This church is so incredible. I went to the 5 pm mass two weeks ago and the band was so phenomenal they brought me to tears at least five times. My favorite saint is St. Francis because of he chose a life of poverty and abandoned his wealth and the priest's homily was so well aligned to the saint's life. All this not to mention that the community is beautifully diverse and the mosaic behind the alter is awe-inspiring.

Yes, as it is mentioned in all the other reviews, St. Francis is a beautiful church-visually. However the beauty for me, as well as thousands of others over the years, has been the practice of the Friars there to dispense the sacrament of confession all throughout the day, everyday. It is made so accessible.

If you are imperfect as am I, it is a place to seek God's mercy often, to unburden yourself in confession, renew a purpose of amendment and receive Christ in the Eucharist during one of the many Masses offered there; or a sanctuary where one can find someone to just listen.

Back in the early 1960's, my mother would drive her step mother from our home in Queens to St. Francis for Benediction. The traffic was awful but my mother never complained even though she had a few "issues" with her step-mother. Whenever I am in New York, I must go to the statue of St. Francis and of course touch the statue's heel. I do this and remember my step grandmother and my mother whom I hope are watching over me. It is a peaceful place, very inviting. Does anyone know the age of this church? It looks like it was built in the 1950's. Please advise.

Thank you.

St Francis is a beuatiful church in Manhattan. One of the things that stand out in my mind about this church is the stained glass memorial to 911 with the firefighter and angels.

This Church of St. Francis of Assisi is just in one word: beautiful. If you need a quiet place to just think and be with yourself, this is the right place. It is also in a great location- not far from P. station. There have a lot of fun events every weekend, including music concerts and more. Check out their event calendar on the main door to get more information about upcoming events. This church is very Recommended!!

Tucked away on a side street near Penn Station, St. Francis is an oasis of calm in the heart of Manhattan. It has lovely stained glass windows and there is always a quiet spot inside.

If you are looking for a great Roman Catholic Church, look no further! This church is run by Franciscan friars and is a welcoming place. There are tons of masses every day and on weekends. There is music at most masses. The building itself is gorgeous with an intricate mosaic at the altar. There is also a memorial to 9-11. There are many services provided by the church community and an active parish life.

PROS: Great place to worship and become involved
CONS: None
