I was absolutely humiliated at The Fillmore SF when I went to pick up my will call ticket for A Perfect Circle on Nov. 16th. My brother gave me a great birthday gift this year.

I have been to a few concerts at The Fillmore and I really enjoy the venue. No matter where you stand, you always have an amazing view. I find it to get a little bit sweaty/crowded downstairs, so if you like a more quiet and spacious area, watch the concerts from the balcony. They have tables and chairs and a bar up there. The best part about The Fillmore is you get a great poster from the concert after the show.

The Fillmore is the best place to see live music in San Francisco. They get great bands and since the main floor is standing room only, you can get a good view from many different spots. There are two bars downstairs and two upstairs so you never have to fight for a drink. Food is offered upstairs and the neighborhood boasts several great restaurants. Did I mention the purple chandeliers and free apples? Don't leave early or you'll miss the famous Fillmore concert poster!

This is one of my favorite venues. There is such a history to this place, and most artists are genuinely excited about playing here. There's also decent food available upstairs -- not wonderful or cheap, but much better than what you will find at many concerts! At the end of the show, the staff hands out posters to everyone at the exits. This means it takes a while to get out of here, but on the plus side you have a terrific souvenir from the show!

The Fillmore is a old school venue where a lot of show case concerts are starting to make a come back. It's style of entertaining while the audience are on their feet is bound to have you calling for Dr. Schultz. Other then that the place is nice parking sucks but it's a nice place to have a nice venue showcase.

I've been the venue for a couple concerts. Each time I really enjoyed attending. I like the fact you can feel close to the performers no matter where you stand. Plus, you have your pick of a number of vantage points, whether on the floor or on the balcony. Since the place has pictures of past performers all over, I could get a sense of the historical relevance of The Fillmore as a music venue. I'm looking forward to next time I go.

Pros: Historical, personal

The BEST concert venue ever. I have attended two concerts at The Fillmore and they were the most memorable experiences! The Fillmore offers general admission to all concerts they host allowing the attendees to really see their favorite artist(s) up-close and personal. Besides the non-stop pushing and shoving throughout the entire concert and the countless times your feet get stepped on, inside, the The Fillmore is very elegant-looking and an overall good time.

The staff micro-managed the guests, constantly saying, "you can't stand there/please move to the side/etc." I have never felt like such a child! Even if the directions were in the interest of safety/fire safety and making sure people can get drinks, there must be a better way to ensure this than hounding guests and contstantly reprimanding us for standing too long by the bar, talking to another guest in the wrong place, and so on. If they could have they would have put hats on us and made us sit in the corner for time-out. l It really put a damper on our overall experience at the Fillmore.
P.S. Maybe the Fillmore should pay more attention to all the guests smoking the grass in the venue than guests standing for too long at the bar!

Pros: Draws great musicians

Cons: Rude babysitters

I went to Tesla last night and they rocked, but they did not give out posters which was not fair. Ithought every event gave out posters?

Yes, great bands play at the Fillmore because of its history. However, there's nothing great about it other than the bands. You can't hear the performances because the ceilings are so high and they don't have adequate sound baffling. Drinks are sky high and teeny tiny. But the worst thing about the Fillmore are the ex and future convicts who 'run' security. They're rude, shamelessly flirt with women (making them uncomfortable), and most importantly, will brutally attack a man for little or no reason. It's disgusting. Do they break up fights? Usually no, they'll let guys yell and shove each other until someone is actually hurt or on the floor. They will START a fight, however, and team up on anyone unlucky enough to have come to the show alone. I yelled something supportive to a performer recently and he responded favorably. Next thing I knew three security thugs had yoked me around the neck and were dragging me out. I'm disabled and told them so but they didn't care. I just filed assault charges with SF's least finest (aka SFPD) who didn't seem to care, but I've read many reviews about how jerky the security is. Never believed it til now. I'm going to pursue those charges against the Fillmore security. They have no business hiring people like that and no right letting them assault sober customers without cause. Do yourself a favor and stay away from that place until they drastically change their security policies, which currently seem to allow criminal behavior from those who should be protecting the audience, not assaulting members of it.

Pros: Some times its the only place to a certain great music act

Cons: The security are thugs. NEVER go alone whether man or woman

First show I've been to in a while and my first time to The Fillmore. We had a good time. The band was great (but maybe a little loud). But you know what they say, "If it's too loud. You're too old!" Lol - guess I'm getting a bit older. The crowd was good and the security/servers/bartenders were nice enough. One criticism besides the volume, is that it was pretty expensive to drink. Would I go back? Yeah, probably if the right ticket came around.

Good God! Where in the world did they hire the security guys from? From the street? They look like the mob and act like the mob. There was this big stupid,drunk/high guy in the crowd who was rubbing the girls around him and despite my multiple complaints to the "security" they didn't do anything!
One of them was actually drinking! I couldn't believe it! He put the glass down and said he was gonna come to remove him, which of course he never did. The other one said: I don't see him doing that!
Maybe they didn't want to go to him because
he was one of them, or he was big and they were scared.
Needless to say my friend and I had to move to another section to stay away. I am not going back to this place.

I agree with the previous reviews regarding sound quality. The drinks are too expensive. The place is too crowded. Worst of all, the obnoxious bouncers. They just yell at peopleand push them around for no reason but disappear if there is real help needed.

Not reccomended for any music fans. The room is too big, the sound is terrible. The booking agent clearly doesn't care about music and only books flavor-of-the-month acts that will sell a lot of tickets. Worse by far are the staff who are rude, uppity, incompetent and seem to think their job as bounces or ushers at this "storied" auditorium is the equivalent of a MENSA membership. Newsflash: you're a glorified ticket taker. The guy making you a milkshake at McDonald's doesn't cop an attitude so neither should you

I have tons of great memoris from the Filmore. Over the years I've been lucky enough to see hundreds of bands at this venue. It's cozy, but not too small. There is an upstairs balcony that runs the whole perimeter of the show floor. Nice vantage point if you don't like to be knee-deep in the crowds. Check out the upstairs bar area, they have an incredible collection of framed concert posters. I promise you'll enjoy the show!

This is a very good club. It is clean and doubles as a great bar and restaurant. I was here to see Rooney and it was such a great experience because I got really close to the stage and I could see them.

PROS: The seats on the top floor have great views of the bands.
CONS: If you're on the floor, it's hard to see the performer.

I saw Sleater-Kinney play here a couple of years back and the band was great, but the club only added to the experience. The Filmore has a very intimate feel and I really love the ambience. Even though its a medium-sized venue, you still feel very close to the artists. The lighting and chandeliers on the ceiling especially added to the appeal.

the venue is a sf landmark. to know how many great artists have played here, gives me the goose bumps. been there a few times, the live shows have been great. the acoustics are not the best, but a lot depends on who is playing and the crowd. i have to agree, the exit sucks and is a pain...but still worth it!

First of all, Bill Graham is gone with new owners in his name only. The only great thing that is left is the building itself, which still manages to carry the old 60's vibe. However, the workers at the door entering have been known to be rude to patrons with a complete criminal type frisking before being allowed entrance. If you can put up with the rudeness at the door, you may be able to enjoy your favorite band inside. If the personnel must do a body search before entering, they could do it with a little respect with out the smart remarks. After all, we are paying their wage.

This is a great venue to see your favorite band. If you get there early enough you can grab a table upstairs or just grab some floor and wait. And if you're hungry, go get a free apple.
The major problem at the Fillmore is employee attitude. The people who work the doors are the rudest people I have ever seen. Every single show I go to at the Fillmore I hear at least one employee yelling something rude to a customer. If they hired a somewhat nicer crew to handle the doors this would be a perfect venue.

While the Fillmore is a music venue of significant historical value, it's value as a place to actually listen and watch music is marginal at best. The acoustics are poor, the seating options are terrible at best, and the views are frequently obstructed.

An AMAZING place to see a show! We went to Marianne Faithfull and it was my first time in the Fillmore even though I have lived here for 14 years(I know hard to believe). The Fillmore has an unrivaled collection of memoribilia that takes you back to all the shows you've ever seen (anywhere)! Maybe it was the show we were at , but the door staff, ushers, security, and bar staff were beyond friendly! All the rooms, balconies, and gen admission areas make for perfect concert viewing. The Fillmore spoils you! This is the only place to see a show!!! Oh yeah, Marianne Faithfull blew us away too!!!

I've always had a lot of fun, but what is with the conglomeration at the end? Can we have one more door? how about opening the emergency exits to get people out, just like they do in old movie theathers? The coat check could be moved somewhere else that is not in the middle of the exit, so those people without coats can get out.

Back in the day, when you could see Janice or the Dead for a buck, and going to a show was all about "making the scene," an empty hall like this was probably an ideal place to see shows. Now that tickets cost $25 to $50, it's hard to justify the fact that everybody has to stand. There are a very few seats in the balcony, but those are almost always taken at least an hour before current time.
