II travel a lot. I have been to steakhouses in just about every major city in the US. Basically the food is great, but the service & ambience were disappointing. I wish I could have given it 5 stars, but there were enough flaws to warrant 4.
Pros:
Great steak, I had the Cowboy Cut Rib Eye. Great crab bisque. Complimentary and delicious mashed potatoes & creamed spinach. Great "craft" beers, I had the Hook & Ladder Backdraft Brown. Large wine selection. Reasonable prices. Complimentary peanut butter fudge after dinner. The D.O., Jamie, was terrific.
Cons:
On street parking. Difficult to find, and the girl that answered the phone was little help. Spartan atmosphere. Loud. Condescending hostesses, they're young & kind of dumb. (Those girls that should be working in a mall not a steakhouse.) The waitresses weren't in uniforms and weren't very helpful. No cocktails, just wine & beer.
What Ray??s the Steaks needs:
Older and smarter female hostesses. Attentive male waiters in uniforms. Soften the lighting. Warmer paint color. Less obtrusive area for waiting customers. Expand beer selection & detail each beer??s characters. Add basic cocktails, no need for fancy drinks, just the standards.
Suggestions:
Make a reservation. Go early in the evening if you can. Prepare to search for the location and hunt for a parking space. Order the crab bisque. Order your steak medium rare. Sip a delicious beer or glass of wine.

After a wine tasting event, my girlfriends and I went here for a quick, late night dinner. We didn't get there til 9:45 and it was a Tuesday night. However, they gladly sat us and provided quick service. With it being so late, I opted for a soup and salad. I don't like to eat huge meals that late at night. However, my girlfriend's were definitely starving. They both ordered steak dinners. While we waited, we munched on the spicy peanuts that were brought to the table. We had to get seconds within a few minutes. So good! Our meals were delivered in a timely manner and the portions were huge! So glad I stuck with the soup/salad. I did however taste the steak and it was very tender and juicy. The only options the server offered for sides were mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. They were brought out on cast iron skillets for the table to share. Even though you couldn't pick and choose, they were bottomless and very tasty. After the meal, small peanut butter/chocolate nuggets were delivered with the check. Perfect size for just a nibble of something sweet without ordering a whole dessert.

I loved the decor. It was bright, fresh and inviting. The location is also key. It's in Courthouse which is close to just about any kind of place you want ranging from bars, movies, to shopping.

I cannot wait to go back and actually order a steak! It'll definitely be sooner rather than later. If you're dying for a great steak at a great price, you must check out Ray's.

PS- Ray's Hell Burger across the street is amazing as well. Huge juicy burgers with tons of fresh toppings. Beware, it's cash only and can get super packed. But that place is worth a shout out too!

For my friend's birthday recently we decided to celebrate a fun Girls' Night Out doing dinner at Ray's the Steaks. I am continually hearing great things about this place and needed to try it out for myself. Let me start by saying.. you cannot go to this restaurant and not order the Crab Bisque. Its like dying and going to heaven. One of the best things I have had in a long time, its a must have on the menu. Follow that starter up with any of their steaks and you are golden. Although the prices may be a little high, its totally worth it for the meal. Each steak comes with a family style portion of potatoes (heaven) and creamed spinach. Not only is Rays the Steaks great for dates its a perfect place to celebrate any occasion. Make sure to make a reservation because they are packed, every night, all the time...and rightfully so!

Pros: Great Date Spot, Amazing Food

Cons: $$$

everyone raves about the steaks.....they are wet aged steaks that are over priced. I think Ray's has benefited from the placebo effect. Since everyone says its good, you assume it is good. Since everyone says its great prices, you assume its great prices. If someone tells you that you wont find a better steak don't ever listen to them about steak again. Go to Ruth's or Capital Grill if you want a nice dry aged steak that needs nothing but butter, salt, and pepper. Rays will try to mask their poor wet aged steak with sauces. A true steakhouse has no sauces.

Ray's has the best steaks in town. They recently moved to a new location and all of the issues regarding parking, ambiance, and over crowding have been resolved.

Pros: Great steaks

Cons: Tough to get reservations

The food at Ray's is wonderful and you will have plenty to take home. It usually takes a long time to get in but it is worth the wait. I would suggest getting their on the earlier side to prevent the long wait time. I do wish they took reservations.

Ray??s has good steaks at reasonable prices (definitely try the crab bisque if you go), but the dining experience was very unpleasant and made me wish I went elsewhere.

Parking, ambiance, and dcor are all non-existent, and although your food will come out very quickly (really, you??ll be surprised), you are expected (and reminded) to eat quickly and make room for waiting patrons. Be prepared to fight through crowds waiting at the door and endure shockingly rude service from the condescending hostesses. Arrive hours early to request a specific dining time (even though Ray??s ??doesn??t take reservations?) or be prepared to wait 2 hours (3 to 4 hours on Friday or Saturday) before getting a table.

Getting a reservation for this place took over a month. Yet, when I went with a group of friends, few of the steaks came the way they were ordered. The service was pretty slow, and the place was not cheap. It's a small place with few tables, and a steak house ambience that is enjoyable. However, I have heard rave reviews, so I would say it is worth a second try.

This place has one of the toughest reservations in town and it's easy to see why: They only have about a dozen tables and they serve the tastiest steaks just about anywhere. They age the beef and hand trim it on the premises. They do wonders with lesser-known cuts of beef and the classics shine like nowhere else. Forget the a la carte business that the chain steakhouses push on you; all of Ray's steaks come with delicious creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Try the scallops and key lime pie, too.

Located in a strip mall on Wilson Boulevard, Ray's offers well-aged steaks at affordable prices, and trims away all the fripperies that downtown steakhouses employ, all of which drive up their prices to sky-high tabs. Not at Ray's whereā€¦
