I know this is my first review on insiderpages, but I am just wanting to let everyone know to stay away from Mt. America if you are doing a mortgage loan. We have been with Mt. America for years now. We have had two auto loans. A personal loan for school as well has many other accounts with them. During our home loan we have had the worst service and have been completely flat our disrespected when going through the process. After being told we would not have to pay anything and it was a 100% mortgage and that we would be able to close three weeks early. It is now a day after our official closing date and we have to come up with close to $3,500. This was never mentioned during the entire 2 month process to us until this day. So make sure you have plenty of savings to pay for hidden fees and last minute changes to your agreement. On Friday when supposed to be closing our mortgage person told us we would be able to close at 5pm and he would send the documents over to be signed. Around 5:30pm and not receiving any documents we called the branch to find out our mortgage guy just left and didn't handle anything at all on our last day to close. After multiple calls and a few messages to the Mortgage person. Nothing was completed and none of the calls or messages were answered. Very unprofessional! Lastly after messing up everything, surprise fees, extra payments, no notice, no follow up and missing our closing date. I had to contact them this morning in order to have anything started. Now we are waiting until 4pm today to close and will not fund and record until tomorrow. This may not be the worst story out there, but after being handled this way I would never want anyone to have to go through what we went through to buy a house. Look elsewhere

My wife and I have been members of the CU since 2004. They are awesome! Sometimes everyone has a bad day, so a smile is not always important. I can usually get one anyway, but they usually smile on their own. One day, after a particularly stressful financial period of time, I went to a branch for help in trying to get a loan. I was able to visit with the branch manager one on one and discussed my questions and concerns while he listened and asked questions and walked out of there with what I needed. You can bet we will do our best to continue to support Mountain America throughout our lifetime. We have even steered others in their direction.

After 10 years of banking with MACU my husband and I have decided to close our accounts due to the awful customer service we continue to receive. We find that we are being told different things from branch to branch as well as when calling the call center. I continue to be charged for things that are unexplainable and although I have explained I was told by a branch manager differently my account continues to go uncorrected. We have found that our payroll checks are being held, not all the time, only now and then so we can never really be sure of the exact policy. I DO NOT recommend Mountain America Credit Union to anyone and will share my concerns with all my friends and family in hopes that I may prevent them from dealing with the same issues and stress my husband and I have experienced while banking with MACU. Please be careful!

I have been a member of MACU for about 15 years.

I don't plan on ever switching either. They have always treated me well, and I have never had a problem with anything.

The employees are always very nice and helpful. They can usually answer any questions I may have, and always with a smile.

Keep up the good work.

I opened my Mount American Credit Union account because that's the preferred payment option for my AFLAC insurance. I was only told to have at least $25 balance to avoid service charges, so I when I found out about a $5 surcharge, I went to the bank to inquire about it. The employee at the bank was very rude and blamed me for not reading the terms and when I asked to see the manager, she told me I'd have to come back on Monday, because that's the only time the manager would be in. I went back on Monday and the manager was not nice either. She finally gave me the credit back but they have done enough to convince me that I don't need to deal with this kind of crappy customer service. Closed my account right away.
