Yes, there are both straight and gay self-identified people in the world. Thank you for sharing your views. I hope it was cathartic for all concerned. A nice unbiased review of the bar would be much appreciated. I don't know what this

you know, i'm a hetero gal who grew up here and i am astounded and disgusted by the anti het reviews i have read here! and you wonder why you lost the support of everyone for prop 8!! seriously!! there are more important things in the world to focus your anger on. get a clue and get a life. i'm sorry people have treated you unfairly and that you for some reason think that hets are horrible people, even though you wouldn't be alive without mom and dad boinkin! but do not encourage and continue hate and discrimination, especially not in MY city! i was born and raised here, i like so many san franciscans have fought for human and civil rights and the last thing i need is some angry little faerie who can't get booty on a friday night taking out his anger on me and other hets! if it's so bad here, come to my neighborhood and hang out at the frickin hole in the wall....prmoise..i won't "infect" that place!

Pros: it's nice to get out of my neighborhood

Cons: it's a treck from my house

Dansbee1, what you wrote is disgusting. While I do not fall into the frat boy category, I, and the majority of the world population, fall into the heterosexual category and I am offended. I want to ask you this: What would happen if I wrote something like that but inserted gay instead of heterosexual? How would you like that? You are ignorant.

has great mojitos! fresh and a variety! and i'm normally not a drinker. if you dont think about how the cheeses, olives and vegetables were left out the whole night, it's pretty cool haha i havent gotten sick from it yet! :P

only thing i dont like about it is how crowded it can get. otherwise, great hang out!

What a shame. Once a nice gay bar, it's been invaded by (ugh) heterosexuals -- the fratboy and sorority element, at that. Don't these people have enough places to go without dragging our institutions down to their disgusting levels?

Pros: It's been in business a long time

I'm a gay, high end, professional businessman from Las Vegas, and I've been coming to the Lion Pub for about ten years, every time I'm in the City. I certainly regret that the gay character (mostly gay, professional males who live in the area) has beem deminished over the recent years, but at the same time, I'm fascinated to see this "discovery" of a great bar by the apparently straight, female professional class (and there boyfriends), as if it was all something brand new. The Lion Pub was a great bar ten years ago, and I'm sure will remain so (under present ownership) for many years to come. It's fun to hear the Ladies rave about fresh ingredients (ambience, etc.), when many bars have been using fresh lemons, limes & pineapples for an awfully long time. Gee, Gals, you really do need to get out more. Fortunately for the Pub, the Ladies are so together & professional that they would never think to stay in a bar beyoud nine o'clock, thus giving room for the decadent fellas. I've little doubt, that if we get a female president (much to be wished for ), you girls will discover a whole new San Francisco openning up to you. The bottom line is, the Lion Pub is a small gem, and now that gem is known throughout San Francisco. We who love her, give to the City, the Lion Pub as a gift. Who knew?

Pros: Ambience, Bartenders, Service, Location

Cons: Happy Hour Often Too Popular

.

This used to be a quaint little gay bar that served as adjunct to the Alta Plaza. Now it is a glittery cheese bar with a arrested devoloped post graduate frat crowd. On weekend that horrible crowd is packed cheek to jowel with the cheap intoxication of Calvin Klein's One. Banana Republic attire suggested. The charm of the former bar can be imagined if you look to the walls and try to tune out the blazing pop music and cheap colorful cocktails dripping on titts already pouring out of their owners blouses. YUK

This bar is awesome any day of the week. If you're looking for a chill after work spot mon-fri, you can always find a seat. While it gets crowded on the weekends, it's a great scene to come with a group of friends or just for a date. Fresh squeezed greyhounds, screwdrivers and fresh fruit mojitos.
The bartenders are always working hard squeezing and muddling the drinks. The ambiance is cool, a dimly lit room with lots of plants and seating.
Whatever you're looking for there is a time of week for you here at the bar. I love to come here during the week so that it isn't so crowded, but that's just what I like out of a bar.

Pros: Fresh fruit drinks, mood, secretly hidden away

Cons: parking, cash only

The bartenders and their little entourage are irritating. Too many college newbies running around turning this once classy bar into a bad fraternity party. Service can be slow and the crowd is just unappealing in its immature nature. Only recommended to the immature at heart.

Pros: Fruity Mojitos

Lions Pub is a great spot for a week night drink. It's always crowded, they usually have a spread of free appetizers, and the fruity drinks are the best. However, if you're looking to dance this is not your place - a) it's too crowded and b) you can't really hear any music. Oh, and unfortunately they only take cash - so come prepared!

This dual function bar is part neighboorhood chill bar with lots of cozy tables, a fireplace, and free cheese and fruit bar... and part pick-up scene with its dim lights, long bar, and abundance of preppy pac heights boys ready to talk to the pretty girls as they order drinks. As for drinks, their signature fresh squeeze Greyhound is fabulous and surprisingly not overpriced at $5. The decor is hard to desribe... part jungle theme with lots of plants and wood furniture and part old men's club room with gold ornaments and animal statues

As for the crowd, it trends a little older than the marina, but definitely still a preppy crowd.

Great drinks and a good crowd. I am not so sure about the cheese that has been sitting out all night though.

This Pac Hts bar is grear for groups and couples alike. The tables by the fireplace fill quickly, especially if it's cold, but are great if you can stake out a few for your group. Another perk is the free hors d'oerves spread of olives, carrots, salmon, etc. that's laid out for all to snack on.

The ambience is pretty cool. My husband and I had a lot of fun hangning out by the fireplace and thought the decor was relaxed but still quite chic. The only thing that was a dissapointment was my drink...it wasn't just bad but quite disgusitng. They tried to pass off a VERY cheap vodka and half crushed watermelon as an exotic fresh fruit cocktail delicacy. Go, but I would stick with beer or wine.

The Lion is a great place to come and have some good drinks in a relaxing place. I always have a fun time and they make the best greyhounds anywhere. The fresh fruit juice is amazing. I agree with the other reviews also, it is a great place to take a date or meet new people.

The lions is a great place to have a party, the atmosphere is great, the drinks are strong, and the crowd was fun. We had my birthday party here last Thursday and it was a ball. We brought in about 25 people and everyone had a great time and also tied one on. The fresh fruit drinks are remarkable, if I were you I would try the GREYHOUND. The place was so nice to reserve our party a section for us for no cost and provided free appetizers. You can't go wrong here.

I've been to the lion on a few different nights now, and it's quickly becoming my favorite bar in the city. Their crazy strawberry and blueberry mojitos are almost enough to make me forget that summer in SF is cold & foggy. Love how the women get dressed up in there, too.
Take a cab though, because parking is tough and the fruit drinks are so good that you might forget how drunk you are.

I go here when I'm feeling low key and want to share a couple drinks/stories w/ friends.. while sitting at a table! Been here several times and I've never had a problem grabbing a seat, even on the weekend (well, i've only gone on Fri's...). No dress code and they play good house.. AND they serve complimentary snacks (sushi, crackers, cheese...), no fee to get in!

This place was great, my girlfriends and I had my birthday party here last weekend, and it was great. The people were nice enough to reserve us a space without charge and the drinks they make are so tasty. I always knew about the greyhounds, but they have awesome flavored mojitos, which are so fresh and tasty. I can't say thank you enough to the bar staff, and I would recommend having your birthday here. Try the mojitos, they are worth it.

I hate to disagree with all these reviews, but I feel like I was at a different bar. After driving by this funky looking, vine wrapped, no-name outside bar that we just had to finally go in, we were VERY dissappointed. Us 30 somethings thought we had landed at a frat party for high schooler's. I can see if you are a young 20 someting looking to hook up it might be a great place to find a good looking and clean partner, but for those of us who just wanted to enjoy a good martini and chat with our LA friend, we drank as quickly as we could and left dissappointed.

I went to the lion pub a few weeks ago for a work party. What a bar! The already spectacular mojitos now have fresh raspberries if you want! The hottie next to me got addicted to the fresh blackberry lemon drops. She made me try it before I even knew her name! Everyone left happy and a little tipsy, and we all made some friends that we didn't have before. Love the lion!

I was at the Lion Pub last week, last night, and I'll be going back again soon - probably tonight. After searching high and low in SF for a decent screwdriver, I have to say that the Lion's takes the cake. No OJ from concentrate - they squeezed fresh oranges, right in front of me! Love the cheese and cracker thing too. How come no one ever told me about this place before?

If you are looking for a terrific Mojito, this is the place to come. I came for my best friends birthday party and by the end of it, I must of had 5 mojitos. They are fresh and so good. I feel sorry for the bartenders, our group must of ordered 40 or more. Everyone there took care of us and were so nice, thanks again. Try the Mojito!

If I had to pick one bar in SF as my favorite, it would be The Lion. Everytime I come here, you run into the best crowds, drinks, and company. I still can't believe all of the hot and beautiful women that come into here. If you come in alone, don't worry the crowds and bartenders are very friendly and willing to spark up a conversation. Cheers.

The nightlife in SF has been off lately, but this place is always full of some of the most beautiful and fun people around. I love this place because you can have a great time at any time you come here, while people are driving around to find a popular place, the people who know are already here. Bring your friends and lets have a fun time. Another Greyhound please.

I was at the Lion Pub last weekend for a friend's going away party. The place was packed with talent by 10:00, I never waited more than a minute for the best greyhounds I've ever had, and after I thought it couldn't get any better, someone brought out a huge cheese tray, smoked salmon plate, and I don't even know what kind of dip. Unbelievable! I never knew that places like this existed. Kudos to whoever's in charge - I'll be there for my birthday next weekend, no doubt!!!

Using citysearch often to find out what is going on in the city, I came across the Lion and I couldn't be happier. This place has a great atmosphere, drinks, and is one of the busiest places I have been to in a while. On thursday the place was packed and the energy of the bar was great. After having a few drinks they brought out this great free food spread and it made me want to stay for a few more drinks. It was a hit with my friends and I and I can not wait to go back. Cheers.

Alright, so here's a word of advice from an S.F. native...the Lion Pub is one of the best neighborhood bars in the city. I've been coming here for years and the place never ceases to amaze me....The staff have always been some of the best bartenders in the city (and some of the cutest) and the bar packs in some of San Francisco's most beautiful people. The ratio of girls to guys here is about 4 to 1, but the boys that come along are enough to me keep coming back...and with the great drinks and all that fresh fruit flying around..it seems like a hot little piece of paradise in the middle of the city

This is the greatest place in the greatest city that has it all. If you want tasty (not too pricy) drinks, a great atmosphere, and gorgeous women everywhere...THIS IS IT! The bartenders are really awesome and they work wonders with the fresh juice drinks. And the cheese and cracker platter that's brought out for everyone to enjoy is awesome! perfect spot on a week night for a date or to just have a nice quiet drink by the fire place. From now on I'm coming here with more friends each time. This place really sets it off on the weekends!

Hey everybody, just wanting to put my two cents in about one of my favorite places to party on the weekend. This place has some of the best drinks in town and a great crowd to hang out with. Try some of the exotic fruit drinks, trust me when you walk in, you won't be able to miss them and if you are lucky, maybe you can sit near the fireplace. That is a personal favorite of mine.

The Lion is in a class by itself. Their drinks are all made with fresh fruit, they don't cost that much, and every time I've been there I noticed many hot and beautiful women. In all my San Francisco bar hopping, I've never been to such a high end place with such a laid back atmosphere - the bartenders aren't snobby at all. I'll be back there soon, that's for sure.

I threw a bachelorette party at the Lion Pub last weekend for my oldest best friend in the city. We couldn't have asked for a better experience! I talked the the bar manager only a couple of days before and he arranged for the Lion's famous cheese platters to be brought down just in time for our entrance. The spinach dip was to die for, and I think I could write a whole review just on their fresh fruit drinks! Blackberries, honeydew, watermelon... I need more than 150 words to properly describe how great the Lion Pub is, but for now, I'll just say - go there, now! It must be experienced to be believed!

Pros: amazing free snacks, best drinks in SF, quality service

Cons: parking - take a cab

.

This is such a comfortable place with a great vibe and atmosphere. It was my first time at the Lion, and I definitely won't be my last. This great place is so low-key and inviting, that I didn't want to leave. I was lucky enough to get a fireplace seat and great drinks while it was crowded last weekend. It was nice being able to ask the bartender for a drink recommendation and not be let down. Come try this place soon, I might run in to you there.

Hands down, the best mojitos in town. These guys (and girl) know what they're doing. You want great drinks and even better mojitos, this is the place. Everyone that works there is very attentive and they really can read your mind when it comes to how stiff you want your drink. The cheese and cracker platter is the best anywhere 'cause no other bar has it. I made last minute plans to have a party there and not only did they have the open space for us, but they even brought out the the cheese when we got there. Hands down, if you want the best drinks made (everything is fresh squeezed) by the best bartenders for the best clientel, The Lion Pub is the last Zion of great bars in San Francisco.

Pros: fresh squeezed drinks, the ladies, did i mention ladies?

Cons: parking, parking, parking

The Lion was hot this weekend. I was there on Thursday and Saturday and had an incredible time. It is a great place to go to meet some fun people (as well as good looking), a fun place and the best place to get a greyhound anywhere. I can't wait to go back there to have another great weekend.

I've been going to the Lion for a few years now. Their greyhounds and screwdrivers are easily the best in town. No contest. I gotta say though, their newer drinks are killing everyone in the city! Blueberry mojitos? Peach and Cantaloupe margaritas? All of them with fresh fruit? Fuhgeddaboutit! The place is setting new standards every time I walk in there. Nice work guys and gals.

I was amazed at how easy it was to book a party on such short notice. The bartenders and the bar manager were so nice and accomodating. I thought it was going to be a quiet little bar that we would just stop in to get our party started but this place was awesome! We ended up staying there the whole night...who wouldn't stay with fresh squeezed drinks and hot guys!

This is the best bar in the city!!!! Nothing beats freshly squeezed greyhounds. Plus the bartenders are fun and the music is bumpin'. You can't go wrong at this spot on any night of the week.

This place is a hidden jewel in the city. The drinks are great, the service is remarkable, and the place has a great crowd on the downlow. The free hor dourves are a great bonus and the amount of good looking men, as well as women will have me coming back.

I recently threw a going away party for a co-worker at the Lion Pub. When I called, they told me they'd have a special cheese platter set up for the party. I didn't think anything of it until we arrived to smoked salmon, five types of cheese, and the most fresh guacamole I've ever seen in one place! All for free! Thanks go out to the bartenders for their amazing fresh-squeezed screwdrivers, and whoever made that amazing guacamole, all I can say is wow. I'm throwing all my parties there from now on.

I've always thought of the Lion Pub as an chill after-work spot, mostly for the classy cheese platter and perfect Goose martinis. However, I was there last Friday night for a friend's birthday and was amazed at the scene - the place was packed with hotties! What got me most was how quick the bartenders got to everyone. I never thought of the Lion as a late night spot but now I know better. Gotta love those fresh mojitos...

I was at the Lion the other night, and realized as I looked around, that this was the best group of good-looking people I had been around in a long time. It made me feel very hip to be part of it, which is no mean feat for someone like me (over 40). The bar itself is lovely, too, with fresh flowers and the fireplace. The hors d'oeuvres are excellent. Of course I'm biased because the owner is my friend, but this is just a great place.

This is my favorite bar in the city. I am so glad that I have friends that live in Pacific Heights, so we can walk to our favorite place to hang out on the weekends. The atmosphere is so inviting, the drinks are great (they even make mojitos!), the staff is very friendly and inviting, and you can't beat the good-looking singles who frequent The Lion. This is definitely the place to go with your friends or a date to have a great time. Next time you are there, ask for a greyhound or a mojito, they make the best in the city.

not a bar i would normally go to, due to the lack of dancing and the older "yuppie" crowd. the mix of people was refreshing and the drinks were reasonably priced. moljitos were a pleasant surprise because not many bar serve this drink. the free food platter of chips, crackers, cheese and dip was a definitely plus and gave me something to do/eat. i just wonder about the cleaniness of the communal food.

Squeeze all fruit juices in drinks right in front of you(except pineapple), make great mojitos, bartenders are o.k., but too cocky. They have a great food platter w/ cheeses, crackers, dips, spreads, olives, FOR FREE!!!! It gets really crowded from about 1130-close on weekends so arrive early or go on a weekday. Sometimes have a DJ, and sometimes is a cover. I'm glad to have this place in my neighborhood---very unique and cozy

Definitely one of the more "interesting" bars in the city. Diverse crowd, good drinks (they squeeze oranges right in front of you for screwdrivers and other o.j. drinks), nice staff. They have a fireplace that makes it cozy. Can be a bit odd feeling sometimes, and can get Marina style crowds on trolleys in to check out the crowd, but overall a good place.

There's no sign outside this corner bar, only an abundance of foliage. Dim track lighting helps cast an orange glow over the mirror-backed bar, which advertises daily specials. On the left, plants and a couple of lion statues surround…
