SEP 1 - Found and ordered a pet door that fits in windows. That day received an email that confirmed my order and stated that "most orders ship in two days...and if it will take longer than five days we will contact you."

SEP 9 - Still hadn't heard anything so wrote an email.

SEP 11 - No response to email, attempted to call in during their business hours and after waiting some time on hold ended up at a place where I could only leave a message. If I don't hear back from them tomorrow will cancel my order and retract my funds.

I don't find their response that we should complain through the BBB, a very cumbersome process for a consumer, comforting. Sure there aren't any complaints there, not many people use that route anymore.

The Thermo Panel III door I purchased is great, and Jon was a big help. All the information he gave me was correct, it just was not complete. The bug warden [which allows the sliding glass door to slide away from the dog door without letting bugs in] is white, a total contrast to the bronze dog door and and my sliding glass and screen doors. Also, there was also no mention of a maximum distance between the dog door and the screen for the bug warden to work. When installed according to the instructions, there is still a good quarter of an inch space that allows for bug entry. One of the main reasons for my purchasing this particular door was the increased airflow I was going to get in the summer by keeping the sliding glass door open. I primed and painted the bug warden and used duck tape to extend it, but it does not look or work all that great.

Jon, who runs The Pet Door Store, worked at my ecommerce company for a number of years. I was his direct supervisor and found him to be consistently helpful to our customers and knowledgeable about the products. He's not at all as described by the flamer below. I wouldn't hesitate a second in ordering through Jon knowing that he was going to make my experience as trouble-free as possible. I buy a lot of mail-order. Some companies are very, very good. None are better than The Pet Door Store and many are a misery by comparison.

I had a very good experience with the Pet Door Store. I spoke with John before placing my order about my dog's height etc. They had to special oder, so my door arrived about 2 weeks after I ordered. The door was exceptionally easy to install. Ole Boy has been using his door - controlling his own destiny and loving every minute of it! My only gripe is that the way my home is set up, the doggie door is right off our master bedroom and it's a little loud during the night. It's certainly not Pet Door's fault however, just the way it is. I wish I'd known about the doggie door with my previous pet. She would have loved it.

I read this review but called The Pet Door Store anyway as they had the best price on the item I wanted to order, and I had some compatibility questions about my pet door. I ordered the pet door he suggested even though it was back ordered. After talking to John it became apparent that the item I was ordering was going to be drop shipped from the manufacturer after they had built it just like the complaint above, but he had already gone so far out of his way to make sure that I was comfortable with my purchase that I went ahead with the order anyway. The door came within the time frame that he said it would, and exceeded all of my expectations. The pet door works great, my dog loves it, and I am glad that I was able to talk to someone so knowledgeable before ordering as a good quality pet door is not a cheap item.

Do not order from The Pet Door Store.I called 2.5 weeks after I placed my order to find out where it was. Was told by the owner, "John", that somehow, my order hadn't gotten to the manufacturer. I told him that since it was their (his) mistake, and that nothing had been done with my order in those 2.5 weeks, I demanded overnight shipping to make up for lost time. He told me he'd lose money if he had to pay for overnight shipping, and I informed him that that's sometimes the price you have to pay for mistakes...the cost of doing business. He agreed to expedited shipping, and told me that I'd have my pet door as soon as the manufacturer had "built" it (5-7 days for the build, then shipping).Fine.Fast forward ANOTHER two weeks - called to find out the status. John didn't remember our first conversation, and said that he thought the door was still "back ordered" (remember the first time, he said it had to be built...now it was "back ordered", but he wasn't sure?). I told him he needed to find out for sure, otherwise I'd cancel my order, and buy it elsewhere. He called me back 5 minutes later to tell me the door was still "back ordered" - which is completely meaningless...manufacturers don't have items on "back order"...they've either built it, or they haven't. It was clear by his soft answer at that point that he wasn't interested in a) finding out the truth, b) owning up to his mistake, and c) making the situation right for HIS CUSTOMER who had ALREADY PAID FOR THE ITEM. He just said, "Fine, I'll get you a refund," and hung up on me. Wrong.I immediately called him back, and let him know that I didn't appreciate being hung up on. He said, "I thought we were done." I corrected him. We were indeed, NOT done, as he hadn't told me how he was going to refund my money, and when and how I was going to be notified of said refund. He said that he'd already sent me an email. I told him that he'd have to hold on a minute while I checked my email to be sure it came through, to which he replied, "Hurry up, you're on my dime." Hurry up, you're on my dime??? Are you f****** KIDDING me????The email with the refund information had come through, and he then hung up on me again.If my story isn't enough to dissuade you from ordering from The Pet Door Store, then consider this:Clearly this is just a kid with a computer who's trying (or not trying) to run a "home based internet business". His website is simply a porthole through which you order these items, basically directly from the manufacturer. That's all fine and dandy, until something goes wrong. Obviously he has no experience dealing with dissatisfied customers, zero interest in owning up to and correcting his mistakes, little or no business sense, and a bad attitude to top it all off. Don't waste your time with him, or his company. There are HUNDREDS of other sites where you can purchase these items, and deal with a PROFESSIONAL as well.

From the Pet Door Store Our goal at The Pet Door Store is customer satisfaction. We recommend the BBB as a good way to evaluate companies. The Pet Door Store has never in it's history had a BBB complaint. We aim to keep it this way. The mistake in this customer's order was indeed ours. The Pet Door Store offers free shipping on everything we sell and the cost to upgrade to air shipping is exorbitant, thus we did resist the request for expedited shipping. However, as a customer service gesture, we did agree to air shipping at our cost once the item was ready. Unfortunately when the customer called back, the item was still backordered. That's what the manufacturer states when they have yet to build an order in a queue, so that is the terminology we adopted. A full refund was issued immediately upon request. We regret that a more satisfactory solution could not be obtained for our customer.
