Minovi Liza is a con artist!!!
by Kiera E.
I share the same experiences with some of the others who left reviews. The receptionist checked my insurance but did not divulge the outcome until i asked her the cost. I asked if i had to pay anything and she said that my insurance had a $100 deductible and that hasn't been met. So naturally i felt that a cleaning shouldn't exceed $100. Minovi checked my teeth and told me what i needed to get done and then did my cleaning. After the services, the receptionist told me that the cleaning was more expensive then normal cleanings since it had been so long since my last one. This WAS NOT mentioned to me before Dr. Minovi began. I ended paying over $100 out of pocket which i didn't plan on spending. Then she broke down the work i needed on my teeth, fillings and extractions, which totaled over $2,000 including insurance coverage. Don't think I'll be going back there and i recommend no one else does either. Everyone is all smiles and giggles until the money becomes an issue.

Completely delightful!
by Mr. L.
Today's experience at Dr. Minovi's office was completely pain-free and delightful. To me, that is most important because I was completely fearful of the dentist's office, having had bad experiences as a child. Additionally, it helps when you have a caring and understanding office staff and assistants. Looking forward to my next appointment!

Had a great visit!
by Jane D.
This was my first visit to Dr. Minovi and although she gave me bad news (4 cavities), I was extrememly pleased with the dental and personal treatement from start to finish. Dr. Minovi and her staff are extremely professional and made me feel very comfortable during a somewhat uncomfortable procedure.

Dr. Minovi's practice
by Ana C.
Dr. Minovi's practice has it all: extremely friendly staff, very professional practitioners, and the best treatment and equipment. Dr. Minovi and Ms. Vina are the example of a truly successful family business. They complete each other and are both able to provide you with an extraordinary support that goes beyond their work. Their willingness to share experiences and ability to make me feel that I am part of their family is unique. I believe there is a place for everybody in America. They found theirs and are helping others find their path.
I always speak highly of the service and the entire package they offer to the customers. I have been a patient for many years and will come back as often as needed. Great environment; great team. It is a pleasure to chat with them and have a laugh before or after any dental work. Keep up the good work you're doing! I will be coming back!

My experience with Dr. Minovi
by Rida D.
I came in to have a filling replaced and received gracious and attentive service throughout the visit. The procedure was painless and I was in and out in under an hour. Dr. Minovi is so careful and conscientious of her patients, it makes coming in to have work done actually pleasant!

Great Dentist
by Nathan I.
Dr. Minovi has been my dentist for 5 years. Everything about my experience with her office has been fantastic. She and her staff have always been very kind, helpful and very professional. She is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. Her offices are also very comfortable and the equipment she uses is state of the art.
Upon most of my 6 month regular visits to her office, Dr. Minovi or one of her associate dentists has cleaned my teeth - not a dental hygienist. Due to the fact that a dentist does the cleaning, I always feel as though a more thorough cleaning has been performed.
I have had two other dentists prior to becoming Dr. Minovi's patient and the difference has been night and day. Not only is Dr. Minovi thorough with her cleaning and exams, but her costs have been less expensive than other doctors. She has also advised me to forgo certain treatments that are not totally necessary.
I whole heatedly trust Dr. Minovi to provide the best dental care and I would recommend her to anyone.

Avoid this Dentist Like the Plague!!
by jon m.
Having worked in a medical practice, I am all too aware of the marketing techniques and scams that rip off patients. On top of this I found the support staff to be rude and condescending when I began to ask questions regarding the fees that I was being charged. I am still annoyed that they are constantly sending me promo emails and postcards. One recent promo was for a seminar on how to get your needs met in a marriage. Are these people kidding?

Rip Off Dentist
by RE S.
I also had the experience of being told by Dr. Minovi that I needed to have my fillings replaced when I saw her for an ordinary check up (I had no pain, known cavities or particular dental issues.) When I got a second opinion from a relative who is a dentist and another dentist in Washington about whether this was necessary, Dr. Minovi dumped me as a patient.
Her office is very well decorated and appointed, but I now attribute that to her ripping people off and snow-balling her patients with such a nice office. I remember being surprised that a dentist would have an office like a hotel lobby rather than a simpler, more functional space and now I know why.
Steer clear!

I had a very bad experience with Minovi. I went to see her for a cleaning during a period when I didn't have dental insurance. She told me that I needed to replace an old filling using a elaborate and expensive ($1500) procedure which required 3 visits and destroying part of an existing tooth. Since it was so expensive, I decided to wait until I had insurance from a new job. Once I had insurance, I went to see another dentist (Minovi was not in-network) and took along Minovi's written description of what I needed. My new dentist said her recommendation was ridiculous and "extremely aggressive." He said I just needed a simple replacement, which he was able to do in one visit for about $300. That was 3 years ago, and I haven't had any problem with the new filling. I can only include that Minovi told me to get a procedure which I did not need, simply to take more of my money.
It also bothers me that every few months I get an advertisement postcard from her. I am opt-out lists for direct mail advertising, but she keeps sending me these cards.

Two strikes
by Anonymous
I have gone to Liza Minovi's office on two occasions. After an unsatisfying experience the first time proved to be a pattern, I've decided not to go back, and I wouldn't recommend others go, either.
The first time I went I mentioned that I thought I clenched my teeth in my sleep. Dr. Minovi suggested a nightguard, and I asked a few questions about it. When I went to "check out," I saw on my bill an extra several hundred dollars for the nightguard, which I had neither agreed to buy nor actually been fitted for and given. So after a rather awkward conversation, I left with the distinct impression that this office was aggressively interested in turning a profit--but it didn't bother me so much that I wouldn't go back.
Before my second visit, I called to confirm how much her services would cost--since as a grad student I don't have dental insurance. Dr. Minovi's office informed me I'd get a 10% student discount and that a cleaning is $80. This time, when I went to check out, I was charged $120 for the cleaning, apparently because it took longer than usual. This came as a surprise to me, since I had been there under an hour--and I had been told in advance on the phone that I should expect to be there for one and a half hours--and at no point did anyone inform me that I had crossed the threshold of a "normal" cleaning and therefore would have to pay 50% more. Being told after the services had been rendered, rather than being told at the time--and asked whether I wished to continue--struck me as rather dishonest. I suspect that she was simply looking for a way, however arbitrary, to charge me more, since I had no cavities and was expecting a small discount. After a very uncomfortable conversation with the receptionist and subsequently with Dr. Minovi, I managed to escape with the regular fee--the one I expected upon arrival. But the unpleasant experience, coupled with my first one in that office, was sufficient for me to decide not to go back.

Teeth Exam
by Anonymous
I had a terrible experience with Lizas dentist office. I asked before my treatment if my insurance was accepted at her office and I was told yes. After my treatment Liza herself said my insurance does not cover her work. I made her contact my insurance office and she said they were closed for today. (Friday 2pm???). Her assistant called again and what a surprise they were open. Not only did she lied twice but charged $ 130.00 for an x ray and no treatment since I did not trust her services. What a rip off. Avoid this office at all cost!

Unpleasant, rude office
by L T.
What started off as a successful first impression and plans to recommend this lovely, seemingly comfortable dentists' office quickly turned into realization of what a snobby rip off Lisa Minovi's office actually is.
I really needed a general checkup and especially a teeth cleaning, so went here because of the good location.
At first glance, admired the tasteful decor, initially friendly staff and the fact that the dentist chair I was led to faced a wall-sized window out to the street near Dupont Circle. It even had a video screen right over the chair -- but unfortunately, this was later used in response to my attempts to have a discussion with Dr. Minovi: "I'll answer that question with a short video!" kind of like in The Simpsons when adults try to brush off questions from kids about sex and other topics with stupid childish videos (highlights included "How to Brush Your Teeth" and "How Cavities are Formed - I was like lady, forget about my graduate degrees, I DID go to third grade). Very impersonal and insulting.
Further: nobody of the staff bothered to inform me over the phone OR when I checked in that they weren't in-network with my insurance. Sure, I should have looked myself, but I still expect that courtesy. They also did not inform me that I wouldn't get my teeth cleaned during that appointment. Instead, after the videos, Dr. Minovi led me back to an office where an impatient staff member informed me of the outrageous price of getting the cavities filled, and that I would have to pay the full $1,350 up front. "What about my teeth cleaning?" I asked -- and she told me she had to know how long it would take BEFORE I could get an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. So I wasted the time coming there and didn't even get a routine cleaning out of it. The woman telling me the prices seemed exhasparated that I was asking details of cost breakdown and what and when insurance would reimburse. Sorry lady, you chose this job and you get paid to do it, so don't guilt trip me about my expectations that you do your job correctly and thoroughly.
Overall an unprofessional, discourteous, and inconsiderate office all around. I will not be returning, and will recommend to others who ask to avoid this office.

Liza Minovi, DDS - General Dentist
by DJ M.
I was referred to Liza Minovi, DDS by a friend who went to see her for the first time. My first experience was great. Everyone was friendly and Liza did a nice job cleaning my teeth. The second time is a different story. The receptionist was rude, they tried to charge me twice for x-rays twice that were paid for on the first visit, and I had a different dentist who did a horrible job cleaning my teeth.
I do not recommend Liza Minovi, DDS in Washington, DC.
