An Ideal DEntist  5 Star Rating - World class

I finally found an ideal dentist. Very nice honest and cares for her patients. And her office in dc is really nice all upgraded and world class. Staff - very friendly. You should try visiting her office and I am sure you'll stick with her and you'll never find another one. She works very neat. and very careful NO PAIN at all

Not recommended  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I had a very bad experience with Minovi. I went to see her for a cleaning during a period when I didn't have dental insurance. She told me that I needed to replace an old filling using a elaborate and expensive ($1500) procedure which required 3 visits and destroying part of an existing tooth. Since it was so expensive, I decided to wait until I had insurance from a new job. Once I had insurance, I went to see another dentist (Minovi was not in-network) and took along Minovi's written description of what I needed. My new dentist said her recommendation was ridiculous and "extremely aggressive." He said I just needed a simple replacement, which he was able to do in one visit for about $300. That was 3 years ago, and I haven't had any problem with the new filling. I can only include that Minovi told me to get a procedure which I did not need, simply to take more of my money.

It also bothers me that every few months I get an advertisement postcard from her. I am opt-out lists for direct mail advertising, but she keeps sending me these cards.

Two strikes  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I have gone to Liza Minovi's office on two occasions. After an unsatisfying experience the first time proved to be a pattern, I've decided not to go back, and I wouldn't recommend others go, either.

The first time I went I mentioned that I thought I clenched my teeth in my sleep. Dr. Minovi suggested a nightguard, and I asked a few questions about it. When I went to "check out," I saw on my bill an extra several hundred dollars for the nightguard, which I had neither agreed to buy nor actually been fitted for and given. So after a rather awkward conversation, I left with the distinct impression that this office was aggressively interested in turning a profit--but it didn't bother me so much that I wouldn't go back.

Before my second visit, I called to confirm how much her services would cost--since as a grad student I don't have dental insurance. Dr. Minovi's office informed me I'd get a 10% student discount and that a cleaning is $80. This time, when I went to check out, I was charged $120 for the cleaning, apparently because it took longer than usual. This came as a surprise to me, since I had been there under an hour--and I had been told in advance on the phone that I should expect to be there for one and a half hours--and at no point did anyone inform me that I had crossed the threshold of a "normal" cleaning and therefore would have to pay 50% more. Being told after the services had been rendered, rather than being told at the time--and asked whether I wished to continue--struck me as rather dishonest. I suspect that she was simply looking for a way, however arbitrary, to charge me more, since I had no cavities and was expecting a small discount. After a very uncomfortable conversation with the receptionist and subsequently with Dr. Minovi, I managed to escape with the regular fee--the one I expected upon arrival. But the unpleasant experience, coupled with my first one in that office, was sufficient for me to decide not to go back.

Teeth Exam  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I had a terrible experience with Lizas dentist office. I asked before my treatment if my insurance was accepted at her office and I was told yes. After my treatment Liza herself said my insurance does not cover her work. I made her contact my insurance office and she said they were closed for today. (Friday 2pm???). Her assistant called again and what a surprise they were open. Not only did she lied twice but charged $ 130.00 for an x ray and no treatment since I did not trust her services. What a rip off. Avoid this office at all cost!

Liza Minovi, DDS - General Dentist  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I was referred to Liza Minovi, DDS by a friend who went to see her for the first time. My first experience was great. Everyone was friendly and Liza did a nice job cleaning my teeth. The second time is a different story. The receptionist was rude, they tried to charge me twice for x-rays twice that were paid for on the first visit, and I had a different dentist who did a horrible job cleaning my teeth.
I do not recommend Liza Minovi, DDS in Washington, DC.

Unpleasant, rude office  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

What started off as a successful first impression and plans to recommend this lovely, seemingly comfortable dentists' office quickly turned into realization of what a snobby rip off Lisa Minovi's office actually is.

I really needed a general checkup and especially a teeth cleaning, so went here because of the good location.

At first glance, admired the tasteful decor, initially friendly staff and the fact that the dentist chair I was led to faced a wall-sized window out to the street near Dupont Circle. It even had a video screen right over the chair -- but unfortunately, this was later used in response to my attempts to have a discussion with Dr. Minovi: "I'll answer that question with a short video!" kind of like in The Simpsons when adults try to brush off questions from kids about sex and other topics with stupid childish videos (highlights included "How to Brush Your Teeth" and "How Cavities are Formed - I was like lady, forget about my graduate degrees, I DID go to third grade). Very impersonal and insulting.

Further: nobody of the staff bothered to inform me over the phone OR when I checked in that they weren't in-network with my insurance. Sure, I should have looked myself, but I still expect that courtesy. They also did not inform me that I wouldn't get my teeth cleaned during that appointment. Instead, after the videos, Dr. Minovi led me back to an office where an impatient staff member informed me of the outrageous price of getting the cavities filled, and that I would have to pay the full $1,350 up front. "What about my teeth cleaning?" I asked -- and she told me she had to know how long it would take BEFORE I could get an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. So I wasted the time coming there and didn't even get a routine cleaning out of it. The woman telling me the prices seemed exhasparated that I was asking details of cost breakdown and what and when insurance would reimburse. Sorry lady, you chose this job and you get paid to do it, so don't guilt trip me about my expectations that you do your job correctly and thoroughly.

Overall an unprofessional, discourteous, and inconsiderate office all around. I will not be returning, and will recommend to others who ask to avoid this office.
