1 Stars: Worst Denistry for kids EVER! (by w l.)

I know from work experience that this place is very very bad! Don't bring your kids here. All of the Dr.'s are horrible to the children, yes it looks sooo nice and comforting with all the toys and Tv's but they don't let the parents go into the back for one reason and that reason is so that they can torture, tease and yell at the kids! I would never ever bring my kids to this office and besides all of the Dr's are very arrogant and nasty to the employees!

5 Stars: Berman Marvin H Dentistry for Kids is great!! (by Mary B.)

My son has been a patient of Dr Cissy for 11 years. We have always been very pleased with the practice and found all of the dentists to be very professional and caring. I found it interesting that several of the reviews about Dr. Berman on this site indicate they switched to another dentist (Resnick). Hmmm.

5 Stars: VERY PLEASANT EXPERIENCE FOR US (by Nevenka T.)

I have been taking my daughter to this practice since she was 2 1/2 (she is now 6 1/2). Her dentist is Dr. Furusho and I must say that we are extremely pleased with the dentist and the service received. My daughter actually looks forward to going to the dentist!! From reading the other reviews I see some parents didn't like the fact of being separated from their child during the exam. I too at first was a bit weary, but I did learn that my daughter did much better not having us in the room. I then did read in some parenting magazines that it's actually a good idea for the parents not to be in exam rooms with children because they tend to become more anxious, etc. I also noticed the awful reviews pertaining to Dr. Berman. We've never had him as a dentist so I can't comment on him- I can only comment on Dr. Furusho and she is AMAZING.All-in-all we love the practice!!

4 Stars: Good place for us (by Jen K.)

We've been going to Dr. Berman for a couple of years, since my daughter turned 4. The experience has been very pleasant so far, and many families in my neighborhood highly recommend going here. The kids are taken from the parent initially - which is probably scarier for the parent, quite frankly. Go check out the office yourself before making an appointment if you have any concerns.

1 Stars: INCOMPETENT AND SCARY--Find someone else! (by Nancy H.)

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. This man is not only mean, arrogant, obsessed with his "excellent" credentials and 40 years of experience, he is also incompetent as a dentist. Our child needed dental sealants but this simple treatment never occurred to Dr. Berman (see below)--he merely preferred to yell at us, accusing us of "rotting" our child's teeth.

I should have known something was up when the absolute first thing out of the mouth of the receptionist was, "You must be aware that we will SEPARATE you from your child. That is best for their behavior, if we take them away from their parents." I have a child with special needs. He was very clingy as a 3 year old and could barely talk due to his disability. They would not listen to ANYTHING I had to say, because, of course, they are "experts" with 40 years of experience, etc. etc. They literally dragged him out of my arms as he was sobbing.

My son's disability/disorder causes weak tooth enamel, especially in the baby teeth. At age 3, he suddenly developed cavities, which we later learned is very common for kids with the syndrome that he has. But Dr. Berman, being the "expert" proceeded to browbeat both my husband and me about proper dental care, accused us of rotting our child's teeth by giving him fruit juice, etc. After we had had enough of his arrogance, ill treatment of our son, and etc. we decided to take our son to Dr. Resnick, whom we found to be just the opposite, wonderful, patient, and gentle. Dr. Berman does not believe in nitrous oxide to calm a very fearful child. Dr. Resnick did give my son a very light dose and let us stay with him and hold his hand. It really helped. Our son went from hysterical screaming to calmly sitting for his cavity work. And, we learned that there is such a thing as DENTAL SEALANTS, which can prevent cavities in kids with weak tooth enamel. Since Dr. Resnick treated our son's teeth with sealants, he has had no more cavities and he is now 12.

But, that isn't the last of it. After we switched to Dr. Resnick, Dr. Berman began making harrassing personal phone calls to me at home, demanding to know why we were switching dentists, badmouthing Dr. Resnick, accusing us of being bad parents, and etc. It was awful. After 9 years I remember this like it was yesterday, and I can't think of anything good to say about Dr. Berman except he is old so maybe he will retire soon.

1 Stars: Scarred for Life (by Terri C.)

I am a former patient of Dr. Berman, now an adult with two children of my own. Marv had a great song & dance with the parents, letting patients play piano for him and putting our photos on his wall...but as soon as they got you back in the chair away from parents, it was nothing short of torture. I distinctly remember him pulling a permanent tooth when I was about 10 years old and I was terrified of the novicane shot and cried out of fear. Instead of calming me down with words, he nastily kept telling me that each time I cried he would give me another shot, which of course made me cry more. He was MEAN, as were several of his hygenists!! My brother and cousins had similar experiences that made us all terribly fearful of going to the dentist. Fortunatly, my children go to a wonderful, patient pediatric dentist named Thomas Resnick in Northbrook.

5 Stars: brush those teeth! (by alex p.)

I took my kid to this place for dental work several times, and he loved it. In the waiting room there is a playground, where kids can climb, build forts, etc. There are also two TVs that constantly play great childrens movies and a really basic video game machine. In the office itself, there are stuffed animals and TVs everywhere, and the masks the dentists wear have clown faces painted onto them. In short, this place will make your kid love going to the dentist.

4 Stars: Kids scared of the dentist? Dr. Berman is the solution! (by Bina V.)

Ok, nobody I know likes to go to the dentist! But my five year old son is absolutely terrified! We have tried taking him to our family dentist, but he freaks out the moment we walk in the door, and it is impossible for them to do a thorough check up, due to his fear and stubbornness!!! We tried a couple other pediatric dentists, to no avail. But Dr. Berman, obviously, has a lot of experience in working with children. He is so much more than a dentist! He is able to put my son at ease. We are so thankful for, not only the great oral care he gives our son, but also the fact that he is helping my son to be more relaxed in those situations in general. He also gives us lots of tips on how to keep our son interested in brushing, the best products to use to prevent decay and answers any questions we have willingly!
