I have been a student of Master Gohring Tai Chi & Kung Fu School for about 2 years. The reason I started Tai Chi was because my 4 year-old son was already taking Kung Fu at his school. My son has always been very rambunctious, to say the least, and after about 6 months in Master Gohring's Little Dragon's class, I noticed an enormous change. He was much calmer and his overall focus had improved...he even helped me more around the house. After 2 years, I've noticed my son, while still a kid, is incredibly responsible and considerate, I truly believe it's because of Master Gohring. (I am a single mother.) Since the school allows parents to watch the Little Dragons Class (Children ages 4-7), I began to get to know the other parents and Master Gohring fairly well. I learned that many of the parents also took classes at the school and I decided to sign up. I'm not a big exerciser and I inquired about Tai Chi. It has changed my life! I feel way less stressed, I've learned to watch how I breathe, I am more aware of my body and understand how to relax more. I am so grateful that Master Gohring and his staff have encouraged me to keep going. I also want to mention that I am happy with the price of the classes. Having compared it to other schools when I first signed up, I feel really good about how I am spending my money. I love all of the extra-curricular activities that the school offers, especially the tournaments, which I've gone to to support friends/parents. Master Gohring has created a wonderful family community. It's a great place to be a part of!

I preface this review by stating that I hold a black belt in Taekwondo, and used to teach classes as well. I share that to let folks know I have a point of reference and experience with martial arts training.

I have now been training for approximately four and a half years with Master Gohring and am now a part-time employee; therefore I wanted to update my review. Reading my previous review I can see how it may seem ?loaded?. I was very excited about the changes in my life as a result of my training at Master Gohrings? Tai Chi & Kung Fu and may have come across as unrealistic.
When I began my Tai Chi training I was concerned that due to my disabilities I would not be able to do what was required in class. I was encouraged, guided, and challenged by a very gentle, caring and competent staff led by Master Gohring. I was also concerned because I didn?t really want to learn a martial art, I just wanted to get the health benefits from Tai Chi. Now I find the martial aspect of Tai Chi fascinating, realizing that true health depends on physical, mental and spiritual factors which are all cultivated by proper and continuous practice of Tai Chi.
I also remember thinking that I would be paying a lot of money for martial arts lessons, considering how cheap Karate lessons cost in the early 1980?s. I realized about a week or two into my training that I was getting superb value. I had support and instruction from a highly qualified and experienced staff who reported directly to Master Gohring, a Sixth Degree Black Sash Master Instructor in Tai Chi & Kung Fu. I found the entire staff to be caring and supportive, obviously taking their lead from Master Gohring.
As a result of my continued training I have gone from being essentially immobile and extremely unhealthy to no longer needing a walker to get around. I have also lost over 150 pounds and been able to come off of several prescription medications. I also have become much calmer and find that I can deal with stress better than ever.
I highly recommend that you check out Master Gohring?s Tai Chi & Kung Fu. I think that you will find that one of the programs may be just what you need to improve the quality of your life.

Master Gohring asked me to right a review. I am glad to do it. I've been going here for about 4 months and always look forward to it. I've wanted to learn about Martial Arts for a long time. In addition, I wanted to find a way to exercise that was fun and where I would learn something. Taking Kung Fu accomplishes both. I recently moved to Austin and looked up schools on the internet. When I walked into Master Gohring's Tai Chi and Kung Fu I knew I found the right place. It felt very authentic and Master Gohring teaches the classes. It is an inspiring atmosphere where everyone wants to learn, improve and help each other out. I'm definitely doing moves that I would not have thought I could do. I'm not perfect but I make improvements with each class. In the short time I've been going, I've noticed more flexibility, strength and balance. There is so much to learn and so many benefits that I can definitely see myself doing this for many years to come.

M. Growden - ?To Life?
I am a student of Master Gohring?s Tai Chi & Kung Fu School for about 12 weeks now. As I approach my graduation to second sash, Master Gohring has asked me to review his school and what it has meant to me. The reason I started Tai Chi was two fold. First, my wife has been taking Tai Chi for almost 2 year?s and I have seen a lot of the physical and mental benefits that she has received from Master Gohring?s teaching of Tai Chi. I have seen the determination and focus as she reaches each new sash level. The second reason I joined was that my whole family (this includes my In-laws) are now taking Tai Chi and it has brought us closer as a family. We enjoyed each other?s company before, but in practicing and learning Tai Chi together we are learning how to breathe deeper, to reduce stress, relax more and we get a great work out. Master Gohring?s teaching is helping me to restructure my body and mind. Each class brings new insights into the Tai Chi form. We are learning not only the form but also lessons that are beneficial in our every day life. I want to thank Master Gohring for his dedication to his students and for helping us, understand that Tai Chi is not just a martial art. It is a key element in Living a Healthy Life!

I'm a pretty high strung person. Walking into Master Gohrings Tai Chi and Kung Fu school was a breath of fresh air for me. It is the place i go to relax after my work day. The sense of community is strong and the atmosphere is professional, welcoming and friendly. There are all ages that train here, from kids to adults to seniors. Definitely something for everyone.
I have never before made time in my day to relax or take a few minutes to myself, shutting out the mobile phone and the rest of the world. But since doing so back in July of 2006, my life has changed for the better. I cannot imagine what i'd be doing in my free time if i hadn't discovered Tai Chi. It is Meditation in Motion. There are constantly new levels and layers of understanding with Tai Chi, and Master Gohring caringly and patiently works with his students, hands-on, in all of his classes.
There are different levels you can sign up for, from Basic to Master's Path and even Apprentice training, which i have started to gain the skills of a trainer. We have "Bonus" classes on Friday evenings where we learn several other aspects such as Calligraphy, Weapon Forms, Fan Dances...the list goes on! Not only is it fun, but it gives you great thighs, helps your physical and mental balance and tightens up your reflexes! I cannot get enough of Tai Chi and cannot encourage you any more to take the plunge and go to one free lesson. You won't regret it!

J. Johnson ? ?Knee to Renewal?
I am a student of Master Gohring?s School of Tai Chi & Kung Fu. He has asked me to write a review of him and the school. I came to be at Master Gohring?s school because my daughter asked me to go with her on a free lesson. This was about 2 years ago. I had serious knee problems at the time, but I found that the Nei Kung exercise to be very helpful. My knee did show improvement and was strengthening, until I forgot myself and ended up twisting my knee and re-injuring it. Tai chi has been good for me, it has taught me to be patient in pushing myself and knowing how much I can take as well as to take my time learning the moves, and I am constantly improving. I respect the people I meet and interact with at the school. Everyone has their own journey and yet we come together in this expression of Tai Chi to improve ourselves. I am grateful to Master Gohring for his patience and kindness. All the fancy moves I thought were way beyond my abilities, I am now learning them! What has kept me in Tai Chi training this long? My daughter and the fact that I like feeling younger than my actual age. I am very glad that I have stuck with the Tai Chi training and very grateful to Master Gohring.

L. Johnson ? ?Re-Vitalized at 67?
At Master Gohring's request I am writing a review of his Tai Chi and Kung Fu School. Master Gohring?s Tai Chi School is fulfilling the goals claimed in their brochure. I have curvature of the spine and have protected my back for years. This has made me stiff and has limited my ability to bend over to pick things up, to get out of chairs, etc. My coordination and balance had deteriorated to the point that I moved, acted and felt like an 87 year old. My wife and daughter have been taking Tai Chi for about 2 years. I saw the improvement in their physical, mental and emotional health and this led me to believe that Tai Chi could help me. I have been practicing Tai Chi for 3 month?s now as a Student at Master Gohring?s School of Tai Chi and Kung Fu and in this time my coordination, balance and flexibility have improved greatly! I like the Nei Kung classes for its low impact exercises that teaches you to breathe properly, improve strength and flexibility. The Tai chi form teaches coordination and balance. I am able to apply techniques learned in class to daily activities, while working on a project around the house; I felt pain in my lower back. I was able to modify the ?Embracing Horse? Nei Kung exercise, to relieve the pain, and place my back in a better position to continue working on the project. Recently while working in my green house I was reaching down to pick up a small heater when my foot slipped and I fell. Without anything or anyone to assist me, I was able to get back up on my feet. Three months ago I would have had to lay there and waited for someone to come and help me. I feel vitalized in doing more projects and things around the house. I am grateful to Master Gohring?s for his patience in teaching an ?old man? new tricks. I wish I had known about the benefits of Tai Chi at a much younger age, but better to have found it now then not at all. Thank you Master Gohring.

T. Johnson-Growden - ?The family that Tai Chi?s together stays healthy together?

I am writing this review of Master Gohring?s School of Tai Chi and Kung Fu, because I am graduating to Purple Sash. (The 6th level on the way to my Black Sash). In the three months since my last graduation a lot has happened. Not only is my mother practicing Tai Chi with me at Master Gohring?s School of Tai Chi & Kung Fu, but my father and husband have joined us as well. This takes me back to the basics (Nei Kung exercises which we all need to keep up with) it has strengthened my resolve to reach Black Sash sooner and to join Master Gohring?s CIT (Certified Instructor Training) program. No one wants to see their parent?s age, and by taking Tai Chi my parents are taking steps to improve their physical and mental abilities and to keep the aging process from advancing to quickly. My husband and I are getting benefit of slowing down the aging process, years ahead of my parents. Because all four of us are Diabetics, we had considered putting in a Swimming Pool at our house, so that we would have a form of exercise that was easy on the joints and was aerobic. What we found is that Tai Chi gave us those benefits and we could practice all year round at anytime anyplace (unlike a pool). In practicing Tai Chi together we watch less TV, so we are off the couch and moving around! We find we have more energy and interest in doing things outside the house, and with all of us attending the School; we have to be organized with our time. I have found that Tai Chi has given me more benefits, than I could have imagined, and I can not imagine a time without Tai Chi. For me and my family it is a perfect way of exercising.

Thank you, Master Gohring for all the care and Instruction you put into your Staff and your Students.

Ever since moving here from California I have been searching for a way to keep in shape. I don't like doing to gyms or playing more "traditional" sports because I often find them boring, and I have trouble sticking with the program. I've found that martial arts was the answer I was looking for. I tried a few over the years, in cluding Tae Kwon Do and Karate, but I've found that I enjoy Kung Fu the most. Master Gohring's school has been nothing but fantastic. The price per month is a little high, and signing contracts make me nervous, but the quality of teaching has been nothing short of surperb. Sifu Gohring teaches every class himself, and uses good examples of all the technique so that everyone in class can understand what's going on. There is a HUGE variety of things to learn, from basic kicks and punches to the 108 Tiger Crane form. One of my favorite things about class is the workout I recieve there. Some of my friends take martial arts as well, and I have joined them in their classes on occasion, but I always get the best exercise in Kung Fu. Students were asked to write a review on how they felt about traing at the school, and it took me a second to sum up my thoughts. I feel that you get the best value for both your time and money with Sifu Gohring. I've been there for 2yrs now, and I intend to keep going!

This school has classes for adults and children, from beginners to advanced. I've been given the opportunity to take classes with my wife and daughter, allowing us to participate in some common activity and to learn something new, healthy, and useful. I feel proud seeing my 5-year-old daughter enjoy learning and participating in class. Personally, class has become a consistent way for me to get exercise and stay in shape, as well as participate in a family activity.

I've discovered that people who love what they're doing, do a good job at what they are doing. The most enthusiastic person about his profession I've met in a long time is Master Tom Gohring. He asked me to write a review about what I think about his school and the first thing that came to mind was how his students see him every day. He has the ability to generate passion for Kung Fu and TaiChi because he has that same passion. I've been one of his TaiChi students for almost two years. Yes, I am passionate about this martial art and look forward to walking in the school and receiving the individual attention from this teacher each week. Anybody can do taichi. Literally any BODY, young, old, thin, not so thin, male or female can achieve this positive energy. Initially, for me, taichi provided stress relief . As I progress, I notice more balance and more confidence, physically as well as mentally, in anything that comes my way.

Pros: Instructor has 20 years of experience

Cons: my schedule is too busy to take as many classes as I would like to take

At the ripe age of 48, I decided to take up a martial art. Throughout my adult life I've maintained a pretty good fitness level, but had grown tired of lifting weights and walking endless miles on my treadmill. and felt ready for a new challenge. I've always had some interest in possibly training in the martial arts, but found Tae Kwon Do--the most commonly practiced martial art in the U.S.--to be too aggressive for my tastes. And Tai Chi seemed too slow for the kind of training I was looking for. So I investigated a couple of Kung Fu schools, and easily chose Master Gohring's. I immediately liked the "vibe" when I first walked through the door. The staff and students are friendly and warm and welcoming. I've been training there since for about three months now, and have already noticed an increase in my aerobic fitness, stamina, flexibility and general confidence. Master Gohring exudes confidence and kindness, and is very patient with his students. And when he demonstrates the forms and movements to us, there's no doubt that he knows what he's doing. At my age I'll never be a Bruce Lee, but I do intend to earn my black sash at this school, and know that I'll have fun while doing it.

At my age I'll never be a Bruce Lee, but I do intend to earn my black sash at this school, and know that I'll have fun while doing it.

.

When Master Gohring asked if I would take a few minutes to post a review of his martial arts school, I agreed right away. Master Gohring's Tai Chi and Kung Fu is a great place to study either discipline. I am in the tai chi program and recently began my third year. When I first came to the school as a visitor, I signed up for a few introductory classes. After about four classes I was pretty well hooked. The curriculum is well designed to help students advance through ten sash levels first as a beginner, than an intermediate, and finally as an advanced student. A student may set their own pace for attaining each progressive level. Master Gohring is a gifted instructor and takes a personal interest in every student's development. He is ever encouraging and sets an example of self-discipline, respectful of others, and faith in one's self. I hope you will visit the school sometime and perhaps get a sense of the transforming energy of tai chi.

Pros: The school is conveniently located and there is plenty of parking.

Cons: Have not had any negative experiences at the school

I have been attending Master Gohring's school of T'ai Chi and Kung Fu for approximately 10 years. A friend encouraged me to try it, and I never would have believed that I would still be here 10 years later. Although I was asked to write this review, it is by no means contrived; the following is heartfelt.

Master Gohring is an excellent instructor. It is obvious that he loves to teach, and he is constantly honing his teaching techniques and curricula to make them better. He has a unique ability to convey information in terms that any student can understand. I've seen him teach people from 4 to 80 years of age, and they all get the knowledge they need.

In a little over a week, I will be testing for a 2nd degree black sash in T'ai Chi. This feels like a miracle but it is actually a result of following a well-orchestrated program. From Day One, a student can see the path from there to Black Sash (and beyond). The classes are in levels with requirements to fulfill before progressing to the next level. There's no "mystery" involved. All students follow the same path at the speed they wish to follow it.

I have grown in so many ways from practicing T'ai Chi. I'm physically stronger and am better at coping with stress. My balance is unbelievable - no more dancing around the room to put on a shoe. I can just stand on one leg and put on the shoe, lace it up, and tie it without losing my balance. This still amazes me.

If you are looking for an activity that will enhance your life physically, mentally, and spiritually, then this is the school for you. If you are looking to get in better shape, then this is the school for you. If you're just looking for something different and fun, then this is the school for you.

Come try it!

I started Tai Chi due to a recommendation of a then co-worker, who has since retired from work. Although it took me a month less than 3 years to get my Black sash, I stayed mainly for my health, and some for peace of mind. Tai Chi is my first martial arts that I have taken anywhere.

I've lost approximately 3 inches off my waist, thanks to the Nei Kung / Chi Gong series I did as a White Sash and Gold sash at the school. I would recommend that for people wanting to lose inches off their waistline. Fortunately the inches are still off.

A few of the students are fairly kind and helpful.

I have trained in Tai Chi at this school for almost 5 years, and the Nei Kung set (Beginner class) is the best so far. What brought me initially to the school was the recommendation from the co-worker and the praise I heard for the Nei Kung set.

Finally, after four years I am about to test for my black sash in Tai Chi. When I came to an introductory class four years ago I had no idea that there were sash levels or that I would like it well enough to attend faithfully all this time. Sifu Gohring asked us to write about what motivated us to reamain in the program. Several things. First the school itself is fun with wonderful comrades. Second, the program has helped with balance, stamina, and coordination. Third, the classes change every six weeks with learning sessions cycling across the year. The progression across Nei Kung, the form, applications, and weapons keeps classes interesting. Whie black sash is my current "top" in sight, there is more - some students are now testing for second degree black sash. I look forward to working my way up the black sash ladder.

Master Gohring has asked me if I would take a moment to post a review of my thoughts of his school in which I am one of his students. It?s kind of hard to think that it is now over three years ago when I had my very first lesson with him and little did I know I would actually be testing one day for a Black Sash in Tai Chi (actually, this Nov 18th). After all, I was there for Tai Chi, the health and wellness program thing?.. Looking back I knew very, very little about Tai Chi. I thought I was really there to find relief from my high stress career, to find my center and become healthier through Tai Chi. That was only the beginning as I quickly started to achieve the basic benefits of Tai Chi in just the first few months. My flexibility grew, my stress lowered (which is a good thing as even more stress continues to come my way), and I could bend over and get up without getting a head rush. Master Gohring opened a door to Tai Chi that is not found just anywhere. He has an open door to an Ancient Chinese Martial Art with a structured program to mark your progress so you can actually see just how far you?ve come and where you are going with no end in sight. The beauty in it all is that it?s a lifelong journey of continued growth and achievements in health, self-defense and well-being. That alone is priceless.

Pros: Life changing journey with a great tour guide.

I joined Master Gohring's studio a little over a year ago. While there was sales pressure to sign a lengthy contract, I understand the business reasons for doing so (ensuring your students commit allows you to properly structure training without worrying about keeping your students entertained - it allows you to focus on teaching, even if they have to learn to eat bitter, rather than retaining your students by playing the entertainer instead of the teacher).

I have taken martial arts (taekwondo, mixed martial arts, some shotokan karate, and others) for the last twenty years (since I was around 8), and have encountered only one teacher with the skill and knowledge of Sifu Gohring. While others may complain about the traditional aspects of the school, I find them refreshing. Enhancing discipline, instilling mutual respect, and building a proper mindset all result from the bows, ma'ams, and sirs. In addition, Sifu has EARNED my respect; something most other martial arts instructors have failed to do. I find Master Gohring's commitment admirable - he teaches EVERY class himself, and does not relegate to junior instructors. Each level of membership is a choice - you have the opportunity to engage in additonal, more complex training. Of course it costs more - did you expect the instruction to be free?

I am very happy with my choice - I expect to continue learning for many years from Sifu - and think that while the training is expensive, it is worth every penny. After all, you get what you pay for, right?

When I decided to sign up with Master Gohring's Tai Chi & Kung Fu about a year and a half ago, it was the first and only school I visited. My first impression of the school was of a welcoming environment and a friendly staff. I hate working out because I get bored or I am afraid that other people are judging my performance. Neither is the case here. Each unit covers a lot of information and the units rotate every six weeks, so there is little time to get bored. Also, the only person judging your performance is Master Gohring, and he does not judge you against everyone else, but rather, against your own improvement and training goals. I have found myself becoming a more stable person and I can do physical things I could not do when I started. It is a little expensive, but consider this: practicing tai chi or kung fu is excellent for improving both physical and mental health. I figure that the fees are still less than a gym membership, therapy, and a lifetime of medication and other medical expenses. Even though there are other schools right around the corner from me in South Austin, I gladly make the drive to Airport & North Lamar 3-5 days a week for classes.

Cons: it's not easy - but isn't that the point???

When I started at Master Gohring's Kung Fu and Tai Chi a year ago, I was looking for an interesting way to get my health in order and bring my cholesterol down. I was welcomed immediately by Ms. Peters. I had to reschedule my introductory lesson a couple of times, and she was very understanding. I had done some Tae Kwon Do previously, and I wanted to be sure there was a class where adults could practice techniques separately from the young ones. There was indeed such a time slot; actually there are several available, which meet certain standards Master Gohring has set for consistent instruction.

Since then, I've met a lot of great people. The senior students are gentle, friendly, and helpful, and the atmosphere is fun but very challenging. My focus has shifted from keeping healthy to knuckling down and learning Kung Fu. Martial arts are an excellent way to reduce stress, and in my case social anxiety, due to the nature of the interactions and quality of the people. When evaluating martial arts schools, you can tell a lot by looking at the students. Everyone has been respectful of the instructor and one another, and attitudes are checked at the door. The environment balances control and a relaxed Austin flavor.

It's apparent that Master Gohring cares a lot about delivering quality instruction. The class sizes are small enough that there is enough individual attention, and he offers suggestions to take techniques to the next level based on individual mastery. The style taught is Tiger Crane, a Southern Shaolin style, and classes are supplemented with other techniques with which Master Gohring is experienced. I recommend it to my friends, and if you are someone with a great attitude and a willingness to work to improve yourself, you'll probably fit in.

I could barely move when I hobbled in the door at Master Gohring's Tai' Chi and Kung Fu. I was not certain what to expect my first class. I was immediately greeted by the friendliest and caring person (Ms. Peters) who made me feel right at ease. It turned out that all the people I would meet that night would be just as friendly and caring, both staff and students.

As a beginning student I could only participate in class for a few minutes at a time. Due to numerous health problems and a decade of being essentially bed-ridden I had no stamina and could barely stand without a walker. However, the instructor was extremely supportive and accommodating. He and Master Gohring told me to keep coming to class and I would see an improvement over time.

Sure enough, after few weeks and with much support and encouragement from Master Gohring and his staff I did see improvement. My ability to stand unaided and my stamina increased. Soon I traded my walker for a Quad cane. Slowly, as I continued training my balance, strength and flexibility improved to a point where I was able to use a standard cane.

It has been over three years since that first class and I continue to improve physically. I now only use a cane when I am tired or in foul weather. I have also lost significant weight, my confidence level has increased and I have been able to stop taking pain medication (I took pain meds for over 10 yrs for chronic back and knee pain). I am also now much calmer and relaxed than previously. I continue to have some health problems but with such a supportive environment I am able to persevere.

I now attend classes every day and can not really function normally without them. I have committed to earning my Black Sash in Tai' Chi and continuing to study the art for rest of my life.

If you live in the Greater Austin, Texas area and are interested in Tai' Chi and want to improve yourself on all levels I highly recommend that you check out Master Gohring's Tai' Chi and Kung Fu.

I began taking classes at Master Gohring's Tai' chi and Kung Fu in Austin, TX in 2003. At that time I had to literally drag myself in the door using a walker. I had numerous serious health problems including crippling back pain and was severely depressed.

I could feel an immediate difference in my state of mind each time I entered the door to the school. Although I could not hardly participate in classes at first, the support I received from the staff and my fellow students gave me the courage to keep coming to and participating in classes.

After a few weeks I not only felt better mentally and emotionally but physically as well. Gradually I began to improve more and more. If I missed a class I noticed that I felt "not quiet right" until I made it back to class. After a few months I was able to trade the walker for a cane.

As I continue to study at Master Gohring's Tai' Chi and Kung Fu I continue to improve. To date, I no longer use a cane, my endurance and balance have improved greatly, I have lost significant weight, reduced the number of medications that I have to take and generally feel healthier, happier and more confident.

In summary, my experience at Master Gohring's Tai' Chi and Kung Fu has completely transformed my life for the absolute best!

Joining Master Gohring's Tai Chi and Kung Fu in Austin, Texas has truly been a blessing to our family, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to grow both personally and professionally through the study of martial arts. We have been students for over two years, and we love our school and Master Gohring. When we enrolled our children in the Little Dragons Kung Fu class, we were happy to learn that Master Gohring offers a discount for the entire family. Now, my husband and children take Kung Fu classes together, and I study Tai Chi. What a great family activity, thanks to Master Gohring's generous policy.

All of the instructors at Master Gohring's school are excellent teachers, and the curriculum is very well-designed. I enjoy Master Gohring's style...very professional, yet charming, and the guy really knows Chinese martial arts. The school itself is clean and beautiful, and our uniforms are cool and comfortable. This is a first-class operation, and I am proud to be a part of it.

I highly recommend Master Gohring's Tai Chi and Kung Fu to everyone. Please come by and visit our school, or check the website at www.MasterGohring.com. It's the best investment you'll ever make.

My primary goal to studying T??ai Chi was to find sources of relaxation relief from my high-stress work environment without turning to the most commonly source of medication as some of my coworkers have. Since I started playing T??ai Chi in August of 2004 with Master Gohring??s T??ai Chi & Kung Fu, I have been amazed of the impact it has made in my everyday life. I am breathing better, moving more freely and my posture has improved. Overall I am feeling stronger mentally and physically which impacts me spiritually as well. My stress level has continued yet with the practice of T??ai Chi, I feel better equipped to handle most anything thrown in my direction, the ultimate T??ai Chi move, no pun intended. Each class gives me much to look forward to as learning with the other students is fun, safe and always fresh. Master Gohring takes great care in his instruction as to not to overwhelm us and yet keeps us all interested in perfecting each individual move. Mastering T??ai Chi is truly a journey of which I am glad to be a part of and it??s comforting in knowing it??s something I can continue to do even when I reach 102 years old, unlike some other sports and activities I??ve been involved in. I recommend Master Gohring's T'ai Chi and Kung Fu to anyone who is looking for a better quality of life whether it's an internal or external martial art, the choice is yours, he has both to offer you. Visit online at www.MasterGohring.com!

Our entire family has been studying martial arts at Master Gohring?s Tai Chi and Kung Fu in Austin, TX for the past two years, and we absolutely love our school. It is one of the best investments we could ever make for so many reasons.

Of course, learning and practicing martial arts gives us increased energy and strength, improved posture and bodily control, clarity of mind and focus, and the ability to defend against a physical attack. But, there are some other aspects of Master Gohring?s school that have impacted us on other levels.

For example, when my husband and I enrolled our two children in the Little Dragons Kung Fu class, we did not know or expect that we also would be able to take Tai Chi or Kung Fu classes at a discount. Because of this generous policy, our family has a common interest that is healthy, active and affordable. We are grateful to Master Gohring for promoting families in this way.

I am also impressed with Master Gohring?s sincerity. I believe he and his instructors have the best interests of the students at heart. Master Gohring is honest in both his praise and his correction when he teaches. He has a natural style and a true desire to help his students discover their inner teacher.

Another thing I admire about Master Gohring is his ability to command the respect and attention of his students, from the Little Dragons (4-, 5-, and 6-year-olds) to the most advanced. I like the way he requires everyone to say, ?Yes, Sir/Ma?am? or ?No Sir/Ma?am? to instructors or Black Sashes. Because he creates an awareness and healthy respect for authority,we as students are open and able to take advantage of the wisdom of experience.

In sum, I feel honored to know Master Gohring and to call him ?Sifu? and would vouch for his integrity and ability as a teacher without reservation.

I invite everyone to come visit Master Gohring's Tai Chi & Kung Fu!

Pros: family-oriented, quality curriculum, great location

Cons: martial arts is hard work!

In January, my husband and I decided it was time to get our four year old son involved in a social/physical activity. We had heard good things about Master Gohring and thought we should give his school a try. The three of us were given a free lesson together to give us a small taste of what the school is all about. My husband and son were signed up that day and started Kung Fu classes the next week. I, however, hesitated and wasn't so sure about Kung Fu. Then, Master Gohring introduced me to Tai Chi. He invited me to observe the beginner class to see if it was something I thought I'd like to do. I observed then started lessons that week. After the first lesson, I was hooked. I look forward to every lesson. This week marks a month since I started Tai Chi at Master Gohring's Tai chi and Kung Fu and have already noticed a difference in my overall well being. I am more flexible, sleep better at night and the usual aches and pains aren't as frequent or severe. Besides the physical improvements, my family has a common interest we all enjoy. Master Gohring has a saying, "The family that kicks together, sticks together." He is dedicated to strengthening families through martial arts and is sincere about it. I am very happy with our decision to attend Master Gohring's Kung Fu and Tai Chi and would highly recommend it to anyone that is considering studying martial arts.

My primary goal to studying T?ai Chi was to find sources of relaxation relief from my high-stress work environment without turning to the most commonly source of medication as some of my coworkers have. Since I started playing T?ai Chi in August of 2004 with Master Gohring?s T?ai Chi & Kung Fu, I have been amazed of the impact it has made in my everyday life. I am breathing better, moving more freely and my posture has improved. Overall I am feeling stronger mentally and physically which impacts me spiritually as well. My stress level has continued yet with the practice of T?ai Chi, I feel better equipped to handle most anything thrown in my direction, the ultimate T?ai Chi move, no pun intended. Each class gives me much to look forward to as learning with the other students is fun, safe and always fresh. Master Gohring takes great care in his instruction as to not to overwhelm us and yet keeps us all interested in perfecting each individual move. Mastering T?ai Chi is truly a journey of which I am glad to be a part of and it?s comforting in knowing it?s something I can continue to do even when I reach 102 years old, unlike some other sports and activities I?ve been involved in. I recommend Master Gohring's T'ai Chi and Kung Fu to anyone who is looking for a better quality of life whether it's an internal or external martial art, the choice is yours, he has both to offer you.

I've been studying Tai Chi at Master Gohring's school for about 2.5 years. I went in looking for an exercise program because I was getting older and needed something to do on a regular basis. What I ended up discovering was so much more. The ideas of yin/yang and balance were foreign concepts to me, but i began to see them when I would do my Tai Chi. I definitely felt better and healthier. I definitely noticed a change in my body. However, I soon began to realize that the principles of Tai Chi apply in my everyday life as well. That Tai Chi is more than just a martial art or exercise, it's a process of personal transformation. The lessons learned have definitely helped me strike a better balance in my personal and professional life in terms of stress reduction and hours spent working. It was (and still is) a very refreshing change. Master Gohring teaches Tai Chi as a complete martial art -- from the philosophical foundations, to the empty-hand and weapons forms, as well as the applications and sparring exercises. The complete approach to Tai Chi is also what makes it a powerful tool for personal transformation. In response to a couple of the posts below regarding money, I think of it as a personal investment (and one very worth making with tremendous benefits). It's common place to invest in a home, invest in stock, even invest in a car. Investing in an opportunity to improve your health and change your outlook on life should be a no brainer -- no matter the cost. Without a doubt, a short-term investment in yourself now can certainly pay long-term dividends. For me, the experience and decision to take Tai Chi at Master Gohring's has been great. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in getting the most out of Tai Chi (and life), but understand that willingness, commitment and investment are crucial and necessary to achieve transformation.

I've been a student with Master Gohring's Tai Chi & Kung Fu here in Austin for just about two years, I started out just looking to get rid of some frustration and a few pounds but what I found was much more. The Instructor and his staff were so kind they had and still have great attitudes and are super motivators, never letting me quit or give up when I get frustrated with myself but Master Gohring also does not push and is very serious about knowing your body and knowing when to stop and to pace yourself. I have asthma and for years I have used an inhaler at least four maybe five times a day, but since I have been in Tai Chi doing the breathing excercises and Chi Kung now I use the inhaler maybe once a day. On top of being a relaxing environment and fun the excercises are good for your mind and body, the curriculum can be hard sometimes but I look forward every day to going to class, the friends I have made at the academy are so positive and make being in class even better. I have become so additicted to the martial arts that I am taking Kung Fu as well as Tai chi with Master Gohring.

Three words to remember with this school: Bring.Your.Wallet. I agree with the poster down below, you are constantly being told to extend an already lengthy contract, take more classes, buy more uniforms, buy equipment, enter contests, pay specialists to come and teach (which isn't such a bad thing I guess, but isn't that what you are already paying for?). Also, I'm not impressed with the fact that an owner would come on here and rate his own business (see earlier review of himself posted by the owner.) Is that what this forum is for, really?
Overall, I just found this to be a not good experience. I find it reprehensible that the ONLY way to earn a black belt at this place is to have to join special clubs that-guess what? COST MORE MONEY. Your success at this school is directly related to how much money you are willing to spend. Maybe that's standard at martial arts schools nowadays, but I've been to others and it wasn't like this.

Master Gohring has a very relaxed and approachable style. His school teaches the traditions of martial arts like respect and courtesey, and he has created a very positive community of students that suppot each other in their martial arts journey. Along with Yang style Tai Chi, students learn a Qi Gong system that enhances their mastery of the form. Students learn applications of the postures and several forms of push-hands. Learning Tai Chi with Master Gohring has been a life changing experience for me.

If you are looking to change your life and take lessons in T?ai Chi or Kung Fu, you could look further but not find a better school than Master Gohrings T?ai Chi & Kung Fu of Austin TX. I have been taking lessons in T?ai Chi for more than a year now and it has changed my life, I just received my Green Sash back in December of 2006 (that?s about a third of the way to Black Sash) and even though I have only been studying for just over a year, my life, my body, and my spirit has been transformed. I have lost over 20 pounds and have taken 2 inches off my waist with the training I have received under Master Gohring.

If you are looking to reduce stress in your life, tone up your body, and just live a healthier life style, Master Gohrings T?ai Chi and Kung Fu is the place where your life can be transformed too.

I grew up in Austin, Texas. I began my training in Tai Chi and Kung Fu 20 years ago. After only 1 year of training and at the age of 15 my teacher recognized my talent as an instructor and I was the one my teacher had work with new students. In 1989 at age 17, I finished my Black Sash training. That same year my teacher opened up a school across the street from the original Whole Foods Market. He said, "Your teaching Kung Fu, your teaching Tai Chi and your in charge of the Kids Martial Arts Program." I said, "Yes, Sir." In 1991 I became a certified instructor. I am currently the president of the national black sash association as a 5th degree black sash teacher. I have dedicated my life to helping students and families grow strong together.

The philosophy here is not what you get to do, but who you get to become. There are different levels of training available in both tai chi and kung fu depending on your level of committment to learning the arts. Master Gohring is very dedicated to the enrichment of his students, child and adult, and he has one on one interaction with all of them. You get traditional training in a modern atmosphere that also embodies the spiritual aspects and life mastery elements of the martial arts. The students and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Honestly, the training is worth every penny.

The sales pressure you feel right after you join is ridiculous. Basically, the gist here is that you can not advance past a certain point in rank without 'joining' special clubs or extending an already long term contract. The main instructor is also the owner and comes off as very disingenuine because of the high pressure sales. The formality and approach sucks all the spirituality right out of this.

Decent traditional Kung Fu instruction. Very good Tai Chi instruction. Personable and fun classes. A bit too much business for my taste. I felt like I was always supposed to sign up for things or buy additional equipment. Lots of hoops to jump through for advancement. Business and advancement structure gets in the way of the teaching sometimes.
