My name is Sylvia Rosenzweig and I possess a CA teachers credential with many years of experience in the public schools. I have been teaching at this Center for the last six years and I love it. I taught in the Irvine Unified School District and was a Mentor teacher as well as Teacher of the Year. I wrote more than 30 different instructional handbooks still being used by many of the teachers in Irvine today. I keep up with the latest instructional techniques by taking courses at local colleges and universities online as well as at the schools. I always provide my own curricular program as well as helping students with their homework each day, if needed. I try to meet the needs of each individual student on their own level. I interact with the other tutors and find them to be highly trained and well informed credentialed teachers with a lot to offer students. I am very impressed with the quality of the staff at HT learning Center and am proud to be a member of this excellent teaching group!

Unfortunately we had to turn away certain students because we didn't feel they were a fit for the Center (in terms of certain behavior), and this has caused a few to write what I feel are unfair or inaccurate commentaries about the center and the tutors. The Center has three locations and has expanded over the years due to many success stories, which are noted at the website and numerous letters of recommendations posted at the office. It may appear more "expensive" than most centers or recreational facilities but the Center 1. only focuses on academics, 2. does not hire college or high school students to tutor and 3. only allows 4 students max per instructor. Comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges (esp. programs with the same teacher student ratio of 1 to 4), it is actually much more affordable than many centers I've seen or worked at in the Irvine District. The Center offers free trial tutoring sessions, so students or parents can assess for themselves the quality of the programs without commitment and many are very pleased to see the dedication and competence of the tutors. I look forward to meeting and working with new students at the Center.

I attended Harvard tutoring a few years back and it left one of THE WORST tastes in my mouth EVER! The director, Katherine, I believe, was a nut job. The tutors were even worse.

The whole entire summer when I was supposed to be learning next year's material, I learned that 1. Her tutors were incompetent. 2. She was incompetent, and 3. I was apparently a very manipulative student?

Who knows. As a tutor and director of Harvard tutoring, she should have been ashamed of herself. Her students learned nothing and her prices were sky high.

Over the last few years, I've noticed that this place is expanding, but as an attendee of Excelsius Academy, I will continue to recommend Excelsius over Harvard Tutoring.

Pros: Absolutely nothing

Cons: Everything!

I would NOT send my kid back here again. The price is high yet the quality is just 1/100 of what they charge. My kid actually had to tutor the other kids in the class since they squeeze so many kids in one room. And did I mention CRAZY director? I can't believe I actually let her talk me into putting my kid there. Such a scam! If there is only negative star rating I would give this a negative 5.
And for sure the comment below is posted up by one of the employees. Perhaps by her! Lucky that my kid is alert enough to detect if the place is a good fit.

My son attended Harvard Tutoring for about 2 years. He will be attending UCI next year. His grades improved dramatically during his junior and senior year, to my great pleasure and surprise. He used to get Bs and Cs and even Ds on his report cards, but got mostly As in his last 2 years. Most of my friends say that Harvard Tutoring is costly, but they only put a maximum of 4 students per teacher, which makes such a big difference in their improvement. Sometimes there are only 2 students in his group. I have taken my son to almost every tutoring center in the area, and was very disappointed with the poor results. Most of them have 10 to 12 students in one group. I want my son to come back in the Fall to get tutoring for his college courses. Mostly importantly, Dr. Truong really cares about her students. But beware she runs a very tight ship and tells you as it is. She has a surveillance system with a camera in each classroom to monitor staff and students. You can watch your students on the big TV in the lobby to see what your child is doing and what the teacher is doing. There is a long list of Students Rules that is posted and signed by students. Students are not allowed to talk in class, use cell phones or, I heard, even wear nail polish. Boys and girls are asked to stand separately while waiting for parents to pick them up. There are tons of restrictions, apparently not only for students but for the teachers. She chastises students when they don't do their work, and even calls them at home to make sure they are not playing video games. She called my son at the library to make sure that he was doing his work as he promised. My son says the place is too restrictive and the teachers are tough on you. It's not a place for kids who just want to go to be with their friends and have fun. If you want to invest in your child's education, you should try HTOC. In the long run, it actually saves you more money. My family is indebted to Dr. Truong for how she has run the center and for what she has done for my son. My letter of reference is on the window at the center and they can give you my contact number if you want to hear about my experience.
