One of the best parts of sleepy Society Hill. It is funny that Rittenhouse Square residents have to schlep downtown to see a foreign flick.

One of my favorite theatres to go to. It has an intimate and welcoming setting and a charming concession stand, they play limited and wide releases films and independent films. It's a very nice place to go to in a nice atmosphere in one of my favorite places of the city to be here

With Hollywood ruining movies and theaters taking advantage of that, it was so great to find an unassuming theater that showed the movies I wanted to see. My girlfriend and I went here and saw There Will Be Blood when it first hit theaters, and it was a great time. They only have five theaters, and it's a bit more upscale than your usual movie house. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, during the movie, the well-dressed adult crowd actually paid attention and sat silently watching. There were no kids running around, no one screaming at the screen, no flood of people going back and forth for more popcorn. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.

Here's where you'll discover the hard-to-find movies, the ones that depend on great writing and acting, not special effects, ear-splitting sound, and more stunt people than actors. It's a class act and may it remain in this city for years to come.

If you are the type of person that is more sophisticated than the average american, that want to see much better movies than the ones produced in Hollywood, then this is the place to go. The will have the best and more succesful international movies and low budget movies. The cinema itself is special and different than the others, is just like going to a cinema from 20 years ago. The best stuff: you get real popcorns, no added butter.

PROS: Old fashion, best movies
CONS: None

I've lived in a lot of cities in the US and abroad & have never come across a better Indie cinema - they have impeccable taste in what they choose to screen, a great no-kid policy (none allowed under 6, under 16s have to be with a guardian), and the screening rooms are always very clean. Another bonus is that Wednesday is $6 all day, a great deal & a good way to motivate to make it out during the week. Their free monthly magazine Ritz Film Bill has very well-written reviews.

PROS: Great film selection, excellent facilities, Wednesday nights $6
CONS: None

independent movies are great in the theater too! too bad the giant chains don't want them. this place has foreign films, small independents, and the aura of a movie place from the 70s: the seats are smaller and there are no cup holders, but that's what makes it great. ambience-wise, this is a great date place - classy enough to make her think you're quite cultured, but still movie-theater enough to try out the old yawn and stretch maneuver.

PROS: movies that don't play elsewhere
CONS: none
