I have had nothing but an excellent experience with my puppy from Dishong's. I am 55 and have had a few friends over the years and have gotten a sick puppy from a local whose dogs had a littler. They had their vaccinations.... and yet this puppy still got sick. Wow I guess we really don't live in a perfect world.
All this hateful speech and ignorance is really upsetting.

about a week ago i bought an english cream golden retriever named lulu from dishing puppies in johnstown when i bought her the man who owned the store told me she was up to date with all of her vaccines and then proceeded to give her the "last shot she would need" right infront of me. her name is lulu and i absolutely love her but i noticed she was extremely calm for a puppy which the guy told me she has always been calm. I didn't find it odd until she started vomiting when I brought her home and I realized how thin she was. I took her to the animal hospital where they told me she had parvo, worms, and an ear infection, and that she had been given absolutely no vaccines. Parvo is a virus that kills many dogs a year and is highly contagious to dogs who have not been vaccinated. Which I'm guessing none of those puppies are, if I wouldn't have taken lulu to the vet when I did she would have become lifeless and soon passed away. Dishonor's puppies NEEDS shut down!!! Something has to be done to help these other little puppies.

I have been to the Dishong kennels and I will say this, the dog pound is far worse! Tom definitely knows how to care for animals. I have gotten 3 dogs from him, and all of them have been wonderful. 2 are currently 7 years old, and the other is still a pup. None of them have had any healthg issues, and all of them have turned out to be wonderful dogs! To the people who feel it is their place to bad mouth a business, remember that in any retail business, there will be problems. Tom does care, and will do what it takes to make sure he is giving you the best for your money., His prices may be high at times, but have you bought gas lately? Think about it! Tom has been in business for so long because for every one of you that post something that rates his kennels or business practice as poor, there are at least 10 who post nothing at all. Why? Because they were satisfied and did not feel the need to search for a place online to say so. I would recommend Puppies by Dishong to anyone who is looking for a good dog!

I worked for Tom several weeks.Pups were kept in small cages or plastic kids pools. No outside time for them.Small and large dogs spend their lives in cages too small.Pups are bought at auctions and transported 4 to a cage from Ohio to his locations. They are NOT bred by the Dishongs.Pups are "vaccinated"by staff.Problems with pups are common. He refuses vet care and self medicates sick pups. He uses 2 medications which cancel the other out.As they become close to death, they are taken to a back room, placed in a cage and die there. Many pup deaths occur and pups NEVER see a real vet due to Tom's cheap side. There were way to many puppies per cage and/or swimming pools and the smaller meeker pups didn't get the correct amount of food.Pups were brought in every week and diseases were spread throughout the shop.Pups were sold as "healthy", as homebred by Tom, vaccinated, and "purebred. The truth is they were sick, bought at puppy mill auctions for pennies, inbred, and not vaccinated.Needless to say, I didn't last long there.

I just purchased my american eskimo spitz at Dishongs in February and had previously purchased my English bulldog at Dishongs in September of 2009.
Dishong's is a terrible place to buy your puppies from if you want a for sure healthy puppy with a breed guarantee. My bulldog I bought I love more than anything and don't regret getting out the loan to save her from this place even though I still pay on that loan almost 2 years later. When I got her she was an excited and happy puppy but as soon as I took her home I found her to be acting odd. Of course she had kennel cough and respiratory problems. I have no idea why, but both dogs I purchased are deathly afraid of the small swimming pools they were kept in at Dishong's. The only reason I went back is because a friend wanted to look at puppies and took me back in there. I found a little white dog cowering in the corner of her cage so depressed that she wouldn't even look at me so I had to buy her and rescue her. Tom wouldn't even give me a deal on her even though she was already fully grown and almost 10 months old and I ended up paying full price on her and they still couldn't give me papers for her bc apparently the family that bread her didn't feel like getting her registered.
Tom definitely does not breed the dogs in the shop as I have asked his employees and they even verified that he gets them from other people.
If you want a guaranteed healthy puppy go to a reputable breeder that gives their puppies the individual love and attention they need at that crucial time in their life.

i bought a puppy there yest. i didnt want to but i couldnt leave her there. I wont visit there again tho to avoid falling in love again. I paid $450 bucks for my dog and the jerk owner wouldnt even give me a $20 break. I have yet to take mariah to the vet but im praying she is healthy. i could never take her bsck there. Altho id rather use my own vet. i dont kno that theirs would b honest and all the reviews im reading have me terrified. WHY ARE THEY STILL IN BUSINESS? i just dont get it. I hope half the horror stories i read arent true for the puppies sake.

I purchased two puppies (at the same time) from Dishong's. One was healthy and the other was very sick. Took her to the vet right away. She had pneumonia, kennel cough and parvo. She was an expensive dog in the first place and it cost me double that to get her healthy. I'd spend the money all over again for her because she turned out to be a very loving, good dog. I think somehow she knows I rescued her from that place and then I saved her life.

I am so outraged at what is going on with all these poor dogs. The humane society has been contacted and I can only pary that these dogs will be rescued.

First let me say that those that gave dishongs a positive rating are either fools or incompetent.Because this place is a horror house for animals.I bought a dog from them knowing it was a horrible place but I felt the need to rescue it,the dog ended up being def and having severe spinal issues due to inbreeding, confirmed by several vets and breeders.I only wish I could buy them all and shut this place down.

Please help us shut this place down, I dont think this place has ever been checked by any legal means. The place is filthy as are the dogs. They are kept in very small cages for months at time, never bathed or groomed, no association with people. They need walked at least 3 times a day but the owner is toop cheap to hire someone to do this and there are many who would love to including myself. There prices are outrageous.

Tom is a dishonest man. He sales sick puppies. Please do not buy a puppy from him. We got a puppy from him and within 3 days of purchase it was extremely sick of kennel cough. We followed the requirements as per contract (took the puppy to the vet, reported the sickness to Tom etc) but he tried to ignore our calls. We had to return the Dog because he was really ill and required serious attention from a vet. The puppy had cost us hundreds of dollars, we were heartbroken because we loved the puppy but he looked like he was going to die.

Tom went as far as trying to refuse to refund us our money, and he tried to deny that his contract states that the puppy could be returned within a 10 day period if found with a contagious sickness. Tom acts like he is an expert on puppy care meanwhile he has little to no formal training/degree on veterinary work. Before you decide to buy a puppy from him make sure you read the contract careful because there are so many grammatical errors on the contract.

I have never had a problem with one of Tom's dogs. He is a breeder, who cares greatly about his animals. We have purchased 5 dogs of different breeds for our family over the years. Tom has helped with any problems we had, and even offered to help with shots if we brought them to his house. Just because people dont want to pay for an animal doesnt mean you should bad mouth breeders. Do you go on craigslist and bad mouth people who charge giant "rehoming" fee's even though the website says its not to happen. How about the rescue shelters, who apply unreasonable adoption fee's. I will continue to go to dishongs to get dogs.

Excuse me to the ones who say Dishongs shop is unhealthy. Puppies , dogs , pigs, whatever! are animals and will have a smell but the shop in altoona is clean as can be.
Tom is a very nice man and DOES care about his puppies health. I have seen him in action. Who is not out to make a profit in the world? The puppies do take meds to keep them safe from illness. Just like babies that are born. If there is something wrong with your child and you are not a drug addict are you to blame? You can not guarantee the health of a child just as a puppy. I have seen nursing homes that smell worse and unhealthy more so than Dishongs puppy store in Altoona. Tom does care about his puppies! That is his business and YES he like anyone else in the world is out to make money and animals do die just as people but I have not known of Tom to NOT care about a puppy. We bought a pitt from him and he is more than willing to talk to us anytime. His cell number is there for you to call him so whoever tells the story that he does not care is full of it and THE ONES WHO WANT TO REMAIN UNKNOWN . There is a reason for that. People have killed their puppies by carelessness so dont blame it on the owner. If their is a problem , Tom will settle with you on the puppy as long as it was not your fault of the death. Dont believe everything you hear. Come check it out yourself. The girls that work in there know what they are doing and if they are new then they will call for the right answer.
I can honestly say that people who have had a problem that was not resolved had to of been because of something you let your puppy get in to or something someone has done to it because Tom will make it right if there is a problem.

MR DISHONG is MR DISHONEST & he gets his animals from the MOUNT HOPE DOG AUCTION in OHIO as well as from AMISH BACK YARD BREEDERS....Dogs are NOT seen by VETS HE GIVES THEM VACCINATIONS & WORMS THEM. HOW CAN ONE MAN "family/home raise" the OVER 25 VARIOUS BREEDS HE SELLS AT HIS 3 LOCATIONS & ON THE INTERNET TO SHIP OUT? YOU DO GET A HEALTH GUARANTEE BUT YOU CAN JUST WIPE YOUR BUTT WITH THOSE PAPERS CAUSE TOM DISHONG WONT EVEN CALL YOU BACK LET ALONE HONOR THE GUARANTEE! Start doing homework on this guy & his establishments......there are 100s of blogs about him....from heartbroken people who bought sick dogs from him....as far back as 2006 up until NOW!! Same stories from many many people ... paying hundreds for dogs who are sick, have genetic disorders, seizure disorders, many other issues resulting from bad breeding, excessive breeding of the same female, CONTAGEOUS illnesses, kennel cough, upper respatory, EVEN BLOGS FROM FORMER EMPLOYEES who obviously feel awful they ever worked there.... letting EVERYONE KNOW HE BUYS HIS PUPS FROM DOG AUCTIONS IN OHIO & THE AMISH!! Come on, yes, animals get sick & are born with problems just like people...HOWEVER it should be few and far between just like people!! Tom Dishong sells WAY TOO MANY SICK puppies for it to be "normal/and a fact of life"...... ANY LEGIT BUSINESS PERSON WOULD BE TRYING TO MAKE A BAD SITUATION RIGHT (especially so with living breathing beings such as dogs) YET THIS GUY WONT CALL BACK OWNERS and they have put $HUNDREDS$ in his pocket buying his over- priced puppies.....ANY DECENT BREEDER would be calling the people back IMMEDIATELY, offering help, trying to WORK WITH THE VET not only to help out the buyer & the puppy BUT TO ENSURE the illness/genetic problem and-or disease IS NOT HEREDITARY & won't be passed on to future litters AS WELL AS CALLING ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THAT PUPPIES SIBLINGS TO ENSURE THEY ARE HEALTHY & let them know one of it's litter mates has such a health issue so they can have their vet check their dog out!!! LEGIT BREEDERS take back their sick dogs.... all of the blogs say people are forced to keep sick animals & pay more & more vet fees until the dogs life finally ends much too short (1-3 years seems the average life span for the sick dogs owners blog about that were purchased from Tom Dishong) MOST DOGS live 8-15 years depending on the breed. ***WHY DID I WRITE THIS? I hope that lady shuts them down. I don't know why all of the other people who got sick dogs from him have not been smart enough to do the same??? There are laws to protect buyers! I bought an English Springer Spaniel from him in his then delmont store, which relocated to Irwin. I visited her several times to examine her temperment, how they interacted witht the puppies, etc. She was then 3 1/2 months old. It was her last night there, and little did the owner know that I had already plannned on buying her. I got her at 1/2 off. She already had her first series of puppy shots and only needed 1 more. I have an older dog and let me tell you how expensive all of those puppy shots are! She was dewormed so I didn't have to worry about that, and was already on advantage. I never had any problems with her. This was back in Nov '04. She is now 4 1/2 years old and is the best family dog ever.

I had talked to the owner and I knew that he breeds his own dogs. He told me about her parents, which the markings do show in her coat, as there are 2 types of english springers...field and bench. He gave me take home supplies and vet records as well. I could have also called up the vet he used to verify the info, and I still can if I chose to.

Just throughly check out any place that you plan on getting a new family addition. I've heard many horror stories from shelters and such, so you never know.Let me just say that I am not defending any particular person/company, just stating my own experience, and that alone does not make me incompetent as a dog owner or a a fool. As for an update, I brought home our springer spaniel back in Nov '04 and she is the best family dog with absolutely no health problems what so ever. I have an older mixed breed dog who I "saved" from else where and has had debilitating health problems since she was 2 1/2 years old. Now, nobody is perfect and Tom was very honest with me. The only health problem this "bad puppy mill breeding" dog has is bad teeth, which we've had to have a few pulled out. I originally wrote a review 3 years ago. I'm now just simply updating it.

I really don't care what people think of this place, i have a german shepard who is healthy as a horse, and he was reasonably priced. I took him to the vet and the vet cleared him of everything. The employees are great and im glad i went. To anyone who bad mouths this place, go somewhere else!

This man is solely making profit off his puppies. All are bred by him in very unclean conditions. I have heard horror stories about puppies bought from him that later died.
