My son had his field trip earlier this year and they were able to have a host help him and his class make slime and talk about how it is made. Really cool place to check out at least once.

This is an incredible museum right in our backyard--if your kids have any curiousity in science, they have it all! Dinosaurs, hands on activities. A great place to spend the day.

If you want an alternative to the exploratorium the Lawernce Hall of Science has some activities that rival, if not beat exhibits at the exp. My favorites include a mystery room where you use really simple forensic science to determine a guilty member of a panel. They regularly have special exhibits which are excellent quality and lots of fun. The drive up is a little long and treacherous but this place is definetly worth going to and getting a yearly pass
