As a longtime employee of the Freedom Trail Foundation, I have to say I'm confused by the one star reviews here, which seem to have some kind of conspiracy theory agenda going on for them.

The Freedom Trail Foundation very clearly states on it's website, under "About the Foundation," who is on the board, who the staff is, what the mission is, and what we do.

While we certainly don't have itemized spending on our website, we are not required to do so, but as clearly stated in our case statement (available on the website), we preserve and market the Freedom Trail and it's sites. This does not mean that we own them, it means that we work with them. All Freedom Trail sites are invited to be represented on our board, and almost all of them are represented in practice. Our case statement also explicitly declares the objective of the Foundation is to create an endowment for sites to be able to draw from for preservation purposes. For example, this year, the Foundation gave $125,000 in a joint effort with the City of Boston to renovate and improve the Granary Burying Ground.

While there is a difference between "non-profit" and "charity," we offer a number of programs and reduced rates, including our school visit show, which operates well under cost in schools all over greater Boston.

The Foundation also publishes pamphlets which are made available to the public free with information on the sites and maps.

The Freedom Trail Foundation is an important partner in Boston's historic community and has strong partnerships with the City of Boston, the individual sites, and the park service.

This is a must stop on your Boston Sightseeing trip. I've toured with a costumed, in character tour guide, and without. I highly recommend going with the guide. We got lost on our own...although you can spend more time at the sites that way. Granary Burying Grounds was a highlight.

This is a red brick trail that spans throughout Boston that passes by 16 historic sites significant to the American Revolution. A great teaching tool for kids and a fun way to see and experience history in Boston. You can get maps and walk the trail on your own or, of the Freedom Foundation offer tours in costumed characters and take you along the trail with tales of persons and events of significance. They also offer a wealth of information on readings and activities to do in preparation for your tour. A great for a school field trip and a wonderful way to make history fun and see beautiful historic Boston.
