It's hard to find a place that matches the quality, fresh, Indian food served here at a reasonable price. Over numerous, regular visits, I have literally tried- and enjoyed- just about everything on the menu. The place can get filled easily during peak times, so it is also convenient to pick up orders to go. I look forward to my meals at Cafe Raj as I know it will be a comforting salve of heavenly fare.

I wouldn't say it's the BEST Indian food I've ever had, but it's pretty darned good. Chicken dishes (what we have most of the time) are lovely white meat, which, unfortunately, can get a bit dry. Sauces are really nice and fresh tasting. We usually get take-out rather than eating in, but when we have eaten it it was a good experience.

I have to disagree strongly with the other reviewer. This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The food and service seemed to get even better after they expanded (from a tiny hole in the wall to a moderately small hole in the wall) a few years ago. Everything tastes fresh and delicious. Samosas are great, lassis are great, gulab jamun (dessert with honey sauce) is great, best saag paneer I have had anywhere. Naan is outstanding (especially the cheese and garlic varieties -- both are really great). I have tasted some fish dishes there and thought they were just fine, though I don't know why you'd want to order fish at an Indian place anyway. I'm vegetarian and love the wide range of veggie options; my husband loves the chicken tikka masala and says it is the best he's had anywhere. Portion sizes are generous but not overwhelming -- just right (maybe on the big side, but I like that). The service and decor are wonderful too. We've been to a lot of Indian restaurants in the US and have found this one to be our very favorite.

Cafe Raj was so highly recommended by my friend, that she had to take us there. Since she was buying, my wife and I decided to try something new. Unfortunately we had a long wait because we chose to go on the day of the Solono stroll.

I had a fish dish with curry. Warning - It is probably not a good idea to get fish at an Indian restaurant unless they own a fishing boat. This proved the point. The fish was fishy tasing, although the curry was spicy enough to cover it up. After a few Taj Mahals it tasted fine.

The vegetable somosas were great. One of our dishes, a curried squash -type dish was really bland and the vegetables were purre'd into a soup. So was really nothing to bite into - and it was bland. We had asked for medium spicy, and some dishes were. But this vegetable disk was pretty bland.

Still we liked the restaurant, the friendly waitress, and the nice decorations. I guess we didnt know what to order there. I should have stuck to my usual Chicken Tikka and Lamb Vindaloo.

PROS: Affordable, Beer and Wine
CONS: Fish was not fresh
