So great! This place is open till 2 AM! The Tom Yum Soup was so tasty. It was a bit spicy but so worth it. The pad thai was really good and authentic and I loved the Thai Ice Tea.

Adequate Thai in Thai Town

by Michael K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,427

If you're looking for fairly basic thai in a clean restaurant with slightly more personality than other nearby places, check this place out. On a weekend night, do not even try to park in their lot. It's a mess; just find street parking.

BEST FOOD EVER

by cand1cexlee

i love the place, the food is the best thai food i've ever had. The panang curry and the spicy fried rice is my favorite. Their delivery service is fast and always on time. After raving about this place, it is the new favorite of all of my friends and family.

The only concern I have (which has nothing to do with the food) is that none of the waiters, waitresses, and cashiers speak very good english.

But other than that....this is one of my top restaurant picks, hands down!

Pros: amazing food, great price, delivery

Excellent Thai

by nskip

Some friends of mine took me out to LA the other day for Thai food and it was so worth the trip. We had a number of dishes, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Volcano Chx, Spicy Fried Rice (not so keen on this one had a weird spice that didn't quite sit right with me) Reg. Fried Rice, Chx Satay, Tom Yum Soup (too spicy for me, but still tasty) and sticky rice with mango. Everything was delish and the service was excellent. Parking was a bit weird (valet to drive your car a foot) but thats LA I guess, and only 3 bucks so no big deal.

very mediocre

by rachelaschwartz

we got take out from RCA, so we can't comment on the service. the food was mediocre - i'd stay away from the seafood all together. tom yum was flavorless as was chicken satay. papaya salad wasn't bad, but the shrimps were kind of gnarly (we asked them for no shrimp, though something was lost in communication). drunken noodles were entirely passable. cheap, but i don't think i'd go back even for the price.

Pros: cheap

Cons: food

Amazing Thai

by redgeisha

The three dishes we got as first timers to RCA was Panang Curry Chicken, Angel Wings and Crab Pad Thai. I have to say all three dishes were excellent! We asked for spicy and indeed we got SPICY! RCA is a bit far for us but we will definitely make a worthwhile trip once a month to dine there. Best of all, we found a Thai supermarket nearby and we got our Thai Tom Yum Ramen. It's a must try for Thai food lovers!

Pros: Tasty authentic spicy Thai food

Cons: Not the best neighborhood in LA area

I've been to Red Corner Asia several times. The service is ok, however the foods are outstanding. I'd recommend the Crispy Duck Larb or Papaya Salad.

Cons: Unnecessary Valet Parking Service

Overall, a satisfying experience

by porkjello

The video on Citysearch was compelling enough for me to give this place a try. I took my here for my wife's birthday and we ordered a bunch of dishes. Of the things we tried, the dishes I would order again are the volcano chicken (just cause it's on fire and fairly tasty), the crab pad thai (our favorite dish), crispy duck with panang curry (it's a bit spicy), the chinese broccoli and crispy pork, the fried rice and the tom yum soup. I wasn't a huge fan of the steamed mussels and my niece did not care too much for the spare ribs. The food is good but the service could have been a little better. We were waiting awhile before they took our order but after that, everything was ok. The decor of the restaurant was nice and the prices for the dishes were as good as all the other Thai restaurants in the Hollywood area.

The place is open 'til 2am and I'll definitely be coming back just for the crab pad thai.

Pros: Nice menu variety. Crab Pad Thai. Comfortable atmosphere

Cons: Parking and inconsistent service

Progressive and Traditional

by geralfi

I am a foodservice proffesional and am often highly critical about Asian establishments, but RCA stands out. I've eaten there twice and both times the food was excellent. My wife is Thai and adamant as to what qualifies as Thai food or Thai food for Farangs, which is the source of many culinary arguments between us. The menu covers an array of traditional Thai dishes that equivocally "Thai Soul food" as well as the those that are still traditional but influenced by Japanese, Chinese, and Indian cuisines. I've eaten those too many times to feel adventurous so I ordered the Volcano chicken, One of RCA's signature dishes. I also ordered the Rad Na for my wife's sake, and the Angel wings, because I had still yet to try those. Each dish was amazing. The Angel wings Trump any buffalo wings from any sports bar, grill, or Pizza parlor anywhere, hands down. The Rad Na was as good as any I have had and generous in portion size. The Volcano chicken though was something to behold. The Presentation was dramatic to say the least, and our servers dexterity was put to the test as she maneuvered through the tables with a whole chicken being licked with flames on a sizzle plate. The chicken was stuffed with assorted vegtables and were not overcooked mush. The chicken was moist, and the skin was saturated with flavor that I imagined was brandy or soju which must have also been used to create the flaming presentation. My wife loved it too. It was unarguably not a fusion dish, and I won our ongoing debate that New Thai creations are still Thai food thanks to this one dish. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more vegetables stuffed into the fiery bird.
Service could have been better more attentive, but it was not to such a deplorable level to merit any negative complaints. My biggest beef with Asian establishments is having to ask for water at my table. They just keep filling up the glasses here.

Pros: Well lit you can see your food! Lots of seating, progressive/classic dishes

Cons: Service could be improved, this might be a retention problem I've only eaten there twice.

What a disappointment!

by bonnie_mcbride

After reading all of these great reviews, we were really disappointed with the food at RCA. Yes, the decor is a bit cafeteria like and yes, the tv?s are out of place, but if the food was top notch it wouldn?t have mattered. We love Thai food and this was our fourth attempt since moving to LA from San Francisco. The only item remotely good was the chicken coconut soup, which was excellent. The calamari was awful: very fishy and sliced way to thick. The fried tofu was tasteless- seemingly without even any salt and pepper. Salmon was also fishy and overwhelmed by the very low grade shrimps that sat atop it. We really got the feeling that all of the fish products were very low grade. The phad thai was also terrible- and don?t ask me how but it was runny. Definitely will not go back.

Pros: Tom Gha soup

Cons: everything else

Relaxing & Comfortable, an asset to Thai Town

by carl2percival

I live, work and mostly play in Thai Town. This is the best place you can eat comfortably and relax in a more spacious setting, there is room between the tables. I do every week and often see my friends there.
R C A, as it is known by, is a bright modern Thai restaurant with nice fresh flowers and decor. The prices are average, with a well presented variety of fresh, tasty meals, presented to you at your table by pleasantly dressed staff in uniform. Recommended meals ? you chose, my favorite is the Garlic and Pepper Chicken over Broccoli. Also most important to me, the restrooms are friendly to. It gets packed there on a few occasions, to it limit, then you will have to wait a little longer. I don't go to rush any way.
There is valet parking $1 for one hour with validation, don't go over by one minute or it's $3, No validation $6, I nearly always park on the street.

Note. If there is a problem and it's constructive criticism, tell the manager. It's in our interest to keep this place as nice as it is.
If you are always looking to complain or have uncontrollable noisy children, please eat some where else like Mc Donald's or stay home, just don't sit next to me. Thank you !

Pros: Lots

Cons: I do think the wine list needs attention, perhaps a little more variety would help.

I really wanted to like this place

by powpowpow

As a Thai Town resident for 4 years I've tried all of the thai places around here. I went to RCA twice and both times were a let down. Bad service...they practically ignore you. I had to go up and ask for the check myself both times I went. The food is ok...not great. Not as good as a lot of the other thai restaurants. The only thing this restaurant has going for it is that it's trying to look hip. I will never go back there. There are too many amazing thai restaurants within a block from RCA.

Pros: brightly painted

Cons: below average food and service

A Thai restaurant with an open kitchen

by villie1

I love this place! The food was excellent; (try the seafood soup ... delish!), and also the gigantic shrimp that are on the front of the menu. I think it's six in an entree, but you feel full by the 3rd. The service is excellent. The owner is there a lot in the evenings making sure people get treated like royalty. And the prices are very fair. I really love places with open kitchens and I had never been to a Thai restaurant that had one, so this was great! I don't see myself going to any other restaurant when I have a taste for Thai. You should definitely try it!

Pros: Open kitchen, service, flavor, prices

Cons: ???????

Would return

by merrymary99

Fortunately, I did not have the same experience as the reviewer below. In my opinion, I would describe Red Corner Asia as inventive and most definitely unique. I liked the idea of mixing classic thai with modern decor, bringing Thai Glam to Hollywood. Noted for their distinct grill section on the menu, I would recommend the Volcano Chicken which is served on a flaming hot plate! There is also a special grill room in which you can see through to watch the grill master in action. Defintely a plus!

All in all, I would definitely return to Red Corner Asia again. Cheers to them!

Is this it? Does not deserve the high rating...

by ee_me_me

I was visiting LA in August and tried this restaurant based on its high CitySearch rating. And whoa...what a disappointment. Everything was way below average, in my opinion. The food was Thai at its least imaginative (though I will say my Green Curry was satisfactory). We ordered a spring roll appetizer that was disgusting, however. The decor/atmosphere was horrible, like a better-lit food court (well it is in some kind of mini mall, after all) with plasma screen televisions everywhere (WHY?!). Even the menus were not user-friendly and mine had dried crud on the various pages. And don't even get me started on the "service." Did we ever get an actual server or was this some sort of exercise in laissez-faire "teamwork?" AVOID this laughable place.

Pros: Large portions

Cons: Terrible service, unpleasant atmosphere

Tasteless food and poor service

by frostbitten

I was disappointed with Red Corner Asia. The service was poor. The appetizer and one entree arrived together. The other entree didn't show up for nearly five minutes. My entree, prik king with chicken, was spicy but tasteless. The spring rolls were also tasteless. The green curry, however, was good.

Best Overall Thai Restaurant In LA

by thaiaficionado

Located in a small shopping plaza in the heart of Thai Town on Hollywood Blvd a block and a half East of Western Ave., you will find one of the best dining experiences in the country. The restaurant sits to the rear of the shopping plaza and has valet parking (any parking is a rarity in Thai Town). The restaurant has a open eclectically decorated dining area with 2 large flat panel TVs in the room. Part of the kitchen area is fully visible through a large window into the dining room and is always spotlessly clean. The service is friendly and most always good. The food is excellent. They have the best Tom Kha Gai (Spicy Coconut Soup) I've eaten anywhere. Their Crispy Duck in Pannang Curry is outstanding as well. But my favorite dish has to be the Crispy Fried Pork with Chinese Broccoli. The only detracting thing that jumps to my mind about the experience here is the menu itself. The menu has had quite a few deletions over time and have become a tattered mess of deletions and price changes. The managament should really rethink the expensive high gloss menus until they have a stable menu for the restaurant. Besides it is frustrating to spy a tasty looking dish only to find out it not being served any more. Considering the quality and quantity of the food served, Red Corner Asia is probably the best bargain in LA as well. There are restaurants in LA that have better service or more upscale atmosphere, but out of the 25 or so Thai restaurants I've eaten at in LA RCA is the best overall all factors considered. I highly recommend it.

Pros: Great food, atmosphere, service

Cons: Need new menus.

Mediocre at best... Won't return

by daisylind

After reading all the glowing reviews here, I decided to go take my friend to RCA for her birthday, expecting a really great thai experience. Unfortunately, I found just another average thai resturant; ok decor ( a bit sterile; nice colors and some flowers, but the TV is distracting, and you can't really watch any food preparation through the viewing kitchen window ), service was slow and sparse (refills, anyone??), and the food? It was good, but not great. Plus, their liquor license is on hold, so if you want any alochol, skip RCA for the moment. Overall, I was expecting more from these glowing reviews, and can't say I'll go out of my way to visit it again.

Pros: volcano chicken, good parking, hipster

Cons: mediocre food, slow service, plasma tvs everywhere

Thai Perfection

by tychovski

Everything needed for an excellent experience is firmly in place here. Fantastic waitstaff, beautiful decor, and unbelievable food elegantly presented. There is a windowed kitchen where you can watch your meal being prepared, if that doesn't interest you there are discrete flatscreen video monitors positioned on the walls showing a variety of programming. Mellow music quietly plays in the background. Now let's get to the food! The appetizers are not only delicious, but perfectly portioned. I started with the chicken Sa-Tay and a Thai Iced Tea - perfection. For my entree I had the Crispy Duck with Pa-Nang Curry Sauce and was delighted not only by the compliment of seemingly contrasting flavors but also of the amazing texture of the meal. Dessert was the Fried Ice Cream, and was a delightful end to an amazing meal. I can't reccomend this establishment any higher.

Pros: Ample parking, Very affordable, Excellent waitstaff

Great New Restaurant!

by kaitlynj

As an avid food critic, Red Corner Asia is by far one of the best new restaurants out there in Thai Town. Their cuisines, ranging from Golden Shrimp Balls to Crispy Spicy Catfish and Tom Yum Fried Rice, combines the perfect blend from both Eastern and Western cultures resulting in such a unique menu that you can't find anywhere else. A dish I would highly recommend is the Volcano Chicken, served to you on a hot flaming plate, will surely leave you wanting more. The decor and welcoming ambience provides an added touch to this one of a kind eatery.

Red Corner Asia is a true haven for any Thai food lover out there. Guarantee you will fall in love with the place just as much as I did.
