Insider Pages Reviews for Jocko's Steak House

Ratings_icons Jocko's Steak House is the best steak house

Jocko's atmosphere is not what you'd expect from the best steakhouse ever. Go casual. Not to pricey for the amount of food you'll get. You'll have at least an hour wait, but soooo worth it. BEST STEAK EVER!

LOVE little Jockos and Big Jockos... We have been coming here for years, great steaks and reasonably priced. They also have a good selection for children which is nice.

Do you like a good steak but don't necessarily want to pay over $50 for it? Try Jocko's if you're in the Nipomo area. My wife and I had the spencer steak (hers medium, mine rare). The 4 inch thick steak grilled over red oak was fabulous. Be careful not to chow down too much on the relish plate and bread that come before the meal or you won't be able to put away the main course. We had no room for dessert, so I can't comment on that. Our 6-year old daughter liked her spaghetti, but this place caters to beef lovers.

Get there early or make a reservation. We got there at 4:30 PM and were seated within 10 minutes, but the line behind us was long.

The decor is "quaint" or spartan, depending on your point of view. This is no swanky date restaurant-- it's a cinder block building containing benches covered with red-checkered plastic tablecloths.

Ratings_icons A local tradition for steak.

Jocko's has been serving up hearty steaks grilled over an open Oak barbeque for years. The locals all love this place.
While the steaks are quite good, I think Jocko's is over-rated. A good steak here runs about $25. But the restaurant is over-crowded with tables, the service is spartan, and restaurant is run down. The experience is suited to rugged cattle ranchers, oil drillers, and retirees who come in driving their pick up trucks. The atmosphere is a hoot, and the people are fun. But for that kind of money, you can get good steak in more elegant surroundings. Try Shaw's or the Hitching Post in Casmalia.
