The Jewelry Exchange is friendly and helpful!

by Trudy S.

I was very happy with the service! My husband bought a 3 stone past, present and future ring and it is stunning! I brought it back the same day because it was not the right size, as my husband had bought the one from the case. I told the salesperson that I wanted to have it for later on that evening as we were going to a party. They had it ready and looking beautiful! I even told my future son-in-law about this store and he went and got both the engagement and wedding ring for my daughter, and the service was superb! We are very happy with the store, the service and the quality!!

The Jewelry Exchange is to be avoided at call costs!

by k d.

Horrible place. Service was awful. When I was there I actually saw them drop a diamond ring on the ground (on tile mind you), pick it up and hand it the young lady like it was no big delay. You can imagine her reaction at seeing her engagement ring that was being re-sized hit the ground before she even put it on and she was livid.

The stuff they advertise for so cheap on the commercials are the worst possible stock. Defects in the diamonds like spots, cracks, etc. You get what you pay for.

They did a horrible job placing a diamond I had bought into a new setting. The prongs were uneven and the diamond looked it would fall off at anytime. I argued with the woman at the counter for 10 minutes who was trying to tell me that this was normal! I finally got half my money refunded (I just wanted to get it over with and get it fixed somewhere else) and left there in a huff.

Avoid this place at all possible costs and go somewhere else - you may pay a little bit more but you will be so glad you did.

about jewelry exchange

by agnieszka s.

wow, after reading all the reviews, I see 3 out of 10 satisfied. I only wanted to go there to sell my gold jewelry, but at this point I am not comfortable to sell my jewelry to them, just to be ripped off.

Hatters

by marg h.

The place is as advertised! Many bargains! Went
there on a Sunday to find bigger diamond for my
ring! The salesman (nick) was very patient with
me and after I looked at 20 diamonds and spent
a good hour with him, he was still very patient! I
would have already told me to go home! Only
problem I had was managers coming over and
trying to help. My diamond is beautiful and it
appraised for much more than I bought it for!
Thank you Jewelery exchange!

The Jewelry Exchange rip off

by Makalauskas M.

wow yes whose guys are really not friendly hope they will close soon , cheap rings, look at quality , so bad ,don't look at small diamonds diamond value starts 1ct + and it should be cut perfect . clear . and color and you never find in any store really perfect diamond just because they make money from you. if you really need nice diamonds there is many whole sale diamonds online for half price when in store and more perfect :) don't be fooled

The Jewelry Exchange is a rip off

by Margo H.

This place is a rip-off. All they sell is the cheapest, worst quality, and try to do a bait and switch. I have seen their insulting TV commercials for years, and always wondered why their prices seem so low. So I went to the store and was pressured to "move up" to the higher priced items, which are no bargain. Yes the do have cheap diamonds, but they are BROWN! If you want diamonds that look good (or gold that isn't ultra-cheap 10k plated) you have to spend considerably more... Do yourself a favor. Avoid! Go to the reputable jewelry stores that only sell quality merchandise at a fair price. I don't like these come-on techniques that get you into the store with a bargain that seems to good to be true, and then, of course, it isn't what it seemed. By the way, why isn't the attorney general looking into their deceptive advertising techniques? There is NO WAY that the merchandise they show on TV as selling for just a few hundred dollars is the same as the crap they show you in the store for the same price.

The Jewelry Exchange is great!!

by Kate S.

I went to the jewelry exchange to buy my engagement ring. After looking at several story, i finally found a place i felt comfortable in. They were helpful and personable. We were looking to spend around $8,000 total and the sales person actually undersold me. I could not be happier. For those who have had bad experiences, it is likely that you are difficult and that you know nothing about jewelery. Ignorant people are great to watch!! I recommend checking it out. I will always be loyal customer.

Well, I was excited. . .

by Betsy R.

My now fiance and I went and picked out my loose diamond back in February. JE was listing the price at $3900. It was a 1 CT, Radiant cut, D Colored stone that would supposedly retail for $9100.00 alone according to their little GIA Certification. We were so excited to find such a beautiful diamond. We finally were able to find a setting that we liked and after that my fiance did everything on his own. I was prosed to recently and went to get my ring appraised so I could have it insured. Well, let me tell you how disgusted we were when the ring appraised for LESS than it was paid for. Yet all our sales rep did was RAVE about what a great diamond we were getting for the price, and we have our appraiser tell us we ripped off and shouldn't have paid more than $3000.00 for the stone. Granted it was only ONE appraisal and the appraiser had NO idea where we bought it from, but I'm not suprised. Yes the color is flawless but we're being told the diamond itself is just poorly cut. And their advertisement about their items appraising for DOUBLE. . make sure you read the small print b/c it's only gauranteed on anything purchased under $3000.00 and doesn't include loose stones.

Worst "Jeweler" out there

by John S.

Unfortunately, the only way to really describe this outlet is "worthless."The absolute -only- thing I can recommend to do at this Jewelry Exchange is to buy a loose stone for a decent price and go somewhere else to have it set. I will NEVER again have any of the "jewelers" at this location touch any of our jewelry.Cliff Notes: Brought in brand new already purchased engagement ring from somewhere else; chose a 3/4ct princess cut stone to be set in the ring I already had.Their 'expert' Tony, set the stone 4 times and it was awful each time. Everyone at the store tried blaming anything and everything else except the complete lack of any skill that this Tony guy had. He really belongs in a junk jewelry store slopping cheap gold or silver together (you know the kind of jewelry that little kids wear and trash or lose).I gave up on this place and took the ring to a real jeweler. They were extremely disturbed at the quality of the work performed. Aside from the fact that the setting was off-center, crooked, and uneven, the 'expert' Tony at the Jewelry Exchange chipped a corner of my diamond off when trying to set it and one of the prongs wasn't even making any contact with the stone. The quality Jeweler I had examine the ring said the stone was loose and would likely continue to damage itself moving around or fall out. "Looks like a real amateur didn't know what they were doing." I found that statement odd since the counter clerks at the Jewelry Exchange kept on raving about the amazing work that Tony can do.Please, stay away from this place. If you absolutely must go, just buy a stone and go somewhere else.

Go here if you like being ripped off!

by Melissa P.

This is a terrible company. The diamond I purchased was NOT the diamond I picked up with carbon spots on it! And they will NOT for any reason refund your money. Be very careful with these people, I dont reccomend going here unless you dont really care about getting quality service.

Do NOT go here!

by Kelly Z.

never go here, they are a rip off and they are not friendly. I got a pair of diamond studs from there for christmas and they looked like a cheap version of cubic zirconia, complete with black spots inside. We paid extra to have screw backs put on them. When I took them back to the store, they have a no money back policy so I had to find something else of theirs and since the screw backs were an upgrade to the earrings we could not use the additional cost in the exchange. I could not find a decent pair of diamonds in that place, they were all flawed. I ended up finding a ring. the guy at the store sized it wrong, which I knew but he insisted I get the bigger size to fit over my knuckle and now the ring is too big. I called the store and the lady was so rude to me and suggested it was my fault the ring is sized wrong, and their might be a charge to get it resized...I will go somewhere else and pay for quality service!

poor work quality, poor customer service, DON'T GO.

by Anonymous

We paid a hefty price for a quality diamond and got it set in an expensive setting only to be completly disappointed. The diamond was too big for the setting and almost fell out. Then, they reset it into a 6 prong setting, off-centered and not buffed down. The customer service was horrible too. Now, 8 years later, I'm having the whole setting changed. Poor quality, period.

Poor Settings,Poor Service,Poor customer who buys Here

by Anonymous

I wanted to buy my wife a diamond anniversary band and the jewelry exchange was within driving distance.Despite waiting a long time for someone to wait on us (later arriving customers were waited on first)I thought our problems ended there....Wrong!, they just started. My wife was happy and excited about our purchase until we got home and THREE(yes count them, three) diamonds fell out within the first hour home.We drove back...Another wait, another ring...more diamonds fell out..total frustration.Thank God I put this ring on a credit card because we were assured that we were financially covered for our dissatisfaction-It took a while for the store to refund our purchase.Never again will I buy there. If your going to spend hard earned money you probably want a quality item to show for it;Look beyond the Jewelry exchange. Perhaps the name "Jewelry Exchange" reflects exchanging poor quality purchases or perhaps it should be called the "Jewelry Return"

stones that fall out, cracks hidden under setting

by Anonymous

2 months out of warranty and wouldn't you know it a diamond falls out. When I returned to the store they claimed they would have to send the item out for the repair and I wouldn't be able to choose the diamond but just trust that they would match it well. I refused and wanted it fixed in house but the rep claimed they only had one loose stone in near the size and the diamond was .33 and they were showing me a .26 which had a tiny table top compared to the existing other matching stones (I thought they had massive amounts of loose diamonds on hand isnt that the point of going to their store). They were extremely unhelpful and insulted my intelligence. I used to sell diamonds, this was awful customer service and this company does not stand behind their product. We finally decided to take the ring to Jared Jewelers where they fixed the ring. Upon opening up the channel setting they found that the center stone had a giant crack in it hidden under the side of the channel setting. They explained how the setting was made extremely poorly and how it was going to keep losing diamonds if we didn't change it. ALL IN ALL; only buy lose stones from the jewelry exchange, know what you are buying and looking at, do not buy anything already made or in a setting. Take the loose stone to another store or a remount show and have the ring made that you want where the setting will actually hold the stone/s and you won't end up spending all the money you saved in the first place replacing stones w/ hidden damages and or lost stones. PS, Jared did a fabulous job and I will not shop anywhere else for the rest of my life.

To All Who May Shop Here - GO TO THE MALL!

by Anonymous

My finance also went out and bought my engagement ring from the Jewelry Exchange in Villa Park and it has been an absolute nightmare! Deja Vu strikes in my tale here as I have also been through the same situations that are outlined below. The baguettes on the sides of the rings began to shift in the setting due to the horendous job that was done when they sized the ring. We took it back to the store to see if they could fix it and they offerred to make me another ring. Since this is my engagement ring I of course wanted something similiar to the original so we agreed to have them fix it. When the new setting came in the diamonds looked okay on the sides of the ring; however, they refused to set my center stone while I was in the store. They instead told me I would have to come back the following day to pick up the ring. Since I live in the very South Suburbs this was nearly next to impossible and couldn't return until the next weekend. When I returned, the center stone that they had set was not fully soderred onto the ring and looked as if it would pop off at any second. I refused to take the ring and again, they stated they could not set the diamond while I waited. Finally I was able to get my ring back after many weeks of going rounds with these people. Now, a little more than a month later the same thing is happening. Again, the diamonds are falling out of setting. To all who may shop here - go to the mall. Don't waste your time, money, energy, or sanity on this place. They will continue to advertise low prices; however, they have no quality to back up that advertisement. Go to Kay or Zales where you can at least return the ring if something of this maginitude happens to you as well.

They don't back up their work.

by tom w.

The Jewelry Exchange in Villa Park does sell jewelry at very fair prices, but they will never get my business again. I purchased a ring for my wife and we were happy with it, however less than two months after we bought it, the ring came apart where it had been sized. The store claimed that my wife must have damaged the ring but that was not the case. They wanted to charge $30 to fix it, we declined the offer and complained. Jewelry Exchange then said that there are no guarantees when a ring is sized. Bad treatment of customers does not equal repeat business or word of mouth advertising.

Good diamond at reasonable price

by Barry S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,096

We bought several jewelry from this store years ago, back when the store was still in downtown Elmhurst. So far we have been very happy with our purchase. If you want to buy one big solid diamond, I've found their price to be the lowest compared to other jewelry store in Chicago andsurrounding suburb. We bought a solitaire ring from here and was appraised 3 times in price downtown. However, if you only want to shop small diamonds, they are just about the same in price as others.

the commercial was right

by kathlina a. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,528

the only reason i wanted to go here is because i see this commercial like twenty times a day. so my husband took me because i had been wanting some diamond stud earrings and they always seem to have good deals on just that. we went there and the place is really big. they have so many different kinds of stud earrings. i had a hard time choosing which ones i wanted. the people who work there take there time with you so that in the end you will be satisfied with your decision, and i was. and the prices were so great. i got my diamond stud earrings at a fraction of the price i would have paid somewhere else. trust me i know because i have been looking around and doing research for a while now and they do have the best prices around.

PROS: best prices around
CONS: none

Engagement Ring Fiasco

by Joy C. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,728

We bought my engagement ring from the Jewelry Exchange in Villa Park, IL and from the beginning, we were disappointed. It took 3 weeks to find out that the original setting that they had ordered was lost in the mail, and another 3 weeks to get the replacement setting in the store.

On our honeymoon, the ring broke where they had sized it. We had to store it in the hotel safe until we could get it home. When we took it in, they soldered it back together, and the next day, one of the side stones fell out. 3 weeks later, they had the new mount and I finally had my ring back. The new setting has defects that they claim are from normal wear and tear, but the appraiser told us they are defects from when the ring was poured into the mold.

They also guarantee that your jewelry will appraise for double what you paid for it, which is a baldfaced lie. I would never buy from them again, and if you want quality jewelry, you should go elsewhere.

PROS: They sell quality diamonds at a reasonable price.
CONS: They have a horrible warranty.
