As a former employee at this company, I would have to agree with Bill. Working conditions are horrible and unsafe. Floors and walls are dusty, dirty, and moldy. Water puddles remain on floors all shift, sometimes all day long. The proofers hardly ever get cleaned out of the fallen bagels from the racks. There's always something smelling like it's been dead for a month around the boiler area. The drain is the worse. Hot water leaks from boiler pipes, despite numerous reports to get it fix. Sanitation is very poor. Most days they have the production workers do the sanitation department's jobs. The product itself is not the greatest. I'm pretty confident that many bagels came in contact with other allergen ingredients or unclean surfaces. Workers step and climb over conveyer belts/lines. There are ALOT of improvised production parts, methods and more. Not safe and clean because of this.

And yes, there are a lot of illegals who work there. Obviously, if a person has worked there for 7 years and is only getting paid $10 to the hour, they are illegal - compared to a new legal employee who starts out at $11.50. About 95% of the employees are Hispanic. They are hard workers indeed but doing it illegally is just wrong. Everything posted on walls or boards are in Spanish. Not a lot of English speakers - even from the other Asian races that also work there. It was always a stressful and frustrating day at work due to the communication barrier. The leads and supervisors speak English fluently so that's helpful. The company offers no benefits whatsoever to its employees, we can see why.

The real bad rating to this company and its business is how they produce their product. Most workers are never supervised. Employees goof off all shift long. Scalers and mixers throw doughs back and forth in a dough fight. Workers don't wash hands often enough. All this being said, one can only imagine what the product is like. If you're a bagel lover, don't eat or buy from this company. I myself do not enjoy bagels as much but I will never ever support this business in that their products are not clean and safe as well as the working environment. Not professional at all. Ask any former employee and I can assure they will say the same things I am. I was relieved when they released me from my employment due to being sick for 3 days (because I over worked myself) despite having a doc's note.

This business gets half a star (if that is possible). Worse place to work at and for. Bad and unclean products. The hiring of illegals and paying minimum wages. OH! Almost forgot, and the horrible working schedule. Your days off were never the same every week. More power to the workers who are still working there "because they need it". Bottom line is" NOT PROFESSIONAL!!!

This company knowingly violates OSHA policy and endangers the lives of its workers. I have reason to suspect that it also employees illegal aliens in order to pay them minimum wage to worf in horrific working conditions.

It is now 2006, Twin City Bagels has grown from the small shop in Saint Paul to a National contender in the co packing business. They produce 50 to 80 thousand bagels an hour. The plant has grown in the last 5 years with automated lines. They make mini and large bagels for brands you buy all over the states here in South Saint Paul by the banks of the Mississippi. which also starts in Minnesota and crosses the country. enjoy
