My name is Nicolette Marconi and I own a Mercedes dealership in west L.A. Alyson Powell has been my hair stylist for five years. As I was thinking about writing this review I wanted to find a way that describes both the haircut and the color. Given my background with the Mercedes line of fine automobiles I think the best way to describe that is ?Fit and Finish?. The ?Fit? (cut) is perfect every time. Not too short, not too long, accentuate the face and keep a professional look for an early forties woman executive. Easy to care for ? no mess, no fuss ? wash, dry, and on the go! The ?Finish? (color and highlights) is beautiful and always looks natural. Light brown hair with modest tones of brown and blond weaves. What?s that saying ?only her hairdresser knows for sure?? I can tell you that Alyson Powell knows for sure. She is the best at what she does and I love what she does for my hair.

I have hair to die for. No, I am serious. I have medium length (middle of my back), curley, brown hair. It has great body, texture and wave but it wasn't a show-stopper until Alyson gave me highlights. Now I have subtle, natural looking highlights that catche the light whether it is day or night and she did something with the hair around my face so that I kind of glow. I love it and I can't believe the complements I get. Thanks Alyson!

The bangs did it! I have great long blond hair but until Alyson gave me gentle, subtle layering in the front and on the sides I did not have the options to show off my face the way I do now. Up, down, messy, curly, straight-I always lood great. And oh glorious and great are the highlights-like the color pictures you see in cosmopolitan or vogue. The best I have ever had. Thanks, Alyson!

You are going to absolutely love what Alyson can do for the cut and color of your hair. I have thin, long hair but Alyson gave me a cut (layered) and style (framing my face) that adds volume to my hair and then changed the color slightly to accentuate the brown and auburn colors. My friends are jealous and want to know 'who' did my hair and 'where' . I have always gotten a lot of attention from the men in my life but now that attention has increased significantly. I have never been this satisfied. I love my hair and my stylist!

The entrance to this plush establishment is either from the front, off Third Street, or from the rear and accessed through the parking area. The rear approach to the property is best. As you walk toward the building you will hear the soothing sound of water from a fountain situated against the wall and glistening in the light. Beautiful plants surround the area and there is a quite patio off to the side. As you enter the building you will notice the polished hard wood floors, spotlessly clean, fifteen foot ceilings with crown moldings and skylights situated throughout. All is bright and cheery, especially the staff. The receptionist (an Italian beauty named Elena with European manners, engaging smile, and a professional attitude) will seat you and provide refreshments of your choice. \r
You may very well think you have entered one of the best hotels in southern California, perhaps the Ritz or Four Seasons, and are now sitting comfortably in the lobby except that this is ?the Parlor on Third Street?; a world class hair salon like no other you will visit. Presently your stylist Alyson will greet you. She is beautiful (as are all the people at the Parlor), attentive, welcoming, always on time, and ?lucky you- she is the best-of-the-best in southern California. She will take you to a secluded, recessed alcove with a beautiful etched glass mirror. The setting is intimate and the attention and focus is only on you. Alyson provides the best haircolor and highlights that is possible. She also gives the best cuts. People always ask where I get my hair done-somestimes I tell them, sometimes I avoid the question so that I can keep Alyson to myself! World reknown! I have had my hair done in LA, New York, Paris, Italy and other locations on the continant. I have never found anyone that could provide me with the color and highlights that Alyson provides. It is the best and she has no equal in my experence. It is always a letdown when I am working in locations other than LA and forced to use someone other than Alyson so I try to arrange my schedule so that I can see Alyson every 6-8 weeks when I am in town.

I found Alyson by the grace of God, after trying out many salons in Beverly Hills and surrounding zipcodes. She was instantly calming, confident and totally sure of what needed to be done with my color and cut. What looked skimpy and limp is now full and gorgeous.\r
The salon is wonderful, lowkey and friendly--no attitude whatsoever. I would recommend both Alyson and The Parlour without hesitation!

She does the best highlights, the best color, and a perfect cut. Plus she is nice to be around. It doesn't get any better than this.

Alyson has been cutting my hair for 8 years and she never ceases to amaze me with the perfection and style of the cut. She always seems to know the most up-to date styles, long, short and in-between. She advises on the length of my side burns, the layers and length of my hair, ways to use product and other helpful tips. About a year ago she encouraged me to play around with some subtle color to neutralize the gray. The result was perfect! I did not want any change that people would notice and they didn?t. What they did notice was that I looked younger, more vibrant and healthy. Comments from two of the stylists working in the same shop as Alyson sums it up nicely: ?We thought you were quite good looking to start with but after Alyson was finished working - you were a knock-out. The cut and color of your hair took ten years off of you ? you look 35 again! Let?s have lunch!?\r
An added benefit of having Alyson is just being in her presence. She is a beautiful, caring, inspiring person. She could be called a psych healer. She always has my interests at heart! I love her and want to keep her all to myself, but, she is a talent that needs to be shared by many. \r

About 14 months ago I was living in New York City, getting my hair cut at a top salon on Madison Avenue. When I moved here, I was a little nervous. But with Alyson, there is nothing to worry about, I'm so fortunate to have found her!! She is truly gifted, her work is fabulous! Her cut looks great, grows out evenly, and is so easy to maintain -- I just wash and go, I don't even need any products! I receive countless compliments on my hair!

Okay, so I took a chance and came to Alyson for the first time about 10 months ago based on all of the great reviews I saw on this website. Can I just say, she exceeded my expectations! I am extremely picky, and I am in the process of growing my hair long. When I came to Alyson, my hair was about shoulder length and it was doing nothing cool or fun. Basically, my hair sucked! I wanted to grow it out, but I also wanted it to have movement; however, every time I have ever made the mistake of asking a hairdresser for layers, I have regretted it ,and sometimes I even had to cut a bunch of length off just to get rid of the lame. Alyson spent at LEAST an hour consulting with me before taking me to the wash basin. She asked smart questions like, ""are you good at working with your hair?, Do you like to wear your hair in a pony tail? How high do you usually wear that ponytail?, how often do you wash your hair?, and on and on until there just wasn't another question to be asked or answered. My hair is now, to the middle of my back. Alyson still takes the time to consult with me before EVERY hair cut. It is layered in that fun, playful way that looks like I'm not trying. I first read about Alyson Powell on city search, and with all of the excellent reviews I decided to go in for a trim to see if I would like her style. I went in numerous pictures and she did exactly what I wanted. I could tell she had a good grasp on how to correctly cut hair and I even felt comfortable to try bangs (a risky move for anyone new) after I could tell she knew what she was doing...it is safe to say you're in good hands and you will not be disappointed. \r

I came to Alyson because I was frustrated with my hair due to a recent bad haircut and bad highlighting experience. My fine, thin, long, naturally blonde hair was looking scraggly, dull, and flat. Alyson examined my hair and spoke with me for an hour before starting to work on my hair. It was so refreshing to have a stylist take the time to do this. She did beautiful highlights on me and I love them. My hair looks shiny and healthy and my 2 of my friends commented how natural they looked. Alyson also gave me a great cut. She put in a lot of layers that have given my hair a lot of body and makes it look and feel thicker. She also gave me some great styling tips that I've used and really work for my hair. Alyson is very sweet and talented and I will definitely go back. The salon is very nice. There's metered parking and parking in the back and it's down the street from where I live. I have no complaints!

I went in cold, only going off the CitySearch reviews, and I can honestly state that Alyson has an impeccable eye for color. My hair wasn't a tragedy that needed repair (although I understand that she is THE go-to gal for corrections); it just wasn't quite right and I felt like I had spent too much $ in the past to be unhappy with my hair. I walked in with shoulder length hair and high-lights that were last done 3 months ago. I walked out with shiny, healthier, thicker-looking hair. I had stressed that I didn't want to lose length, and I wanted color closer to my own natural shade. I am thrilled with my haircolor now, and Alyson gave my a wonderfully flattering haircut without sacrificing much in length. (Who knew I had cheekbones?) She spent quite a bit of time talking to me (both on the phone and in person) and gave a candid, and accurate, assessment of what my former hair style & color did and did not do for me. I knew when she was blowdrying it out that the color was right on the money. I wanted to give the cut a couple of days (and my own attempts at blowdrying & styling) before I chimed in on CitySearch: this is the best haircut & color I have had.

I came to Alyson after YEARS of hair abuse from some of the best and most expensive salons in New York City. My hair was orange and had been left longer and damaged in the front and short in back; a terrible ""A"" cut. Firstly, Alyson really really listens. She completely takes her time. She will not do anything until she has gone over it in detail with you. She actually sent me home the first day, because there was not time to do the kind of extensive color correction she had in mind. She gave me a brilliant cut, instead. The kind of cut where I can leave the gym with my hair wet and it will still look great.\r
When she corrected my hair with a genius color weave, I practically cried. This was the kind of lovingly done, stunning but subtle color I had looked for for years. It was gorgeous.\r

I love Alyson. I have unmanageable, somewhat thick wavy hair and lots of it! The problem I have with every haircut is that it grows out into a lion's mane and I thought with my hair, it was inevitable. To maintain it, I normally had to have it cut every other month (and constantly lose my length). I finally had it cut by Alyson and she's a lifesaver. So she's worth every penny since I've only had it cut twice within a year and there were absolutely no problems in between. I'm amazed how she can cut my hair to be easily manageable. The second time I went, I forgot to bring in a pic of a creative cut I wanted. So I tried to explain it and she took her time analyzing my rambling and gave me the best haircut i've ever had. Normally funky (but she made it classy) haircuts grow out very awkwardly for me. It's been 3 months now and I still get compliments for it. I recommend her to everyone not matter what type of hair you have. She can do it all!

I recently got a cut from Alyson for the first time... I was cutting off about 12-13 inches of hair and I was worried, but based on prior reviews I checked her out.... I'm so glad!!\r

She first called me to discuss my ideas and the type of hair I have and wanted to have, then we set up the appt... The location is easy to find and they have parking!! So rare in LA!! She spent a good deal of time analyzing my hair and also with the cut, being extremely careful and precise! After, she spent a length of time with me just showing me how to style my new, totally different, cut... wow. Although as a student, she's pretty expensive for me she had a great first time rate and the cut has swayed me to think about becoming a regular! She's also really sweet, fun, and easy to carry on talking to :o)

Alyson is fantastic. She spent an hour discussing my hair with me, examining its texture, and asking about my lifestyle to determine the best cut. This is literally the best haircut I have ever had - Alyson gave me exactly what I wanted, but it is totally different from what has been done in the past. \r

My hair is shoulder-length, very wavy (can be full-on curly or blown straight) and fine. Alyson cut it so that it still has some length, so I can pin it up if I want to, but it has a clear style and shape to it. It can look either polished or touseled - the perfect balance between professional and fun. AND - I am the laziest person when it comes to blowdrying and styling my hair - so the fact that I can wake up, comb out my hair, wet my fingers and run them through and I'm done, is my dream come true.

I have been living in Los Angeles now for 5 1/2 years. And I have not let anyone cut my hair. Fear mostly that someone would butcher it up. But finally I got the courage and sought out a hair stylist and found Alyson Powell. She called me and made me feel comfortable and asked questions about my hair and the things that I wanted out of her. I made an appointment for the end of the week and it was great. Alyson listened and really took the time to hear what I was saying. I have very curly hair and it is not easy for me to style. But Alyson found a great, easy look for me. With low maintenance. I just went to get my hair cut with Alyson. I called her on Friday, she called me later that evening and I was able to get an appt. at 10am the following day! She is super down-to-earth and very sincere. She spent a long time assessing my hair and correcting what other stylists have done...2 1/2 hours, in fact. The time flew by because we were chatting the whole time. I love my haircut. It is soft, healthy-looking and feeling, and has more body now. I may return for highlights, as I'm confident she'll do a fabulous job. I would highly recommend Alyson because she really enjoys what she does, is very talented, and she makes you feel as if you're just hanging out with a girlfriend.

My roommate found Alyson's profile as we were looking for a stylist who specializes in curly hair and could be trusted to do a major overhaul. I was planning to cut 10 inches off(donated) and wanted a new look with the shoulder length hair I'd have left.\r
Alyson spent a great deal of time with me over the phone before we met, discussing my goals and hopes for the new style. She was helpful and supportive with this BIG decision to go through with the cut. The salon was elegant yet comfortable and a perfect setting for the makeover.\r

Alyson has been my hairstylist for 15 years. She has seen me through many cuts and colors along the way. Her cutting technique is superior. She is very detailed and precise. When I come in with a very specific idea of what I want I always leave with exactly what I wanted. When I don't know what I want, she helps me find a cut that compliments my face, coloring, hair texture and the look I desire. I have never walked away from Alyson's chair feeling that she cut too much or too little. Also worth mentioning is her warmth and graciousness. You can't go wrong with Alyson.

Alyson is amazing. I've been a loyal customer for several years and I won't go to anyone else for my hair...ever!!! Her highlights are so natural looking and my hair always has so much bounce and shape after her cuts. I've always been thrilled every time she does my hair. Alyson is a god send. I came to her with tri colored hair after a truly bad color experience from another salon. I was nervous to have anyone even touch it. But I read the reviews then spoke with her on the phone. She listened to my plight, she figured out what needed to be done, and then quietly, she ""fixed"" my hair. Voila! I look like me again. Back to my natural brunette state! I can't tell you how happy I am to have found such a skilled colorist.

Alyson does the most natural highlights and the bet hair cut I have ever had, I have curly fine hair, my natural hair color is sandy brown. With the cut she gives me I'am able to blow dry my hair out or leave it natural. When my hair grows out it looks so natural that know one can tell. I get lots of complements on my hair. Alyson is the best hair stylist I have ever met. She has such a positive attitude she makes me feel great.

I've been going to Alyson for 10 years and her cuts are awesome. If you're looking for a high quality cut in the style you want, she's definitely for you. Also, if you're looking for advice on which way to go with your hair, the one unique skill Alyson has over all others I've been to is to give great suggestions and recommendations. She has her finger on what's hip and stylish and can do just about anything.

The great thing about the cut is the personal touch. She's warm and friendly without the stuffiness you may get from some pre-madonnas.

Absolutely try her out, especially if you're looking for someone whom is flexible and dependable.

After searching Los Angeles for a truly talented stylist, I have found a home at the Ken Paves salon with ALYSON. I'm not even going to tell you how far away I live.... Let's just say, it's nowhere close to West Hollywood, but it is worth all the time and traffic it takes because this girl is AMAZING!!!! I can not rave enough about my cut, hilites and condition of my hair since I started seeing her. People stop me all the time and ask who does my hair. Seriously, how often do people stop you and ask who does your hair? It already happened 4 times this week which is why I am writing this review. Go see her. ALYSON is AMAZING and I would recommend her to anyone!!!! Thanks so much ALYSON!!!!

Unlike other stylist who are more concerend with how quickly they can do your cut and color. Alyson listens to you, and gives her input and then makes sure you are happy. Over the past 6 years she has always done a great job. She is truly the best at what she does. Also, she has great vision for what will look best. My wife and I both go to her.

Above all, she is a wonderful, caring and genuine person who is great at what she does.

She really listens to you and takes her time to create a thoughtful and beautiful color and cut. I would not go to anyone else!

You guys in So. Cal. are in for a treat. I first met Alyson around my 30th birthday when another hairstylist turned my hair fluorescent orange. Alyson was able to help me get my hair back to natural looking blond highlights; I've been with her for 12 years and won't let anyone else touch my hair. Hopefully you won't have to hear the words ""don't freak"" from your hairstylist like I did - but if you are looking for a real color professional, you can't do better than Alyson. My husband and I hope that she will keep coming to the SF bay area to support her n. cal. customers, but she is definitely worth a try. I've never been to her new site, so I can't give you much info there.

Alyson has cut and highlighted my hair for 17+ years. Today we did a breakout new cut -- very fun to shorten it up in back, but still leave it full in front. My husband loves it (and, after 20 years, it take SOMETHING to make HIM notice. ;-)) Thanks, Alyson!

Lots of tiny, multicolor red-gold highlights make it both look natural and grow out great. She rescued my 20th high-school reunion -- I had a megabuck cut from the (famous) head of three SF salons ... looked like a short, dead haystack -- she trimmed me back into the land of the living. I'm pretty conservative, so she downplays her hip/creative side and just ensures that I look good. (Though I do appreciate her eco-sensitive approach to my head!) Now that she only comes up to Northern California once every six weeks, I plan my schedule accordingly. Though I may get caught and see you in LA some time.
