I have been going here for a few years (just routine stuff) and didn't realize how great they were until my dog (Sadie) got really sick and I thought she was going to die. I didn't have an appointment and they were booked but they told me to come right down because she was sick. When I got there, they were really busy but got us in immediately and the vet was in the room examining Sadie within a few minutes. I knew the vet must have been busy but she never made me feel rushed, explained everything and answered all my questions. It turned out that Sadie had lymes disease and she is back to normal after getting medication. Over the next few days, both the vet and the staff called to check on Sadie. It takes me weeks to get my doctor to call me back (and it's usually the nurse who calls). The clinic is very modern and clean and the techs and receptionists are friendly and real animal lovers.

The hospital changed ownership in 2008 and the vets and staff are fantastic. My dog is a treasured member of our family and we want the best care available for him. The receptionists, technicians and vets are all very compassionate and offer high quality care.

Kindness compassion and expertise and doing everything possible in our dogs last day. We look forward to someday introducing the staff to another pet of ours knowing that dog or cat will be in wonderful hands.

In December 2005 my dog developed a dark black patch of hair and an odor. The vet said it was just a "special spot" and the smell was a normal dog odor. Many more spots developed, the odor worsened, the hair fell out and the underlying skin was black, red, scaly and sometimes bleeding. Many expensive test and no results. SIX MONTHS later they said it was fleas! It wasn't. I took him to Shawsheen Animal Hospital in Tewskbury, MA and in ONE month they did more for him than Hamstead did in 6. He is MUCH better and happier. I had to give him antibiotics, sulfur dips and weekly baths but his skin is healed and his hair is growing back!

PROS:
CONS: Did not help my dog. False diagnosis.

We have had two of our dogs treated her and found the service just fair. We had to have alot of expensive test done on our dog because it was loosing hair and after all the test came back they still couldn't find anything wrong with our dog. We are now going to take her to another vet.
