I am not a huge fan of sushi but my husband loves it. He has been to Japan on business several times and he loves Japanese food. This is where he likes to go when he is in the mood for sushi. There are many other options if you don't like sushi though. I myself usually get the tempura vegetables and udon noodles which is very good.

My son-in-law was raised in Japan, and he loves this place. The outside, a tired strip mall, doesn't look promising, but inside it is a small, pleasant bit of transplanted Japan. Service is leisurely but efficient, and prices seem quite reasonable.

If you like sushi, you can sit at the small counter area where you can watch the sushi chef and take suggestions from him for sashimi and sushi. Other offerings include tempura and teriyaki, and dinners combining various elements are also available. It's a casual but somehow wonderfully civilized place that I always enjoy very much.

PROS: Great sushi, good tempura and teriyaki, pleasant ambiance
CONS: In a strip mall, but you get over it

Izumi offers lots of good means--sukiyaki, katsudon, a nice sushi bar, nabe, on and on. These are all Japanese dishes, served with a true Japanese flavor (I lived in Tokyo for 2 years).

The taste is delightful, the staff consists of obaachans (older women) and is very friendly (although occasionally slow). The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is a bit off--the lighting is a bit dim, and the tables are a bit close together--but these are small concerns when enjoying your delicious Japanese cuisine.

Izumi is in the Totem Lake area, inside a boring strip mall. However, the decor is authentic and ambience is very cozy. Everytime I go there, I will ask the server for its daily special sushi menu. They carry quite a lot of specialties not found elsewhere, especially in winter when they have various whitefish and shellfish sushi.
