I've had J. C. Flood install two hybrid heat pumps, a 20kw standby generator, and a water heater. In every case they did outstanding work on time and on budget. Their technicians are very professional, highly skilled, and very customer friendly.

I just had to have my PTAC unit cleaned on short notice, the condensate pan had algae it. YUCK! It was cleaned right outside of my apartment without using noxious chemicals and Jason the John C. Flood tech provided a non-toxic checmical treatment to prevent it from getting out of control again. Thanks Ya'll!

My tub was draining slowly so I put drano in it which made it stop draining all together. I have plumbing insurance through American Water and they recommended John C Flood. Maggie called me within an hour after making the claim. We made the appt for 3:00. I love the email I got with Harry Hudson's picture so I knew exactly who was coming to my house. He was so nice and didn't mind that I watched him and asked him 20 questions. He was able to get the clog (lots of hair) out quickly and cleaned up after himself. He even had a refrigerator magnet to give me. Your company is the best plumbing company that has ever come to my house and I will be calling you again when I need help. Thank you so much!

we lost hot water, the pilot light was failing,
i left online message at the John C. Flood
website a little after 6 a.m.

They answered with a phone call before 7 a.m.
and dispatched a professional who arrived
near 7:30 a.m.

He, John, tried to fix the pilot light with a new assembly,
with a price quoted from an industry manual, but apparently,
the unit was failing so, he quoted a price for a new heater,
i agreed, and the new unit was in by about 12:30 p.m.

I would have been delighted in the pilot could have been fixed,
but, i saw that he tried and it just wouldn't take, so, i
chalked it up to a necessary household expense.

It is my pleasure to write this extremely positive review about my extremely positive experience as a customer of John C. Flood, Inc. Recently, my own amateur attempts to install all new bathroom electrical switches and child tamper proof outlets in my home resulted in near disaster. Wrong wires were cut, sparks flew and half the house was left in total darkness. After trying to patch mangled wires back together, I was shocked to find that the powder room fan switch now controlled all electrical power to my kitchen refrigerator and my front porch lights! Help!!

After exploring various internet consumer blog sites, I selected and then telephoned over seven reputable local companies. I was disappointed to find out four of the companies were booked solidly; ranging from 5 days up to as long as two weeks. During my telephone calls, several of these companies put me directly into their voice mails and thereafter failed to return my calls. A few electricians, when successfully contacted, treated my situation rather unsympathetically. Six of the seven electrical repair companies flatly refused to make any immediate space for me in their busy schedules. All except for John C. Flood, Inc. Their phone attendant calmly listened to my tale of woe and was polite, reassuring and professional. She promised to send a skilled and experienced residential specialist out to my home as early as possible; suggesting an expedited time frame conveniently coordinated with my own personal schedule.

Right on schedule, the John C. Flood electrician, Mr. Walter Toledo appeared at my door, ready to get to work. He was extremely polite, neat in appearance and very professional in demeanor. He carefully listened to my saga of electrical mishaps. Walter calmly assured me that he was absolutely confident that he could straighten out all of my electrical problems, regardless of how complex they may appear. He quickly inspected the wiring mess I had created and then quoted me a very reasonable price to repair it all, perfectly. With my consent, this John C. Flood electrician went immediately to work, demonstrating highly professional, experienced and efficient wiring repair skills. Walter didnt mind me watching him work. He patiently answered all of my amateurish questions and even took the time to carefully explain to me exactly what he was doing and why he was doing things in a particular way. During his repair work, Walter pointed out several flaws that he discovered in my homes original electrical wiring installation. He quickly corrected each of my wiring problems, plus each of my homes uncovered potential problems.

With all repairs expertly accomplished, Walter carefully recalculated his fee for services rendered (i.e., time + material). With a broad smile, he handed me a final bill that was far cheaper than originally estimated. Apparently, all repairs been accomplished by Walter in less time than originally estimated. Before my eyes stood a highly skilled tradesman and an honest person. Understandably, I am now an enthusiastic fan of John C. Flood, Inc. As such, I am pleased to recommend their services to any and all potential customers.

On Saturday, November 19, our main drain/sewage backed up and the only company available was John C Flood. Unfortunately, I have not read any reviews prior to my hiring them and now I am really sorry for that. They came out, Jay was the technician, and "fixed" the problem for little less than $600 in less than 30 minutes. I suggested that we snake the drain longer than 30-45 ft but Jay assured me that he "felt" the end of the snake hitting the obstruction and clearing the problem.
At this point we were content but today we had the same issue. I called the company and asked to get someone out to redo the job. I understand such work is not warrantied and I merely wanted to get the job done and ask how much would cost to come out for the second time. Jay called me back and, long story short, after trying to explain what happened he cut me off and ranted defensively. When I tried to explain, yet again, why I was calling he simply hung up on me.
Needless to say, I called the office and complained but the very nice young lady, office manager, could not help since she was obviously not empowered to do so. I understand the situation when one is vulnerable exposed so I complied with their requests and was quite content with the service for the first time; however, today's experience ranks with the most disturbing and least expected level of service, or lack thereof, I ever experienced.
For sure, I will post my dissatisfaction, to say the least, on all possible blogs. There are many other plumbing companies that are willing to service you for less with superior service. DO NOT USE THEM.

We have nothing but great things to say about John C. Flood of Virginia and its entire staff. Shane, the service technician, was very knowledgeable and walked us through the process of determining what unit was best suited for us. Bill and Walter, the installers, were equally as professional and personable and worked non-stop to insure that we got our unit up and running.

I called our regular air conditioning company, but they couldn't come until Monday afternoon. On a friend's recommendation, I then called John C. Flood, and spoke to Cindy. She scheduled a technician from noon to 3 PM today. The technician, Tom Goldsmith arrived shortly before noon. I'm a journalist and my wife is a college professor. We know nothing about engineering. We feared the worst. But Tom advised us that we only needed a new capacitor. He had one in his truck, and promptly installed it. He then advised us that our air conditioning unit was built in 2000, and should last 15-18 years. We learned a lot about air conditioning units from Tom. We also learned a lot about courtesy. Thank you so much for the wonderful service.

Jay came by a few days later to fix a leak in the check valve for the sump pump. Both men were very polite, courteous and professional. Maggie was the first person I talked to each time I called your company and she was so nice and polite and accommodating. Each time I called she scheduled service for the me that very same day. I did a search for John C Flood and came across this page for reviews and was quite astounded. I used John C Flood of VA Inc on several occasions and had nothing but great experiences. I am a bit confused. Most recently it was an AC issue and they we prompt, courteous, professional and fixed the problem and my family and I were comfortable again. I was made aware, like an earlier post noted, there are two John C Floods operating in the area. Strange for sure, but I suspect one might be getting the brunt of the bad reviews simply by default of having the same name. Whatever the case, my experiences have always been fantastic and the one I am referring to so there is no confusion is the one in Virginia. I believe their website is www.johncflood.com. I have a co-worker who gave me the same warning too about John C Flood but after chatting we realized the one I use and the one he used are two different companies and he too had an awful experience. So to be fair, let's try to be sure we are blasting or congratulating the right John C Flood. Apparently there is a huge difference in service and problems.

The worst customer service....I recommend you NEVER use John C. Flood.

In these economic times, business must be good for JCF to provide such horrible customer service. I went on-line over two weeks ago to schedule an appointment for repair to our HVAC and asked for an estimate to replace the entire HVAC system (it's very old, we know it's time). A nice lady immediately called to confirm the appointment for two days later. On appointment day, no one showed........no one called. I wrote back (on-line) saying as much and immediately got a call from Pat, the manager. He apologized profusely, making the excuse of how busy they were and asked for another opportunity to earn our business back. We made another appointment and the guys showed this time.....told us what we expected; that we needed a new system, promised to have us a written estimate by early the following week and charged us $99, doing nothing to repair the system. That was nearly 2 weeks ago and we still haven't heard back from them. As I said......business must be terrific to blow off over $7,000 worth of work. We hired another local company...they've been terrific, very responsive and they also didn't charge us for their estimate.

That was nearly 2 weeks ago and we still haven't heard back from them. As I said......business must be terrific to blow off over $7,000 worth of work. We hired another local company...they've been terrific, very responsive and they also didn't charge us for their estimate.

WOW- they were in my house for 30 minutes and charged $255 for THIRTY minutes of work. all he did was reinstall a wire that fell out of my furnace. I would not call them again!

There is something to keep in mind here. I had a terrible issue with a John C. Flood company. When I called to get it rectified they told me they never did service for me. They advised me there are two different John. C. Flood companies and they are in no way affiliated. So I decided to go with the other John C. Flood Inc. (located on Kennedy St. in DC). They were spectacular. They corrected my current plumbing issues and managed to help me with lingering HVAC issues. Just make sure you know which company you are dealing with. I would call John C. Flood Inc. located on Kennedy St. in DC any day of the week.

I cannot state strongly enough how terrible and incompetent their customer service is. They convinced us to put in a $7,500 brand new heating/AC unit in when all we needed was service and in the 18 months since it has not been working over 15 TIMES! They never fully repair it - we can just count on not having heat or air conditioning on any days that it is very hot or very cold. It has been a complete NIGHTMARE and has caused us endless aggravation.

Furthermore the manager is rude, never returns our calls and has refused to let us speak to the owner multiple times. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!

DONT USE THEM!!!! I had the worse experience using this company, the people that answers the phone are rude and the only reason that I use them was because their rate was the cheapest (I wonder why?), they send this plumber that took him and hour to lit the pilot in the water heater!!! He said that he had to replace a wire and I was charge 265! I told the plumber that my place smelled like gas and he said that it was normal but it will disappear after a couple hours, the next day the place still had a strong odor, the gas company came and found that the plumber left a gas leak, the gas company shut down the gas I had not hot water and not heater on a 30 degree weather, when I call to complain the didn??t even say sorry they said that they were going to send somebody the next day!! Horrible company I am sure there are companies that are more honest and they will be happy to help you...

I was told their labor rate was $80 the first 15 minutes and $39 each 15 minutes thereafter. 40 minutes would be $167.00 which means by garbage disposal cost me $266.00. It retails for approximately $85.00 according to several web sites. Would not recommend them at all unless you get a fixed price that suits you.

Terrible!...John C Flood plumbing department are thieves and crooks. Replaced good working parts for cheap plastic ones aside from doing shoddy work. Keep away from them. My 5 year old could have done a better job!

I too wish I had read this before using them. I believe that they overcharged me as well and they did not do what their contract stated they were going to do. I had my main water line to my house replaced by John C. Flood and the contract stated that they were going to install K copper (the thickest of the 3 coppers typically used), however they installed L copper. Consequently, I had to have the same water line replaced again this year, which was only 6 years after John C. Flood fixed it. Also, 6 years later I paid significantly less than what John C. Flood charged me in 2003. I have tried contacting them and left messages but they have not acknowledged my attempts.

Is there a way to give a negative star?

I wish I had read these reviews before I used them. They grossly overcharged me, did not complete work they were asked to do, put a huge stain on my carpet, got an oil product into my cordless phone which ruined it, didn't totally clean up after themselves, and would not provide a complete detailed invoice after being repeatedly asked. They then threatened to put a lien on the property, which I no longer own, because I refuse to pay until I receive a proper invoice and a reduction in cost for what was improperly completed. The price also went up between the original cost I was told and the cost when I asked for more detail.

Based on these reviews, there is no way I would trust these people with my credit card number, either.

I called them because they had an $89 special on HVAC repairs. They more than made up for that with what they charged for the rest.

In both instances it was somehow my problem, and they refused to complete original project without additional payment to correct their mistakes. Complete crooks. This is an unrealiable company. They include charges to your card that are not what you were told and later when you try to find out the reason the person you are supposed to talk to is never there and they make up all sort of stories about the reasons for it. I do not recommend this company at all!

Beware - company charges for 'waiting time' if you need to consult anyone before proceeding with repairs -- and they won't tell you this until afterward when they add a large fee to your bill. Get everything up front.

They missed the appointment and blamed it on not being able to "find the guy with the drill." We cancelled on them and they would not refund our $200.00 deposit. Silly for us for laying out a deposit. After a month of corresponding with them they granted us a refund but it never came. After 6 months of daily calls and emails they are claiming we were never in the system for a refund and have since stopped taking calls from our home and cell phone. In addition they did work for us a month before all of this and they never checked their work for leaks. I had to tighten down the pipe they installed.

When they left, we were unable to use either the bath or the sink in the bathroom and they gave us a massive "additional quote" for fixing the problem. Moreover, they made a huge mess and made no attempt to clean up after themselves. We called another plumber and they managed to fix the problem for a few hundred dollars -- much less than the "additional quote". The "additional quote" aside, this company's pricing policy is very opaque -- go for one that charges by the hour for the time that the plumber is actually at your home. We raised our concerns with the service provided with the company and received no explanation or apology -- one can only assume that this is their normal standard.

I would like to let everyone know about the world class service this company has provided me. Early this summer we experienced issues with our AC. Let me mention we have 3 small children in the house. Mr. Gallagher arrived at our home and was not only the utmost professional, but very sympathetic to our problem. He provided me a quote far below my expectations and the mechanics had our house comfortable in less than 4 hours. I wouldn't hesitate to call them in the future.

Flood had someone come back out -- still the same day as our first call -- and go over options for a new furnace. Techicians arrived Monday and installed the new furnace. They were very professional, worked hard, and did everything for the agreed on price. So long as the new furnace keeps working, I give this company a very high rating and would recommend them to others.

Please do not call this company. There were problems with their plumbing work and when we tried to talk to them about fixing them, they did not quickly respond and try to fix the problems and leaks. On top of all of this, they left a huge mess in every area that they worked and did not clean up.

I am very disappointed. Despite a promise of an estimate, plumber never gave one; I was merely presented with a $398 bill for fixing two faucets after work was done. And the work itself left much to be desired. One faucet still leaks. Plumber never cleaned up and left my house a mess. In fixing one bathroom, the plumber scuffed walls and cracked wooden trim outside one bathroom -- then told me "find a carpenter" to fix it. Complained to John C. Flood but no one ever called back. If you like being gouged for sloppy work, give them a call.

He told us to return what we had gotten at home depot and to get something cheaper-we really appreciated that. the only problem is that they charge you for travel time-I don't know if all handymen do that
