This aquarium is a great stop for those with kids. Not very large, it provides a wonderful opportunity to get an upclose look at local marine life. Visitors can get their hands wet in the touch tank and see baby sharks in the shark nursery. Stop by on a Friday and join in as staff feed the residents.

Kids are free with a suggested donation of $5 for adults (minimum donation of $2 requested)

Amazing place to go. Especially if you have kids. I love the fish, colors and atmosphere. The employees are helpful and patient, which is needed...especially if you have kids with you.

The aquarium is a nice and informative. There are usually college students helping out which is great for kids of all ages. Please stop by when you are in the area.

Though it's not as large as the Monterrey Bay Aquarium nor as charming as the Steinhard , this small aquarium is a nice place to visit. Because it's goals are more towards education than providing an "amusement', their displays are quite informative. Volunteers here are usually college students from nearby universities, so they're friendly and good with kids. It's also a great walk from the Third Street Promenade if you want to make a day of it!

Every year I take my nephews to the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and they always have a great time. Even as they get older it always manages to hold their interest. You can get so up close with these sea animals it almost feels like you're inside the tank and living in their world, it's awesome! It's always fun to hang out at the pier but I feel like I've missed something if I don't get a chance to goto the aquarium.

PROS: Fun and informative
CONS: Can get very crowded at times

The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is a nice little aquarium to visit if you are ever at the Santa Monica Pier. They have 3 touch tanks there that are fun for kids and adults alike allowing for actual one-to-one contact with sea urchins, sea cucumbers, snails, and kelp. You can also see what kinds of sea creatures are living in the Santa Monica bay in their big tank.

I've been to the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium a couple of times now with my kids. The place is pretty nice and the staff are friendly and willing to answer questions. My kids really enjoyed the touch tanks where you can touch the sea creatures like star fishes, sea cucumbers, sea urchins. And they have three of these touch tanks there too.
