I've been to the Coral Room many times w/family & friends and have
almost always enjoyed their food. Happy hour is from 5-6:30 and they have a wonderful selection plus their happy hour items are 2 for 1 and wine and beer are half off. Such a deal! We often join friends there on Fridays and the scene is cool and hip. We're considered old fogeys at 53 and 60, but what the hey! Our money is well spent here. On Monday nights, wine by the bottle is half off, and w/the new brown bag law, you can have a glass and take the rest home in the bottle. Some wonderful wines can be sampled this way and their riesling (can't recall label) was delightful, even though my husband likes his red wine. For summer though you can't beat the outside for hanging out and people watching which in Highlands is great.

We ate at the Coral Room last night and, for the most part, had a great experience. We live in Wash Park, so it was a little bit of a trek to get there on a Friday night. However, we were immediately seated upon arrival. I had heard about the playroom and was looking forward to seeing it. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the decor does change a bit from the front of the restaurant to the family room. The family room is still nicely decorated, however. The room accommodates about nine tables and there's a 10x15-ish play area in the back of the room. In the play area, there is a rubber/plastic turtle that kids can climb on, a small TV playing videos and lots of random toys. The host asked us if we'd like to be seated at the table closest to the play area, as we had a choice between that and a table toward the middle of the room. We chose the one closes to the play area.

I ordered the tuna burger and my husband had the duck legs. My husband felt that the menu was a little chi-chi and limited but I had trouble deciding what to have. I will admit that the prices are a little high. Most entries are around $20. The kids meals are $4.95, but we didn't even bother ordering anything for our 2 1/2 year old because I was sure he'd probably be playing the whole time.

I really enjoyed my tuna burger. I ordered it pan seared and it came with potato strings. The tuna steak came on a ciabatta bun but the steak was so big I couldn't eat it as a burger. My husband liked his lamb but he had to send it back because two of the leg chops were rare and he ordered them medium.

The service was just okay. They have one server for the whole room so a couple of times we had to wait to get her attention. The host is good about coming around and helping the server out, though.

Finally, I think they must have noise-deadeners in the room because the room wasn't very loud, depite having about eight kids playing, a large party next to us and a full room overall. I liked the clientele in the room. All of the other parents appeared to be young/upper middle class but not snobby.

After dinner, we strolled around the little shopping area at Stapleton.

We'll definitely be back to the Coral Room. I thought it was perfect for families who have small children but don't want to eat at Chucky Cheese.
