Worst dining experience ever!!!

This place is truly a ??hole-in-da-wall? with sub par service.
The only thing that??s remotely palatable about Pequena is their breakfast burrito which they only serve on Sat/Sun. I dine out a lot, way more than I would like to admit; and I especially love small quaint neighborhood eateries but unfortunately Pequena doesn??t fit this description at all. I live in the area so I felt compelled to try it out a couple of times, each time leaving grossly disappointed. The food sucks, drinks are watered down and the service is deplorable not to mention there are flies everywhere!!!
Considering there so many other great options in the neighborhood they will definitely never see me again.

Really enjoy both taking out from and eating in at this tiny little Mexican restaurant. Food quality is very high and the margaritas are very good, Summertime outdoor dining on the deck is a fave

Wanted to go there the other night as I hadn't been in many months and have always loved the food. But, my "old lady" wanted to go to Pacifico instead and we were in that neighborhood anyway. I was curious and had remembered hearing good things, so we ate there. Long story short; Krappy! Will give that review on the Pacifico page. So, to fill my desire for that type of Mexican food that Pequena and Pacifico both serve, we went to Pequena last night. What a difference!!! Margarita; Very good! Limey, strong, not too sweet and came without salt, the way I ordered it (seems a very hard thing to get; the last 2 margs. I've ordered [at Bonita, then Pacifico] both "rocks, NO salt", came with salt!! Then they got poured into new glasses, taking a noticeable amount of the salt with them into the new glass!).......OK, back to PQ.....Guacamole; still some of the best I've ever had in a restaurant and a very generous portion! Chips are always great here too! Then, the Black Bean and Plantain Quesadilla; LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Then, the caesar with shredded pork! I'm a caesar salad person and could eat it every day. ALso, I don't like when it's 'f'd' with, but this one's good. and fresh. and big. and you can get shredded pork on top! keep your pallid chicken breast for the next dieter, please; i will take my pig chunks instead! Oh yeah, and the pico de gallo also kicked the butt of the one at Pacifico!
So, I've seen this place get KRAZY with tables, walk-in's, deliveries, phone calls, etc. As, I've said, it's tiny and i can see how it can get overwhelmed and take a while for food, etc.
But, damn if I didn't LOVE EVERY SINGLE BITE of my food there last night and every slurp of tequila-lime-icy-no-salt goodness!!!

Pros: best guacamole and margarita you'll get outside of my house

Cons: can get crazy when it's running full-throttle!

Listen, if you're going to make me wait over an hour for a quesadilla, just tell me when I walk in so I can leave immediately! Not only was the owner dismissive each time we (and the three tables near us) inquired where our food was, but they didn't bring chips or anything to nibble on until 5 min. before our food finally came out. A pregnant woman's husband asked several times if they could have something while they waited, and his wife was literally crying she was so hungry and they left after about 45 minutes! We almost left when over an hour later our two simple dishes arrived, and then I had the weirdest conversation I've had in a long time. I guess the owner was trying to make up for the absurd time it took to bring our food, so first she said she'd comp the meal. Trying to be polite I said "oh, you don't have to do that," so she says "do you guys come here often?" Being honest we say "this is our first time here," and what does the owner do? She brings back a check with one meal on it? Huh? What?! So if we were regulars who waited that long you'd comp us, but because you figure this was so screwed up that we won't return, you adjust the check back up? Well, mission accomplished lady. Never, ever will I recommend Pequena!

Pros: None

Cons: Takes forever for food, rude owner, tiny gross bathroom

The food is so affordable here that it shocks me that anyone would complain about the price? Where are you comparing Pequena to? McDonald's Dollar Meal? Brunch is $7. It costs only a little more than those Dominican places you used to see all over and is quite good. I'm a former Angeleno and this is about as close as I have gotten in the city to not being embarrassed to be seen eating Mexican while living here.

It is, however, SMALL, esp. by Brooklyn standards, so get there early.

The food is pretty good, but everything's about a dollar or two more than it should be. And nothing on the menu is spicy enough. And if you place an order to go, they might tell you they're too busy to walk the three steps it takes to bring you your food outside. As a former waiter, I have sympathy for someone genuinely in the weeds, but I also know that the extra seconds of effort are not too much to expect.
There's much better Mexican food on 5th Ave in Brooklyn.

I love Mexican food. I lived in Mexico for a year, I've traveled all over and when this spot opened up I was encouraged by the funky decor, Oaxacan figures, Day of the dead, mexican tile, lots of bright colors, but i was worried to try thr food. It was delicious. I've had the black bean and plantain quesadillas, the chicken enchiladas with green sauce, the pork tostada(authentic slow cooked stewed pork, delicious) and the chili rellenos. Everything was excellent and big portions too. Also, brunch is so busy everywhere but even though the place is small I always get a seat there. The margaritas are fresh lime juice even the frozen ones. For a small place this one has big flavors.

I go to Pequena on a weekly basis and have never experienced bad service or lousy food-everything has always been fresh and delicious. The decor is cute and fun, the margaritas refreshing, and the chicken tortilla soup is a must! In addition, you can fill up on around $8.

A plate of 2 tacos a la carte is $5.00 and a dinner plate of 3 tacos, with rice and beans, is $10.00. I didn't want the rice and beans, but I did want 3 tacos, which I figured I could have for $7.50, by purchasing an extra taco for what seems the going rate, $2.50. However, 3 tacos a la carte is "not on the menu," neither are single tacos. It wasn't possible to accomodate my choice, they said, in a rude and quarrelsome manner, even though it admittedly "sounded ridiculous." Her words, not mine. That's because it is ridicilous. So they want my business only under one of two conditions? $5.00 or $10.00, but not $7.50? Be serious.

For the record, this was not the first time the service at Pequena was either presumptuous--on another occasion a server rounded my change down by nearly a dollar, because they didn't have the proper coinage, instead of assuming the burden of their own mistake--or just plain non-existent, to the point of actually taking offense at asking for their help. This would be excusable to some extent if they had a product that warranted the attitude, but they don't. The food as well is a European's idea of Mexican food. Stay away at all cost.

Tiny place with great atmosphere. The food is consistent if not fantastic. Margaritas are great and the service is top notch. Order the chips!

After relocating to New York from the Midwest, we were in dire need of Mexican food. After a friend recommended this place, we finally decided to check it out. The overall atmosphere was great, but the food was subpar. The chips and pico were good, but not having queso on the menu is a minus. Our meals were good, but not as "great" and "wonderful" as the reviews on here would lead one to believe.

really does look like a hip grandmother's place. Too tiny but worth the wait. Margarita is a great accompaniment to their mexican brunch menu. If you like mexican, you will like this place.

The quality of the food at Pequena is exceptional. I just moved to New York from Texas and I have to admit that it was refreshing to enjoy Mexican fare that wasn't covered in greasy cheese. The restaurant is, well, small as the name suggests but the staff is very good at getting you seated as soon as possible. My suggestions are the bean dip, pork tacos, and the half chicken. My only complaint is the high price of the drinks, but maybe I am too used to drinking all night for $12 like you can in Texas.

I like Pequena a lot -- I've only lived in Fort Greene for a couple of weeks, and they're already on the delivery hotlist. I have to say, though, that they haven't ironed out the delivery kinks. Last time I ordered, it took three tries before they brought all the food I ordered, although a waitress actually ran to my house with the last correction, which was sweet. The food is highly recommended, especially the sweet plaintains with creme fraiche and oaxacan cheese. Mmm. The green sauce is not for the faint of heart.

I've been very pleased with the quality of food and drink at this darling place. It IS small, which can be a bummer if you've got a lot of friends to bring along. But it's perfect for a pre-BAM meal, and the prices are great. Take adavantage of the 2 for 1 margaritas, and split a plate of food. If you get chips & guacamole before, you'll find that's an ample meal for you with plenty of drinks!

Pequena is the best mexican food in town- fresh, flavorful and delicious. The fish tacos are amazing. Even the margaritas are made from fresh lime juice. The waitstaff is super nice. They'll even call you at the neighboring bar if there is a wait. we go as often as possible, brunch or dinner. It should not be missed.

My husband and I stopped by Pequena for what we hoped would be a quick bite. We had been to Pequena before and loved the food. We ordered appetizers and a couple drinks. An hour later, all we had were our drinks. Not once did the waitress stop by to talk to us. When we tried to get her attention, she ignored us. We finally asked for the food to go. This took another 20 minutes! When we got our food, the waitress barely said a word as she placed our take-out on the table and grabbed the check. We are laidback diners and as we've both waited tables, we tend to be forgiving of irregular service. However, this waitress was downright surly, and by the time we left, we felt miserable, hungry, and furious. We will never go back to Pequena again.

we just got home from dinner at pequena. we've had good experiences there in the past, but the service can be disappointing. tonight (a slow monday night), we sat down at the same time as another couple and they had eaten their meal and left by the time we were brought our food. the waitress did not offer to give us anything to compensate for the late food until we were so hungry we asked for something to tide us over. in the end, the only discount they gave us was for the cost of one drink. we thought that was pretty lame considering we are usually loyal customers. so, when you go to pequena don't be surprised if you feel as if you aren't exactly their top priority.

I previously had posted a so-so review for Pequena, stating the food did not have enough flavor and was not as great as I'd expect. Well, I had to come back and give them a better rating after my most recent experiences. They have really started turning out great dishes and seem to have worked the kinks out. Still some of the fastest delivery times in all of Ft. Greene is a great bonus! Their fish tacos are a standout.
