So despite seeing one very poor review about the Summerfields restaurant online we decided to take a chance because of a rumor that a fantastic French chef who used to work at Duchesse Anne had recently come aboard (further supported by a sign outside the restaurant that states #1 rated chef). Let me just state that if that chef actually is in charge of the kitchen then he has slipped into a state of delirium about what makes decent food. If he is not in charge of the kitchen he should get a really good lawyer and sue any person who connects his name with the place. We will say that the service was not that bad and the bottled beer we ordered was cold. That is where the positive feedback ends. Please also take into consideration that this visit was on a Friday night, high ski season, at about 8 PM. The dinner rolls that were brought out were nice and warm, fresh and crunchy on the surface?the center was frozen, yes like an ice cube. That should have been a warning but I guess we are gluttons for punishment. The ??baked? brie was actually a battered and deep fried wedge that was not melted. The apple fritters served with it were thick slices of apple also battered and deep fried. The raspberry vinaigrette was from a bottle. There were supposed to be candied walnuts, but there were none. The caeser salad was made primarily from the whites of the romaine(which had rust on them) and was served with boxed croutons. Finally, our entrees were edible but that was about it. The Cajun catfish (the #1 seller according to the menu) was overcooked, served on a pile of mashed potatoes with a garlic butter sauce that made everything on the plate soaked. The Napa valley stuffed chicken was missing the walnuts (again) and was overcooked. Not sure where the mushrooms came from maybe they thought I would mistake them for walnuts. Honestly there are more things to mention but I??m sure there is some limit on length for this review. Guess what? We didn??t even try dessert. I guess even we learned not to push our luck.

I wouldn't recommend anyone eating at this establishment. My husband and I arrived there before the dinner rush, and decided to take our meal outside. They were out of two different things we tried to order. After ordering we decided to play some pool, only to find it was missing a couple of balls. When our appetizers came we sat down to eat and not two minutes later the waiter came with our dinner. He said the cook just quit and they wanted to get our dinner out of the way to prepare for the rush. Then the bees and mosquitos came, so we asked if we could move inside. For the remainder of the meal the waiter checked on us only once; we had to wait ten minutes for a refill of soda. My husband had to get his attention to let him know we were ready for our check. We tried to be jovial about the whole situation.

When we went to pick up our children from my inlaws they asked us where we ate. We told them and my mother-in-law, said, "Oh, no...not there. When we ate there they had a cook that quit and said they were trying to stay ahead of the dinner rush." Needless to say, I will never have dinner there again.

PROS: The outside was decorated nicely, and the food was better than decent.
CONS: I felt like we were in the way.
