Tantalizing upscale comfort cuisine is only rivaled by Thomas Schoos' breathtaking design. This "Everyman's Urban bistro" will dazzle with a little something for everyone. Chic or shabby, this is the place to dine or "hang", and the perfect place for a business lunch. We are located within walking distance of the Walk of Fame, Amoeba Music, ArcLight Cinemas and Pantages theater...ask about our "Wicked" cocktails!

Editorial by Citysearch

The Scene
Designed by Thomas Schoos (Koi, Wilshire), this sensuously glam space is one of the shining stars of the once-rundown Cahuenga Corridor. It casts a decadent spell through three stunning areas: A grand front dining room, sultry back lounge, and starry alley patio ideal for smokers. Tall mirrors, votive candles and flickering chandeliers cast eerie shadows over celebs and scenesters chilling at cowhide-clad alcoves, the luxe mahogany bar and packed tables.

The Food
Southern-tinged comfort food is deftly and generously turned out and attractively presented. The half-pound of tender, piquant Cajun barbecued shrimp is a surefire starter. Green peppercorns nicely offset a hunk of flavorful filet mignon, while Southern fried chicken is perfectly moist inside with a light, crispy buttermilk-cayenne batter outside. The true standout, however, is the braised short ribs, fall-apart tender, richly unctuous and bathed in a red wine reduction nestled in creamy polenta.

Key Points

  • Great ambience
  • Outdoor Seating
  • Sunday Brunch

The Inside Scoop

  1. Look Good - Make reservations to avoid a long wait behind the velvet rope. There's often a two-hour time limit on dinner tables.
  2. Save Money - The lounge menu offers scaled-down options like sliders, chicken skewers and jalapeno mac and cheese.
  3. What to Drink - Those on a budget need not fear the wine list, with several good choices under $40 and a handful of new and old world labels by the glass. Corkage is $25. If cocktails are your poison, check out the peach Schnapps martini.

Ratings_icons Terrible service before we even sat down

newyork2la

We were running a few minutes late and when we arrived at the restaurant they could not find our name and then told us sorry but they had given our table away because we were 15 minutes late and they were a hot new restaurant. They then told us that we could wait at the bar and maybe get a table in 40 minutes. Not impressed. Went to Jar instead and had an amazing dinner there with fantastic service and wonderful food.

Ratings_icons High on COOL factor, food just OK.

Had to wait 20 minutes before they took our order, not a good start. The space is awsome, very cool with alot of eye candy. The salad was poor, the steak was good, the Mac N cheese was better and the drinks are pricy. The waitress managed to salvage the night for us, overall I liked the place but was expecting more. I think I just caught it on a bad night. Will try again.

Pros: cool space, chic

Cons: pricy, loud

Ratings_icons Fabulous ambience, but the food is mediocre.

Love the ambience, great place to take a date. The food was ok. The mussels were a little too salty and the fried chicken needed to be seasoned. I would go for the ambience, not for the food.

Ratings_icons Room For Improvement

missfoodie2006

The O-Bar folks have succeeded again with great decor, but came up short at CS with service and food. Hostess was very slow to seat us and crammed our party into a small booth outside (although we had reservations and the restaurant was virtually empty, they would not seat us elsewhere). Our busser was really nice and attentive, but the waiters were amateurs lacking in customer service skills. Our entrees took over 1 hour to arrive, without any apologies, updates, or accommodations. The food, I am sorry to say, was not good. Barring the onion soup, which was decent, the steak, burger, tuna, and numerous appetizers were huge disappointments.

If you visit CS expecting O-Bar quality of service and food, you'll be disappointed. CS has potential, and I hope they will learn from their shortcomings and improve soon.

Pros: Decor

Cons: Service, Food, Overpriced

Ratings_icons Good, not great

johnsontrafton

While the atmosphere is fantastic, the overall dining experience is barely above average for the cost. The staff is friendly and attractive, but not entirely on top of things. The food is good, but nothing to write home about. I had a beautiful looking filet mignon that was of top quality but was prepared rather blandly - neither the balsamic reduction nor the bearnaise did much to enhance the flavor. Tomato soup was like a marinara sauce. Blackened Ahi was a bit spicy but very tasty. Caesar salad was average. House wines were laughable for a steak house of this caliber.

Pros: Beautiful decor, Blackened Ahi, Hollywood Scene-y

Cons: Steak sauces, Tomato Soup, Hollywood Scene-y

Ratings_icons Sexy Ambience & Amazing Food

This place is fabulous! From the decor to the food everything here seems to work perfectly. I had the New York strip steak with the Jalapeno mac n cheese. If you are really hungry, start with the onion ring tower or the Cajun shrimp. I havent had a steak that good in a long time. Afterwards we hung out by the bar while Citizen Smith transformed into a bar/restaurant scene after 12 or so. I am going back for sure!

Pros: Ambience, Food, Open Late

Amazing decor, great vibe, very cozy and warm with a fantastic outdoor dining area. Who would think fried chicken and Angus beef steaks work together so well on the same menu? Try the muscles steamed in butter and wine...never had any this wonderful! The tower of onion rings are killer. Make a reservation today.

All around great - I agree with the previous reviewer that it is very NYC-esque. The decor is really interesting, the food fantantic (horseradish mashed potatoes, yum) and the service attentive. Highly recommended.

Pros: Ambiance, food, service

Cons: pricey valet

Ratings_icons Love this place! Love the space!

Finally a restaurant that gets the balance of chic, cool, amazing food and reasonable prices. Very NYC...

Had dinner there with large groups of friends twice now and everyone loved it! The staff and management were gracious (no LA attitude but cool) and the food was incredible the jalape?o mac-n-cheese, the slider mini burgers and onion ring tower (yum!) and fried chicken, oh my! SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT!

Pros: Great Crowd, Beautiful Space, Amazing Food

Ratings_icons New hip spot...with more than just great food...

emh4

I was at the grand opening for Citizen Smith on Wednesday, February 1st and had a great time. The opening was packed and was more of a bar if anything so I went back on Saturday night for a meal. I arrived at midnight and sampled the afterhours menu. The food was great, prompt service, and we had a large party in a private booth. I am going to go back and try their main menu for dinner very soon.

It is a great place if you want a nice meal for dinner, a late night bite or drink (they are open until 4am), have a private party, or just get a drink with some friends.
