Hands down, the San Diego Zoo is one of the best zoos in the U.S. I have been to many zoos and they are the most unique and most friendly staff bunch yet. I loved going here as a kid and even enjoy it more as an adult. The price is affordable and if you are vacationing in San Diego, don't leave without going to the zoo first. You will not be disappointed.

Zoo ruined summer nites with terrible show.
by Kevin M.
Summer Nights is ruined by the lame and boring bird show. My GF and I are San Diego Zoo members. We spent many, many nights there last summer, and enjoyed closing it out each time with the excellent show in the Hunte Amphitheater. As winter drug on we looked forward to when it would again be night time zoo time.
We went to the opening and were so disappointed. I thought, so that's what the desk jockey's that run the zoo think of me - the customer. We went back a week later and we could see that this was going no where. Bird shows at best are lame. This bird show is lost. It is like an embarrassing rehearsal of a 2nd grade play, and even the host claims that it will improve. I doubt that it will, and even if it did, I don't want to be the test audience.
We have now turned our attention to Sea World. They have an incredible deal going right now. The Silver Pass offers free parking (a $12.00 value) and 26 months of unlimited entrance for only $150.00. We have gone twice now and will not look back at the zoo until they feature a good show. We are telling this to all of our friends, relatives and co workers also.

The zoo is a great place to take people who are visiting from out of town. It is relatively cheap compared to sea world, and much more fun. A ticket is around $30 and well worth it when you see the size of the zoo!

The SD Zoo is amazing. Their exhibits are so neat to walk through, you forget where you are. With all the hills it can be a good work-out though if you decide to skip the bus tours and only walk.

Amazing Place

I love visiting this place! I have to agree with what others say that it is the most beautiful zoo anywhere. It is not only great for the opportunity to see all these amazing animals but also a perfect place to walk around for exercising. What a way to keep in shape!! I have always found the grounds very clean, and the staff helpful and friendly.
No wonder people from all the world love to visit the SD Zoo!!

The San Diego Zoo is constantly being renewed with special exhibits and programs. Different kinds of programs are offered throughout the year. Last week my wife and I enjoyed a "Sunrise Surprise Stroll". It was a guided walk, 7:30-9:00am, giving us adults an up-close, behind the scenes look before the zoo opened to the public. We were a group of about 30 people with a very enjoyable funny guide who knew the Zoo inside out. We went to two locations and talked to the keeper at each. I have been going to the Zoo for years but this really was fun and opened a whole new dimension. The keepers are highly trained professions with years of experience and love their job. If you are interested in this guided tour act quickly because those 30 openings fill up fast. Tell them CitySearch sent you. Did you know that the plant collection at the zoo is actually more valuable than the animals? Check out the web logs by the zoo's horticulturists, arborists, and gardeners. I've been a member of the zoo for many years. It's one of the best bargains in San Diego. You get free admission for a whole year and many others things. My wife and I go just when the zoo opens, walk for about 4 hours and then leave for some other activities. A membership is a very enjoyable way to start a Saturday. www.sandiegozoo.o... Oh, and by the way, TripAdvisor just voted our "San Diego Zoo" as the #10 U.S. tourist attraction. (Sure, I know! Why not #1?) It's in good company: Orlando, Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas, Hana Highway Maui, Grand Canyon, Central Park, Alcatraz, Top of the Rock Observation Deck NY, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Bellagio Fountains Las Vegas.

I have never enjoyed visiting a zoo like I did at San Dieago Zoo. It is HUGE and because it is so big they provide a bus service throughout the zoo. My favorite is the polar bear exibit. There were 2 polar bears living in this particular exibit. Their exibit had huge blocks of ice their own pool. Each of the animals that are housed in the zoo lives exactly how they would live in their natural habitat. We got to see a baby panda bear that was only a few months old. I could of spent another day here just to make sure I didnt miss anything

San diego zoo is one of the most famous in the country and lives to its reputations. The collection of animals here is amazing. They also have one of the few giant pandas in the country and have a special program going on for conservation of pandas. The zoo routes are well designed and well maintained . There are few other rides, snack shop is great and you can buy some pretty souvenirs from the gift shop

Ok Zoo

The San diego zoo is kind of ok and overhyped. There are some nice animals on display like the panda bear which are not displayed elsewhere but overall they have fewer animal exhibits and we found more humans than animals in this area. The restaurents in the zoo are quite expensive too.

The San Diego Zoo is by far the best in the nation and perhaps the best in the world. One of only two locations in the United States with giant pandas, this zoo has truly earned its world famous reputation. Visiting not only allows you to see amazing animals in extremely well engineered habitats, but your admission, food, and souvenir purchases help to support zoological research that will save these animals in the wild.
