you back again and again.

Pros: Great Breakfast food and Awesome Super Sized portions

Cons: Could have a little wait, but worth it

Fat Nat's is THE BEST breakfast restaurant I've ever eaten at (and I eat a lot of breakfast). Wonderful eggs, sausage and coffee. As far as I'm concerned, Nat and his crew set the standard for hash browns! The portions are HUGE and the price is not. The burgers are great too; esp the mushroom & swiss. The staff are always friendly and efficent (even when the place is packed). Keep up the fabulous work, guys!

Pros: Amazing breakfast food, great coffee, not expensive at all

Cons: Can get really busy during peak breakfast and brunch hours (b/c the food rocks!)

come one come all - people in the north suburbs (bp, bc, mg, osseo) you have got to get in your carsand try this place called fat nats. it is in a strip mall in brooklyn park. (by festival foods) the food isterrific and the service is wonderful. i know every who tries this breakfast/lunch place will be back. the food are huge portions and it is good home cooked food. make sure you're hungry - lunch menu looks good but did not try it yet. if you like eggs of any sort this place is for you. i'm not sure how many people even know it is open because they have not done any advertising but take it from me it is worth your trip
bon appetite!!!!!!!!!

Pros: good home cooked food - big portions - moderate pricing

Cons: none

The newly opened Fat Nats in B.P. was terrific. I think people in the area will love it, especially since there is no restaurants in Brooklyn Park. It is roomy and the service was great. Huge portions and very tasty.

Pros: great food no other breakfast spots in brooklyn park

Cons: coffee could of been a little hotter

I love Fat Nat! The Food is Amazing. This is not a greasy spoon, he chooses quality ingredients and cooks them to perfection. I especially love his pancakes, he must add a hint of lemon in them. Great service always.

Pros: Amazing Food

Cons: Can be busy at times

Ratings_icons Best breakfast in the Twin Cities

We've been visiting Fat Nat's for over two years now. Never a bad meal and the service is always excellent. The omelets are outstanding and by far the best in town. Quality ingredients make the difference. Weekend breakfasts can be busy, so plan accordingly. Weekday lunches are less crowded.

Pros: High quality ingredients, great service

Cons: Busy on weekends

Ratings_icons Still The Best!

motomatt

Been going to Fat Nat's since they opened a couple years ago. While that may make me biased, what really counts is that the quality and flavor of their food has remained very high -- just can't beat their excellent omelets! Other items to recommend: great burgers, better-than-Mom's egg salad sandwiches, and kid approved (and parent stealing) chicken. Staff are friendly and pretty much universally pleasant. Best part is, all of these qualities are just as evident now as when they opened. Highly recommended.

Pros: Food, Food, Food! Oh, and great staff...

Cons: Can get very busy -- though longest wait in the last 3 years has been less than 30 mins

Sunday morning 10:00~ We were greeted by huge smiles. We had a 7 minute wait for a table of four. Our waitress was right there and was friendly and just plain happy. The coffee was great. The kids ordered hot chocolate and it was served with a mountain of homemade whipped cream that was out of this world good! The food came so fast I was amazed. Seriously never had food on the table this quickly ever. We had a made to order omelet it's enormous and cooked perfectly. Biscuits and Gravy and weekend special and guess what..it's real gravy not some milk mix...Paula Deen would be proud Ya'll. Of course we had bacon crispy and tasty. The home fries and hash browns were great. The pancakes were fluffy and really good. It was the best breakfasts we've had in a very long time.

Pros: Absolutley everything

Cons: Not one thing

Ratings_icons Best Breakfast with great service and prices

mdfitz

I recently discovered Fat Nat's Eggs and it is now my favorite restaurant for breakfast. I have been back a dozen times now and I have not tried everything on the menu. The selection of Benedicts is great as is the boneless pork chop that I love to order with my over easy eggs. It is done perfectly everytime, not cooked to death like many restaurants do with pork. I find the prices very reasonable for the high quality of food that is being served. Friendly, fast service, I am never disappointed. Thanks Nat for giving us such a great place to start our day.

Pros: Great selection, good value.

Cons: Hard to get in at peak times.

Ratings_icons Great food and service

Ratings_icons Best Breakfast + Value

thecolorguys

Found this place almost by accident and after having lost so many of the Twin Cities great small diners over the last twelve years it was great to find a place that remembers HOW breakfast is DONE! Only two other places that know breakfast remain in the Twin Cities...but this is number one and a long way for us to go to get it because we are way down in Bloomington.

Pros: Perfect eggs, toast, hashbrowns and pretty decent sausage links - the old Joan's Log Cabin had the best but they are now gone.

Cons: None

The food is great and I love the counter for socializing.

Love ya, El Jefe...

Pros: Conversation and Coffee

Cons: None what so ever

Ratings_icons Treat you like family on your first visit

aristarch

The ingredients are fresh daily and the meals reflect this. The owner Jeff Nat is there everyday it seems and the staff he has treat you like family. The service and staff are excellent, and the food is even better. Very casual dining and very very fair prices for some of the best food in the cities. The two down sides are that they close sometime in the early afternoon every day and the juice isn't the same quality as all the cooking ingredients. It is from a bag or something like that. Some Martinelli's apple juice and other juices of that quality would be better suited. Used to be tiny but has expanded so no more huge waits. The eggs benidict (all of the different styles) are second to none...thus far. They can and will accommodate for large groups.

Pros: Staff, Food, Service

Cons: Hours, Juice

Ratings_icons by far the best of the best in the Twin Cities for breakfast and lunch

nor2man

If you are looking for "real food", fresh food, unusually conceived breakfast items, Fat Nat's is the place. From the varities of eggs benedict, to southern style bisquits and gravy, ingenious mexican huevos rancheros (with the best homemade salsa on the planet), to special blueberry pancakes and rasberry french toast, you can choose something different, unique and wonderfully tasty, every time you come to this friendly restaurant. All ingredients are carefully chosen by Jeff Nat, the owner operator. His attention to the detail and quality of the food that he uses in his dishes are the reason why customers continue to keep the place buzzing with conversation and a sense of having a very special experience eating here. Don't forget the hand made soups, pulled pork, hot turkey and beef sandwiches, as well as the best sized and quality hamburger to be had in the Twin Cities.

Pros: Great Value, Friendly Service, Priced Right

Cons: None, None, None

Ratings_icons A classic breakfast...cheap!

tgratz

Fat Nat's Eggs is a refreshing diversion from the bland chain fare found in suburbia. The menu isn't surprising, but the quality and portion size are fabulous. Long waits on weekend mornings are a sign of something great!

Pros: inexpensive, large portions, delicious food

Cons: bad coffee

Ratings_icons Never Disappointed

twg

If you want an excellent tasting, filling, economical breakfast, there is no other. I tried the City Pages "best breakfast" just recently and hated it. I've tried generally every other popular breakfast place Twincity area and none of them add up to this small, clean, quaint joint.

My family goes there at least 2 times per month for the last year. Not once has the food been bad, nor the service.

Nat is always in there cooking up huge, tasty omelletes, combo dishes, pancakes, hash browns, american fries, you name it. I always intend to eat something other than breakfast because he does do lunch, but boy those breakfast foods just look so good when I sit down to order.

Most people equate great breakfast places to the downtown, uptown, U campus areas. I say come out to Crystal for the best breakfast you will ever have in a restaurant.

Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Ample Parking

Cons: Not a lot of space

Ratings_icons Great food served with a smile.

skingdon

As a trained chef, I have a passion for good old home cooking, and it doesn't get any better than Fat Nat's. Our great little american diners are fast becoming a thing of the past. It truely is sad, we shut them down and open up another franchise with the same old sub-par food. And people flock to them because everyone else does. Jeffery Nat has a gift he is willing to share with anyone who comes in the door. So come in, sit down and relax, as the friendly staff takes care of you, while "Fat Nat" put his gift to work preparing one of the best "real meals" you can find. You will leave with a full belly and a smile on your face. This is after all, what a resturant should be. Real people, serving real food, with a passion for both.

Pros: Outstanding food, Great service

Ratings_icons If you love breakfast you will love Fat Nat's

Pros: food, service, prices

Cons: ambience

Ratings_icons Fantastic Way To Start The Day

daddiobaddio

Fat Nat's eggs are a fantastic way to start the day. The food, the staff and their attention to quality make this restaurant stand out. Jeff uses all fresh ingredients in preparation and turns out consistently tasty dishes.

The menu features a number of egg dishes: omelets -- Eggs Benedict are a specialty --and egg scrambles. Potatoes, pancakes and french toast are also staples on the breakfast side. The omelets, in particular, are stuffed with goodness and are my favorite breakfast items.

Lunch side items feature excellent burgers, terrific homemade soups and some of the best egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches I've found in visits to diners all over the country!

The combination of excellent food, friendly staff and good value make Fat Nat's one of my preferred destinations.

Pros: Good Value, Excellent Food, Friendly Staff

Cons: Can be crowded

Ratings_icons This diner is still the best place in the area. The food is still great, the service is fantastic, and the menu selection is excellent.

No matter which of several varieties of Fat Nat's Eggs Benedict--regular with terrific ham, Eggs Nat's BEnedict, with chorizo sausage, or Italian sausage--you will not be satisfied with eggs benedict anywhere else. Nat's are THE BEST, made with soft yolks the way eggs benedict should be made.

Pros: Good coffee, friendly staff, free parking

Nothing fancy here. Just the best, freshest food around. Huge portions served quickly by the cutest waitstaff in the western suburbs. The eggs benedict are great but I always go back to "El Jeffe". A 3 egg omlette stuffed with chorizo, black beans, onions and topped with salsa. MMMMMMM....

Pros: Quality, taste, service

Cons: closes too early

Ratings_icons Come hungry!!

The serving sizes are huge! Excellent steak and eggs and pork chop and eggs, but I highly recommend the "Fat Nat's slider". Plus, I'm an early riser, so enjoy the 5:00 AM opening time (7:00 AM on Sunday). Everything's fresh made, not "pre-packaged" mix. They crack real eggs, not pour them out of a bottle!

Pros: Portion size, Service, "Real" food

Ratings_icons Great Breakfast!!!

I've had the best Eggs Benedict ever at Fat Nat's! There's quite a few versions of the Eggs Benedict on the menu - they're all good - however, the Italian Benedict is probably my favorite! This is defintely a place where they'll be seeing me a lot!

Pros: Great Food, Good Service, Priced well
