I am a student at Liberty University and I have to agree with another individual's review that the school has a very heavy focus on recruiting and growing, even if it comes at the expense of the quality of the students. I am not only a senior, but also a full time staff member at Liberty and I have seen many things that I like, yet at the same time, I see many things that frustrate me.

From my perspective as a student, while my program (computer information systems) has great professors, many of whom I would consider my friend, I am frustrated because it is rather obvious that my major has not been cared about up until about 3 years ago when my department got a new chairman. The positive changes that I see now, though, will not be done soon enough to affect my education. Luckily, most programs do not have the same problem. Programs like Religion, Education, and Business are flourishing because of the attention they have received. (Maybe I'm just jealous).

As a staff memeber, I am frustrated by the fact that he highest levels of leadership at the school have made recruitment their highest goal. The emphasis on quantity over quality is frustrating to me as I watch my department (and other departments) try to get their jobs done within budget while the school somehow finds the resources to clear several hundred sq. ft. of trees off Candlers Mountain and put a huge "LU" made out of tarps on it (with plans for a more permananent solution in the future. The tarps were just for the alumni visiting that weekend).

PROS: Good value, Christian values, Good location
CONS: Focus on numbers not quality

I love Liberty University. As a student in a population of 8,000 people, their leadership structure breaks it down to a 1 to 5 ratio, making sure that people actually know your name, not just a number. It is the largest private university in the state of Viriginia. They are a great deal financially as their rates are low and many scholarships are avalible. I highly reccommend it to any students looking for a big univeristy with a small school feel.

As a 1987 Graduate, I can honestly say that Liberty is well above average in every field! All of the old rules have changed since I was a student and official staff member during the 1980's. The facilities have grown as well as the number of new students. Liberty has a great sports program with quality coaches. The DeMoss building and new Conference Center has increased the value of the Univ.

Liberty certainly has good intentions as a Christian university, but their main goal seems to be producing the highest possible number of graduates rather than quality education. They are competively priced as far as higher education is concerned.

Everyone I knew who attended here was satisfied with their schooling. This christian university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. Their Women's basketball team is GREAT, other sports are just okay, but fun for kids to see even if the team loses.
