I am so glad I listened to everyone's reviews on the Aveda Institute and had my hair done there. I've gone to the highest of high end salons in NYC for over 25 yrs and this was the by far the best. (I did love my cut & color w/Garren at the Sherry Netherland but way too expensive these days!) You cannot beat the deal, and in this economy Aveda is the only deal. Jessica (luv u!) was wonderful! She cut my hair beautifully and actually left the length-you even get a little makeover at the end and let me tell you ladies, when I left Aveda at Spring Street everyone (even the ladies!) was checking out my hair. Could've lived w/o the pickup lines on my walk home, tho! Warning: Be prepared to sit there for 3 or more hours but it is well worth the wait but for that inconvenience & 20 bucks for cut & blowout, you will come out of there looking beautiful. Color is $10 additional, and I just might try that next time. Definitely go for it.

The reason that I've gotten my hair cut here? It's not the price because there are definitely cheaper alternatives elsewhere although their prices are reasonable for a haircut (less than $20 for a men's haircut). The service you receive is not bad, although I doubt people go there because of the excellent service. The haircut you get is again, of sufficient quality that you don't mind paying more than the cheapest haircuts out there. However, the best thing going for this place is the location, but that is probably only useful to you if you live nearby. But if you do, you may want to try them out when you're too lazy to go elsewhere.

i decide to be brave and try a new haircut. I went to Aveda because I heard it was only $18 for a hairstylist in training. The cut was nice and they have a teacher watching them at all time to more sure they didn't mess up. I would go back again but I didn't like some of the people there. I found some of the employees really snobby and they were trying really hard to push products onto me.

Average service for the haircut I got last month. A little pushy to sell their products. They charge a little too much for styling and haircut. The facility is modern and clean. But I dont think it is worth the price, esp. for mens haircut. Their product lines are pretty nice, and actually work as the advertisement.

PROS: Clean and easy to get apointment
CONS: Pushy sales

I came here to support my friend who was training to be a stylist. Basically, the place is a training center so you'll get a junior stylist who will practice and attempt to give you a good cut. Luckily, there's always a person watching from behind, but at this place, you really have to just trust the person who is cutting your hair. Cuts are very cheap because of the "training" sessions. I'd recommend if you're looking for a cheap cut and don't mind experimenting.

the Aveda Hair institute is a teaching center for students aspiring to be in beauty industry. But for outsiders its a great palce to get a cheap and good haircut. A student will cut and style your hair for only $18 - you do a consultation with them while they are being watched by a teacher, so there is always back up if nerves get the best of your amature stylist
