Ratings_icons Average Bar, Spectacular Waitress

eat_club

Is Erin the best waitress in New York? Nope. I think Ellen at Fanelli's has that base covered. Marta at The Patriot gave her a run for her money, but she's since been fired, I hear. BUT, Erin is sure one of the top handful of waiter/tresses who has the personality to bring a smile to the lips of even a Chicago Cubs fan. Right there! Joking, bringing us the right stuff. Telling us about her adventures in med-school. (She's putting herself through Columbia. Yeah!) Everything you'd want that's legal and proper to give on a first meeting. She made our night! The food was nothing special, although the Buffalo Chicken Tenders were above average, in both taste and serving size. The tap beer selection: Yuengling, Sam Adams, Brooklyn, Blue Moon, was average for midtown. It if weren't for Erin, this would have been a pretty ordinary place, but it WERE for Erin and it was spectacular! --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers

Pros: Nice atmosphere, crowd thins at 10

Cons: average beer selection, slightly pricey

Ratings_icons Best sports bar the East Side

I live on 52nd street and 1st ave, this bar has become my local. I get in there 2 to 3 times a week for dinner and enjoy watching the games on a Sunday at the bar (plenty of TVs and multiple games on). The bartenders/Waitresses are very friendly and attentive. I only wish I had found this place sooner!

Pros: Great bartenders, Great Food

Cons: none

My fiancee Pattama and I like to go there on Sundays and rewind. They have a bartender who seems to work every Sunday from Ireland, his name is Paul who takes great care of us.We're from the neighborhood, and the friendly atmosphere Paul creates at the bar has helps us meet other local people. We drink bottled beer and the food is tasty, this is my first time writing a review.

Pros: Bartender

Ratings_icons SO RUDE!

megschmel

Dont waste your time here, please. I have never been treated more rudely by a bartender/manager!!
He made me leave the bar because I did not order a drink and was just sitting with my friends.
However, my other friends were drinking...
Not to mention it was a Saturday night around midnight and the bar was empty.
If the bar was crowded, there is no way I would have taken a chair and not ordered a drink...but there were a good 20 chairs open at the bar at that time.
He said to me, "you come in here, put your feet up on the chair and dont even order a drink"
He said it was the managers rule and then when we asked to speak with the manager, miraculously he was the manager! Go figure...what an *$%. I am sorry he has to work at a slow bar on a saturday night but the last thing is she do, is be rude to customers.

On a slow Saturday night, a group of my friends got together for a birthday party. We had just had margaritas with a very expensive dinner. Being smart enough to know their financial and physiological limits, some of the group decided to just enjoy the company of friends. When the bartender (and manager) told us that the two out of six members of our party who were not drinking could not sit at the bar, we presumed he was joking, as there was no business that we could have possibly been blocking. He returned a second time and was very nasty, insisting that if we didn't even try to spend some money, we had to leave (while we had already ordered three beers and a tanqueray and tonic). Any good manager knows that the customer is always right. However, we were told we'd "grow up someday" (very funny from a man who was probably younger than a few of us!) and ordered to get out. We'll never go back again.

Ratings_icons Great sports bar for Lunch

msa23ic

The Press Box definitely a step above your average mid-town sports bar. They have great flat screen tvs always tuned to the game of the day. The food is solid, but not great. But then again what do you get at most sports bars. Service is good and the prices, especially lunch deals are very good.

Pros: Lots of TVs, Good food, good service

Clearly a self promoting ad from the business. I think there are 4....yes 4....28 inch flat screens. They are ok to watch but a little too small for blind bats like myself. The bar decor is nice and it's a good happy hour place after working with the fellow pencil necks that act busy all day but do 10 mins of work.

Bar food is bar food. The fries are frozen kind and kinda tough.

Ratings_icons Nice place, bland food

jahkay510

Although the prix fixe is a great price at $19.99, the food is lacking. My chicken cream soup was bland and the chicken was overcooked. I ordered the shrimp scampi for dinner and it was tough and did not taste anything. The veggies that came with my entree tasted as if they had gone bad. The dessert was also lacking - the apple crisp was more dry crisp with only a couple bites of apple. This is definately a place to go for drinks and then get dinner somewhere else! I have to say the seating at the bar and dining areas are very nice and the service is exceptional.

Pros: seating, bar, cleanliness

Cons: bland food

Ratings_icons great food, great price

the prix fixe is the best deal...
nice quiet dining area in the back, busy bar area in the front - food is always fresh tasting and well prepared. not your typical pub/bar food - and my favorite place in the neighborhood.

Pros: food, quiet dining, price
