I am so disappointed to be writing this review. I have been a huge fan of Petrol Station since they opened. I live in the neighborhood and have always enjoyed coming here frequently. Unfortunately, I will not be back after my most recent

Great burgers: try the lamb. Beer selection is also one of the city's best. The patio is huge and the whole place has a neighborhood vibe.

The only thing going for this place is IPA's. Service is non-existant unless you know someone. Two hamburgers took 1hour & 10 minutes to arrive and they weren't really busy at at the time. I give it one big yawn.

I have been a semi - regular at this pub for about 6 months now. It has almost all the ingredients for a great neighborhood bar. The food is decent and the beer selection is ample. The bartenders would even remember my name and my tastes in beer sometimes. Unfortunately, this place has one fatal flaw that will prevent me from returning there. The bartenders are intermittently completely indifferent and rude. I notice that they seem to serve patrons in order of "rank", not on a first come first serve basis. I have been passed over for other patrons who arrived at the bar after me multiple times during a single attempt to order. When I try to get a bartender's attention, they seem to be annoyed, or will continue to ignore me! After the third incident I realized this behavior wasn't a fluke. I don't like wondering if I will be treated with common courtesy when I spend my hard- earned money at an establishment. I agree with another poster who calls it an " inner sanctum reserved for the 'boys at the bar' "

I'll be slumming it over at the Catty- Corner a block over where the people are friendly. Who knows, maybe they have wi-fi.

Since discovering Petrol less than a year ago, my boyfriend and I have slowly been trying to ingrain ourselves into the cozy set of regulars. Just this past week, when we were offered a free pint of oatmeal stout just because we, as stout lovers, "had to try it!" I think we accomplished that goal.
Tucked away in the largely residential Independence Heights, Petrol serves as a mecca for local craft brew aficionados. Non-beer enthusiasts are rare amongst the patrons, so great conversation flows with the bartenders and amongst the crowd. The owners, passionate godfathers of Texan micro-brew that they are, do their best to obtain rare casks and tap the finest limited edition brews around. They also bring in the brewers for special events such as their American Craft Brew Week speaker series.
Appetites eagerly awoken by tasty brews will not go unabetted here, where pub classics such as Shepherd's Pie and giant flavorful burgers never fail to satisfy. My favorite is the heavy Rancor Burger, topped with a marvelously runny fried egg.
I've also seen a few brunch menus posted to their chalkboard, something they've started doing every few weekends. I haven't been able to stop thinking of the stout battered Monte Cristo that I saw on the menu.
In short, the only thing I don't love about Petrol Station is that I didn't found and do not own this place.

Pros: Rotating selection of craft beers on tap, great bar food

Cons: Can get a bit crowded inside, line for the bathroom

.

I went to the Petrol Station at 4:00 on a Saturday to meet a friend to discuss an upcoming event. Place wasn't crowded at all, and the patrons that were there were very friendly and welcomed conversation.

The beer selection was small, only a few taps on the wall, but what beers they did have were pretty phenomenal, if you are a craft beer lover. Bartender was fairly well informed about the beer, as well.

My friend and I ordered an early dinner, he got their famous Rancor Burger and I got the Hippie Turkey Sandwich. For being a "bar" the food was pretty fantastic! I'd gladly stop in for lunch again any day!

Definitely a great little place. The only cons were the service (only 1 bartender, so no table service... I sat for about 5 minutes before figuring it out. Wish someone would have at least told me so I didn't sit there like a fool!) and the beer tap quantity. It's a great place to try a few beers you may have never had, but not quite the selection I'd like to see at a place that is trying to be beer bar that caters to beer geeks.

All in all, a great place, though! Stop in for a beer and burger... you won't regret it!

I went here w/ friends for the first time last weekend and had a fantastic time! I really enjoyed the casual, laid-back atmosphere, and their great selection of beers. I dislike restaurants/bars where the waiters hover, so I was fine with going inside to get drinks from the very friendly bartender. The outdoor tables are great, the whole place was relaxed and comfortable -- like hanging out in a friend's backyard! Prices are excellent as well. I didn't eat there, but plan to next time I go! If you want a nice place to chill and have fun w/ friends, this is it!

A neighborhood venue for a beer outside, decent food, no hassle with parking. If you can overlook the dirty tables, broken chairs and the total indifference of the owner and only employee serving who could care less that you are there. I am from out of town visiting and looked forward to walking over and even brought friends. I felt we needed to apologize for barging into this inner sactum reserved for the "boys at the bar". There is a great opportunity for this model in Garden Oaks. This one is cashing in on being the only venue. If only they had some competition to raise the bar.

The homemade russian dressing on the reuban is what sent me over the edge. Good for relaxing and chilling out with a few freinds to enjoy a great beer selection and even better food.
All in all its now one of my top ten in Houston.

This coffee house was excellent. I was late to work and I needed good, quick, hot coffee so I would not be late! When I took the first sip of coffee, it literally made my day because it was so good!

The full menu launched a few months ago or so, and the place has been blowing up. The food is great. You get ample helpings of great bar food with serious efforts made to provide fresh, quality ingredients. I like the unique burgers, and the England meets Texas attitude of the menu.

The beer selection is not huge, but almost every single beer is a top notch selection. They specialize in American micro-brews. Most tend to be VERY high in alcohol and flavor. If you are a hop-head, this is your bar. Rumor has it he's getting capability to distribute a cask conditioned ale soon.

The Monday beer tastings are legendary. Too bad they are so exclusive and infrequent these days now that

Those poor saps working there need some help. I see the same 2 guys working there every time I'm there.

A run of the mill place, the bartender was inhospitable, even after the fact I explained this was the first time in. I went on a Saturday night around 11:30. I think there were 4 people in the place and a table of people outside (dead by my standards). The clientele was younger and seemed to have the "I"m cooler than you attitude." The bartender left from behind the bar to go out back and drink beer. I tried to make conversation about music choices that were playing but it was like hitting a great big old bell and getting a clank! A real ladies feminine wash! The service was okay. I hate it when you are had to feel like your bothering someone. Maybe it was an off night? Final thoughts, I was in the catering business and a bartender for few years. Yes I saw it. I wouldn't go back again......

I have been coming to this place for 2 years now. It hold a wonderful memory for me because I met my very best friend there.

Ok, so there isn't much of a beer selection, but there are other selections for beverages. However, the atmosphere is relaxing...that is the key! Unlike Onion Creek and those other places, this place is not loud and you can actuall hear what the person your are with is saying! The patio area is great and so is the inside and the owner has been improving on it on a daily basis. I know because I usually pass there on my way to pick up my child from school.
The Onion Creek is very "stuffy" to me and when I am no in the "stuffy" mood, I like this place.

Also, up the street there are two or three more places to go hang out.

The fact that this is within a neighborhood is wonderful and it is also safe. There is a neighborhood police around. Again, it is also relaxing and friendly and clean.

Read up on this place on city search. The reviews might have hyped it up too much. It's just a your local neighborhood dive - nothing to go out of your way to find. Beer selection is nothing, 4 random beers on tap, and they weren't even cheap! Food was marginal, atmosphere was casual and well... I basically felt like I was in some radom person's house eating their food on dixie plates. And not in the 'cool laid-back' way - but in the 'awkward, lets hurry up and finish so we can leave' way.

If you live within 2 miles, go check it out meet your neighbors, otherwise head over to Onion Creek, which is similar but a much nicer place to hangout for a couple of hours.
