I signed a contract with Planet Beach almost two years ago. I have been waiting to get out of it forever! The people are always nice but the beds are horrible. I cant get dark unless i go everyday and lay 20 minutes. You have to make appointments but they never answer the phones. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

So I didn't believe the reviews of this tanning salon. I wouldn't go so far as to say I agree with everything that has been said, but I will admit I'm disappointed. I had a membership here but I cancelled it when I realized that the bulbs in the beds had almost 3000 hours of usage clocked on them. WHAT!?!? Guess that's why I'm not getting very dark anymore. It's too bad because it could be a great place - it's just not worth the money when they don't maintain the equipment I have switched to Sun Tan City and it has made a huge difference. Couldn't be happier!

Pros: Parking, Clean

Cons: Bulbs don't get changed

do not sign a contract at here! They have screwed over hundreds of customers by claiming to cancel contracts, then drafting their customers for months, even years after the contract has been "cancelled". The beds are very weak (you litterally have to go every day to maintain a tan, i have worked in tanning salons and know this.), YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, the owners are just sleazy used car salesmen out to screw over everyone.

do yourself a favor and go to suntan city. great beds, and no lies.

Pros: zero

Cons: dishonest, terrible business, weak tanning beds, need to make appointments

Go elsewhere. The beds are horrible. You have to go everyday to get color. The service isn't good. You have to make appointments b/c they are always so busy. Don't go in the summer time b/c it's so hot. One time, I even had to get out of my bed due to the heat. DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT THERE.

DON'T GO HERE! They will try to talk you into a contract. The few beds they do have are WEAK, you always have to make appointments, and you always have to wait even with an appointment. The sad thing is, you don't realize how bad this place is until you are stuck into the contract and you have no way out, unless, of course, you pay the large cancellation fee.

Go some place else. I tried Sun Tan City which is close. Excellent service and many STRONG beds. You can be in and out in no time. Best thing is, you can get out of your contract for free.

I've been a member for several months and have had nothing but a positive experience. The staff is very cool, accomodating, and friendly, which is uncommon these days. Everything is clean and well maintained. I'm a very happy customer and would highly reccomend this location.

I canceled my contract in Sept and was told that it would be taken care of immediatly. I asked when the last payment would be pulled from my account and the employee stated that it would end in Sept. HOWEVER, this has not happened, they have continued to pull funds from my account. I would suggest that whomever has had this happen file a formal complaint with the B (times three)or other consumer protection agency.

As for Customer Service, some of the girls there are very sweet and accomondating, however there are a few that would rather talk on thier ohones than have to deal with a client. I would overall totally avoid this place, it's not worth the hassel.

I'm surprised by the previous two reviews because I've had nothing but positive experiences at the Vandy Planet Beach. The workers (most of them are local students) are always sweet and helpful, and I've found the manager/owner's wife (mentioned below) to be the best of them all. She always takes her time to recommend more or less minutes in the booth for me based on my skin color on that day, and has been known to throw in a free packet of lotion "just because." The main drawback is that during the school year, it's PACKED with Vandy students, so make an appointment beforehand so you don't get stuck waiting for a while. But at least that's a sign that people like the place. It's so much better than that empty, awful Elite Tan in Green Hills. You want to see a leathery manager who provides some truly foul customer service (all while chatting on her cell phone), waltz into that place. I promise you'll come running back to Planet Beach.

Complete echo of the post above: so-so service while you're a member, ridiculously bad service towards rip off when you try to cancel. They will happily pretend to have never talked to you while they keep charging you for a cancelled membership.

Just for everyone's information, something they don't like to tell you, the "manager" is actually the listed owner's wife. Don't let her spout the "I'm just the manager, I have to talk to the owner" BS. She's tough to miss: middle aged, leathery brown skin and ridiculous blond hair.

My advice: just be sure to get a copy of your cancellation agreement...maybe have it notarized too, and get a picture of you and her with the agreement. Be sure to include a copy of the Tennessean in the picture to capture the date. You might also want to have her pointing to the agreement with a sad face. She'll still probably claim she's never seen you before.

I moved to Nashville last year from Florida and decided to stay with my tried and true Planet Beach as my tanning salon of choice. However, I was disappointed beyond belief with my experience at the Vanderbilt Planet Beach location. To begin, the customer service was terrible; every worker seemed to spend every second possible on their personal cell phones, barely even looking up to find my name in the computer. This happened EVERY time I visited the location. After a few months, I decided to switch to another tanning salon, but this is where things got really UGLY. I called in to cancel my account and was told that everything was "taken care of," and that my account would be canceled in a matter of weeks. I was informed that I would still be charged for the following month because that is the way the contract works, even if I don't use the salon during that time. Even in my dislike of that section of the contract, I agreed to still cancel my account and pay for the additional month. However, the month AFTER the additional month, I noticed another charge from Planet Beach on my bank account. I called to see what the problem was, and I was very rudely informed that I should have come in to cancel my account in person. Mind you, I was NOT told this over the phone during my initial conversation. I tried to explain my situation to the manager, but she refused to help in any way. She kept saying I should have "known" to come in, but how could I have known if the first person I talked to told me everything was taken care of?!?! She still refused to credit my account for the TWO additional charges, even though my account showed I had not visited the salon in 2 months. To me, it is always best to err on the side of caution and give the customer the benefit of the doubt, unless it is obvious that the customer is taking advantage. However, in this case I was the one taken advantage of, so I urge you to stay away.

Pros: Same tanning beds you will find at any Planet Beach -- good quality.

Cons: Terrible customer service and ill treatment of overcharged customer.
