Animal Care Clinic

Dr. Mecenas and his staff were so professional and easy to deal with when my dog became deathly ill. He never hesitated to help save my dog Casey's life. He removed her gall bladder without any hesitation and kept me notified through every step of the procedure even calling me while he was in surgery telling me what he found. I am eternally grateful to him for still having my baby girl in our lives. Highly recommend him for any type of pet need you may have.

This is such a wonderful Vet!

My cat is traumatized any time he has to leave the house, and Dr. Macenes took the best care of him during his visit, and also gave me suggestions about how to calm the cat prior to transporting him in the future.

I just recently got a new cat as well (who developed a nasty cough) and Dr. Macenes was willing to take my call on a weekend (off hours!) to help me assess what do to help my cat breathe better. I don't think I can describe how much that meant to me and my husband. You can tell this doctor really cares about the animals!

I brought one of my cats, Maddie, to Dr. Macenas at the Animal Care Clinic one day after the cat had come home unable to walk on one of her legs - I had left her at a local dog and cat boarding buisiness that I was unfamiliar with and my cat was returned to me this way. Dr. Macenas and his assistant Julie immediately took control and gently assessed my cat, while calming my considerable anxiety. After xrays, it was determined that Maddie had a broken leg. Dr. Macenas later did surgery to place a pin and wires to secure Maddie's leg for healing. It is now many months later and Maddie is completely recovered and running around chasing treats. I think that Dr. Macenas and his staff are truly the best place I could have brought my cat and I recommend them highly. They are gentle, caring and are honest and I trust them with my very loved life companions.

I have been taking our cats to Dr.Mecenas for a few years and can honestly say that not only is he a first-rate vet, but so kind to the animals. His office is clean and the receptionist, Julie is so nice and helpful and always smiling, that when I walk by doing my shopping, I make a note to wave. The prices are fair and you can get an appointment pretty much the same day and you never feel rushed during the appointment.

Our family would like to commend, thank, and recommend Dr. Charles Mecenas and his staff at the Walkersville Animal Care Clinic in the Walkers Village Center for the care, compassion and professionalism they shared with us during the life and death of our 8-year old beagle, Rocket. Area residents will remember that Dr. Lee Miller of Walkersville started this clinic many years ago and the pet and livestock owners in the Walkersvile area well remember the regard they had for him. Dr. Mecenas and his staff match or surpass the 'high bar' set for them before Dr. Miller's retirement and sale of the clinic. Dr. Macenas and his staff told the whole story, went the extra mile, and truly cared about our family and our pet. We highly recommend him and his staff to area pet owners and wish more of us had the courage and dedication to our profession that Dr. Macenas and his staff represent in theirs.

It has been 32 years since I had a pet, and we adopted my sister-in-law's minuture schnauzer. I was seeing a vet on Fort Detrick, and Reno received his annual shots. Reno arrived home and was not himself, he was unable to move did not want to eat nor drink. I hurriedly made an appointment with Dr. Mecenas' office. To take into consideration he was not recommended, just took my chance and made an appointment. Reno received the care and was up and about within hours. Now, I can recommend Dr. Mecenas as he is caring, knowledgable and professional.

I brought my dear friend Pumbaa (10y/o chihuahua) to see Dr. MeCenas today. We just moved to the area and were recommended to him by a close friend. Dr. MeCenas is a FANTASTIC, caring VET. Staff was very friendly too! Quick response to some lab work we had done today! All I can say is WOW!!!

I would recommend Dr. Mecenas practice. When my 16 year old cat BC, was nearing death and was in pain, Dr. Mecenas was willing to travel to my home and very gently and caringly, put him to sleep while I petted him. BC was totally calm and accepting of the process. (Side note: if I had taken BC to a vets office, he would have been traumatized; something had happened to him at a different vet's office some years before and he began to be fearfull whenever I visited any vets office.)

We have been stationed in Frederick for 2 years now and we tried some of the larger area vets but we were never satisfied with the care and personal attention they provided. Our local kennel Greenbriar Pet Resort (also 5 stars) recommended Dr. Charles Mecenas at the Animal Care Clinic in Walkersville. We enthusiastically endorse his care and service. He has always treated our dogs like they were his own and his knowledge really impressed us. The staff is very friendly and appointments are always convenient. Walkersville is a very short drive from Fort Detrick and we encourage anyone looking for a vet in Frederick to try Dr. Mecenas.

This is a very nice little animal hospital located in the same shopping center as Safeway in Walkersville. Although, I am not very happy with the vet who happens to be the owner, the rest of the staff there is good. When a friends cat got hit by a car, the doctor actually came into the hospital during non-business hours to help us out. He was very caring and it was super nice that he would take time out of his personal life to help a stranger. They also have great prices. Not too expensive.

We had our youngest kitten declawed and neutered here and it was a great experience. (well for us!) They are very friendly and helpful staff and even let me go back to the back room to get my kitten when we picked him up. It was very clean. Prices are wonderful too and nothing is overpriced. They also usually have avaiable openings if you call that same day.
