I was very pleasantly surprised by Mounts. Not only is the admission free, but it offers a beautiful place for peace and reflection in such a busy area. Although it is really close to Military Trail, the noise from the road does not get inside much. Inside are a scent and rose garden (which is just as beautifully scented as it is to look at), a butterfly garden, an herb garden, and many others. Whether you are going alone or with others, it is definitely worth the trip!

For being in such a rich and warm place, I was disgusted to see such a weedy, unkempt mish-mash of plants scattered here and there.

It's as though no one has watered or fertilized things. Even in the rainy seasons plants looked sick. Also, other areas were filled iwth perennials and other smaller plants that needed deadheading or simply cleaning. How many plants can you let grow wildly and crowd out other things? There are gingers and elephant ears growing in full sun in sandy dry soil!!!! Can't anyone else see the plants are screaming for attention?

The structures were filthy with soot or something, and Military Trail is a skanky road. Being right by the airport, there were times I thought a jet was going to land on top of us.

Never actually see a gardener working, you just aimlessly roam.
After seeing this place, also then visited a place called Pan's Garden on Palm Beach, with all natives. In huge contrast to Mounts Botanical Garden, Pan's was lush and well-kept.

Also then went to the American Orchid Society further south. A bit nicer layout and facility, orchid greenhouse was very worthwhile. But the outside gardens looked kinda like at Mounts. You can see lack of attention, watering and fertilizing. ALso a bit disappointing, but definitely better than Mounts.

What's wrong with you, West Palm Beach? Shocked this is a University of FLorida site. I'ts a DUMP.

Mounts is small, but has a wide variety of plants, trees and flowers to look at and learn about. I really enjoy taking my son there. We walk around slowly and take everything in. There are benches placed around so we can sit and just look at the natural beauty around us.
During my first visit there, I was amazed by the beauty of all of the plants and flowers. Now, things seem so bare. It is sad to see so much hurricane damage at Mounts. The employees are working hard to rebuild, but it is going to take a very long time.

PROS: Educational and beautiful
CONS: Hurricane damage
