I love the show that Riverbend sponsors every year. I always plan to shop there Memorial Day weekend. I can find the best and most unusual gifts for everyone, even my hard to buy for grandmother, at Art in the Park. They have jewelry, metal workers, painters, photographers, woodworkers stained glass and so much more!

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! I have taken four classes at Riverbend Arts Center and plan to take more. I began with the Beginners Wire Wrapping class taught by the patient and talented Donna Kuszpa. The price for the nine week session was reasonable and when I finished the course I had nine pieces of jewelry, three of which I sold to friends as soon as I showed them. I took the intermediate course and improved my skills. Once I had begun making jewelry, I found myself wanting to wrap more stones and took the Lapidary class where I learned to cut and polish my own stones. Keith Singerman, who teaches the class is an enthusiastic rock hound from way back when, and part gnome I think in his knowledge and love of rocks and minerals. The expensive equipment is available when class is not in session for a reasonable dollar an hour lab fee. I found I didn't have the patience for this although I learned a lot so I tried another class in working with silver clay, taught by the effervescant and accomplished Trish Jeffers-Zeh, whose work has been exhibited as far away as Japan. By this time, I felt confident enough to enter my work in the annual Student Art Show which accompanies Riverbend's annual Art in the Park festival and took second place in my category. I cannot express the feelings of pride and accompishment that have accompanied my experiences at Riverbend. Art in the Park offers the opportunity to view the work of other students and also to become acquainted with many of the instructors who demonstrate the skills they teach in painting, drawing, jewelry, photography, wood carving, pottery and many other fields. I recommend Riverbend to anyone interested in exploring their creative side. It is affordable and the instructors are awesome. Short workshops are also available throughout the year.
