Pros: delicious wings, great service, cozy fireplace

Cons: parking

Love the friendly staff, the open atmosphere, the great classic food with a little twist. The spicy fries are amazing, the veggie burger is wonderful along with the grilled sweet potatoes! Every time we come here it's just plain great food. Did I mention the fresh raspberry mojitos??? You must try one!

Pros: best chicken fingers (with crushed walnut crust) ever

Cons: no cons-it's all delish!

Awesome happy hour specials and excellent and attentive wait staff (Kyle is the best!). The food is always amazing and there's always an intriguing selection of rotating beers available.

Great happy hour spot in a fantastic location. The food is good, but the best part is their sangria. It is a little expensive, but it is absolutely worth it.

I work nearby and this is a favorite lunch spot amongst my coworkers. Devils Alley has great salads and sandwiches, and the service is pretty fast. There is also a full bar, which leads me to believe this place is fun at night!

Excellent Specials as long as you are not in a rush. Food was fantastic but service was quite slow. Only recommend for those with a leisurely schedule. Try the apple-grilled cheese. It is delicious.

We have been eating Sunday Brunch here off and on for a couple of years and have always been quite impressed. My wife's family was in the city this past Sunday and we took them here around noon and the place was packed, luckily the hostess, who was incredibly nice, told us to hang on just a sec and she ran upstairs and put a table of 7 together for us in the balcony area overlooking Chestnut Street. Everything was great as usual and the food came up fast and hot, my father-in-law claimed that the "Devil Burger" he had might have been one of the best cooked burgers he ever ate in a restaurant, and that is saying a lot coming from him! I am not one to come on to websites and write reviews, but after my wife pointed out to me that someone wrote a review on this site, and mentioned our family significantly I felt compelled to have my say. Our server/bartender was more than accommodating to everyone in our party, and was constantly smiling and laughing, pretty much being on top of everything from what I could tell. I thought she was wonderful. Not to mention the fact that there were other employees paying attention to us as well. Also, the manager (I believe) served us half our food and refilled our coffees, talking to us about the upcoming Giants/Bengals game and bringing up a dish of goldfish crackers for my sister-in-law's infant. As for the person that complained about their experience and us specifically, I'm not quite sure what they where smoking, but some people can just not be pleased. It's a shame, because we'll be back again, and again, and again. Devil's Alley really has figured out how to do brunch right in this city, and that is an affordable relief!

Pros: eggs up!

.

Went here a few weeks ago had my usual, the chorizo & jal eggs, was satisfied as per usual. This time not only were the eggs sent back because they were overdone & only had 4 small pieces of chorizo (WTF???!!!) they were greasy & oily as well when they came back and still were brown/overdone in spots. That's unacceptable for scrambled eggs. Moreover when the bartender-- I sat at the bar this time-- came to get my order after avoiding my eyes for over 15 minutes when it was clear I was ready to order, she asked "Know what you want? "What do you want?" something to that effect. Really B??? No smile, no hello. No apology for keeping me waiting for so long. Gee, hipster fool. Sorry that your job is so taxing & that the place was busy but I'm a semi regular, coming back even though I had a bad experience once, you spent 5 minutes blowing sunshine up the patoots of the party of 7 who seemed to be pretty demanding; you could not even give me a friendly greeting? That's why you got no tip. I was an afterthought to your lame blonde butt & you should have known better. I'm in the legal profession & usually tip upwards of 20%. You treating me like a 2nd class citizen cost you about $4 today. And your manager who took the eggs away & brought me the second dish should also learn to be less rude. If the customer is always right then why are you looking at me as if I have two heads and am an incredibly greedy/annoying/selfish person for not liking the eggs and asking for a new plate. You could have at least looked at the plate when I mentioned there were only like 4 pieces of chorizo and that the eggs were overcooked. Instead you kept looking at me like "How dare she complain. Who do these black people think they are? Typical complainers." Sorry but I had my birthday party at Devil's 2 years ago. Probably not this coming year, you folks are too rude. Your loss, my friends also tip well and this is a milestone birthday, I would have had y'all cater. Again your loss.

Pros: The eggs are good usually, drinks are also good

Cons: Service is RUDE.

I went with a party of four for dinner at 7:00 PM with no reservations, and no problem getting a seat (happy hour had just ended and moved over to Drinker's Pub). Our waitress was very attentive, and brought plenty of napkins prior to us asking. We had the Sam's BBQ wings for appetizer and they were great. The potato salad on the side was somewhat dry. For dinner, I had the roast turkey platter which was just as good as Thanksgiving dinner. Their stuffin' muffins are great for people who like crispy stuffing. The mashed sweet potatoes side came with toasted marshmallows on top which was a good treat. My boyfriend had the Alaskan cod, which was a huge portion. It was the special for the night, and came with the most delicious hush puppies I've had. They were definitely homemade, and a bit spicy. Our two friends also enjoyed their dinners.

I love this place. I have been there so many times and the service has always been fantastic, prompt seating, prompt greeting. The last time I was in was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed, our server still took the time to tell us about the dinner specials specials and answer our wine questions. They are currently featuring organic and biodynamic wines which is unexpected at a place called "The Devil's Alley." Here is my recommendation, ask your server to recommend a wine that pairs well with spicy food, order a plate of the spicy dry rub wings and then try to hate this place. I think you will find it impossible.

Pros: comfort food and delightful specials like lager steamed mussels and seared duck breast

Cons: happy hour is a little crazy

I ate here for brunch on a Sunday. It was really good. Simple but creative dishes at a very reasonable price. The drinks looked great too, but unfortunately I wasn't in the mood for alcohol. Next time I would love to try their bar at night, it seemed like a very cool place to go get drinks. The bathrooms were also very interesting.

I work right around the corner from this place and had walked by it several times without giving it much notice. One afternoon while walking by their sign that boasts they had 'devilishly good wings' caught my eye so I decided to give it a try. Much to my delight, the food was heavily seasoned and far beyond what I expected. In fact it was so good that I went back for two days in a row afterward to give their other menu items a try. I ordered my meals as takeout so I didn't experience any poor in-house service. The servers who took and brought my order to me were extremely friendly. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated and has lots of character. I have no complaints from my experience eating here. From here on out I will be a faithful customer.

to all of you who knock this restaurant, i have a few words of advice for you - if you want to be at a fancy place, go somewhere else. it's obviously not what they were going for. drinker's, noche, devil's alley... come on, it's not meant to be an upscale formal restaurant. the food is good, the drinks are delicious (try the raspberry mojito) and, for the most part, the servers are pretty darn good. it's a busy place, so expect noise. if you're looking for a quiet place to do brunch or have a romantic dinner, go somewhere else, seriously. i personally am a fan of devil's alley, but that's because i like the layout, design, and overall feel of the place. you can watch a baseball or football game upstairs around the bar, or sit at a table downstairs. either way, i'm happy to say it's a casual and cool place to dine - so leave her alone, or give her a chance.

The food was great and the service was good but there was this old blonde haired lady(the owner) who was very rude and she made the whole dining experience horrible. She was buzzing around our table as if she didn't appreciate two young black women sitting at her booth tables and even tried to redirect us to a table on her second flr after we were seated. I LIKE THE FOOD BUT WILL NEVER RETURN B/C OF HER TREATMENT!

For my bachelorette party, Devil's Alley was more than accomodating - the waiters and waitresses even helped to set the table for my group in the space reserved upstairs! Before/since then, we have been back many times; dry rub wings are the best wings I've ever had. You can't go wrong with any of the salads here. If you're looking for a quick carb fix, try the stuffin' muffins. Service is friendly and fast, atmosphere is cool (neat paintings deck the walls, balcony/window seating overlooking Chestnut Street is nice). Most unique bathroom of anywhere I've ever been (kind of creepy in the basement, with paintings that have ranged from devils to now skeletons on the M/W doors, and lots of other paintings). Love this place and will return.

I can't believe that I found a place with great ribs AND atmosphere AND sides! Everything was terrific and the server was friendly and well trained. So many places have good smoky ribs but crappy sauce. This place has fab ribs and homemade sauce plus the side dishes were very good. Will return soon......

the service is horrible. I get take out from Devil's because I know if I sit down and eat I will be too angry to ever come back... maybe it's the fact that they have a high turn-over rate of staff but the service is always bad. I was particularly angry today when picking up food- the hostess was very rude. It's ashame because Devil's Alley could be ALOT better if it wasn't for the poor training of the staff.

The name of this restaurant couldn't be better. The owner is notorious for treating her customers viciously at all her restaurants. Why bother eating here? Save your money .
The childrens menu is a testament to how little care is put into the food. My niece couldn't even choke down the terrible hamburger. The chicken salad sandwich had no taste, they brought the wrong order and acted like it was OUR fault of course. The place is dirty, the restrooms are both uncomfortable and filthy. The cocktails are weak and tasteless. They refuse to open the windows - so you can comfortably eat outside instead of being smashed up against the glass doors for brunch on a gorgeous day- until they are good and feel like it.
Devils alley is a perfect name.

I really like the second floor bar at Devil's Alley, they have lots of draft beers and a nice balcony. Our office has had a couple happy hours in the back of the upstairs and we went for center city sips last week -- the servers are friendly and the dollar appetizers are good. I'll probably go other days than Wednesday because it was so busy.

As a Philadelphia resident I have eaten at this restaurant many times, but the only thing that keeps me coming back is the food. I've noticed that the quality of food is excellent from the spicy rub wings to the bbq ribs. Excellent is an understatement sometimes because somehow the taste stays fresh in my mind. However I have noticed some things that make the dining experience less than palatable. The floors in the downstairs areas are disgusting. Having not been finished, they resemble what a busy restaurant floor would look like if not mopped for a very long time, dirty and almost to the stick point. Another thing to mention is the inability of the wait staff to mention happy hour prices when dining in the downstairs area. Why only mention this deal to the upstairs crowd? If you're going, make sure to ask for happy hour wherever you sit. I have also noticed that when ordering soup from this restaurant they offer to sizes that are extremely different in price but not in size. The cup of soup appears to contain the same amount of soup as the bowl, but in a different container. Why the extra cost?

I've worked in the Rittenhouse area for the past year and have enjoyed Devil's alley for lunch with my coworkers (and the occasional happy hour/happy many hours). I recently discovered brunch at Devil's Alley after encountering a 2 hour wait at one of our other favorite brunch spots -- and it was excellent -- creative food but large portions. Friendly servers and a nice, sunny atmosphere (so I don't feel like I'm eating in the bar I was at last night). This will be my regular brunch go-to from now on.

Did you ever go to a restaurant, stare at the menu for an eternity and find that nothing strikes your fancy? Well, that's Devil's Alley. I have been there a few times for a quick brunch, lunch and dinner but had the same experience every time because the menu is very limited. The bar upstairs is spacious, but the space is somehow hollow and cold. It makes for a good quick bite, but don't expect to be dazzled by the food.
Incidentally, the same owner operates the quaintly eclectic "Sam's Grill" on the Main Line where the food is tasty, imaginative and healthful as well. This is why I had high hopes for the Alley, but so far it has been a disapointment.

I'm a neighbor and eat in this restaurant several times a week. This food is great, it's not expensive, the bartender is so pleasant that he seems to have a following and the servers (I've gotten to know a couple of them) are all students at Penn, Drexel, Temple and the art schools. There seem to be quite a few regulars, and everyone seems to love the spicy wings. I don't eat usually eat spicy food, but the Alley Rub Ribeye was excellent, the soup is always great and the salads are my favorite. I just ate the pecan crusted goat cheese and beet salad. Outstanding! Also, small but great beer selections on tap. Definitely a great neighborhood addition!

I got sick from the food, the barttender was creepy, and the waiter had long disgusting finger nails, the plac e looks nice but that where the goodness ends. I also know of other people who have gottwn sick from the food, the manager was patronizing, and seemed to be concerned with getting her word in more then she was with my concerns. In short the only way I would recommend this place would be to someone I hated, or if they closed and reopened under new management, and employees, because it is really cozy for a big place.

Devil's Alley had some great hits on a recent visit but some big misses too. All in all a great meal (if you know what to order)

Here's what to get:
The trio of BBQ sandwiches (pork, beef, and chicken) could not have been any better. Each is served on a small fresh slider roll, and the meats were tangy and juicy.
For dessert, we enjoyed a homemeade peanut butter banana bread pudding. Very rich but not overwhelming with chocolate drizzled on the top. One of the best desserts we've tried in a while.
Also good are the small cornbread muffins.

What not to get:
Either the BBQ'd ribs (which were meager sized, fatty and had little meat to them) or the BBQ'd chicken (which was also nothing special with the somewhat greasy BBQ sauce).
The baked beans tasted very canned and needed more sauce and seasoning.
The grilled sweet potatoes were good but also lacked zing, as they too could benefit from some brown sugar or something else on the top

The service was great and the atmostphere is relaxing.

Devil's Alley had some great hits on a recent visit but some big misses too. All in all a great meal (if you know what to order)

Accidently bumped into the Alley and it's never disappointed since. If you are looking for a place for whatever reason (dinner date, party, happy hour, lunch, brunch, or just hanging out) consider the Alley. It's like the friend of yours with such a unique style who just fits in with anyone without being trendy. Music is eclectic/WXPN type mix. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, down to earth, and maintain what is already a loose vibe. Prices are better than reasonable and their specials are addictive. The amount of brews on tap isn't overwhelming, but the variety will make any beer snob happy. Bottle selection is large. Whether its the food, drinks, or service, it's all about quality. You can see the owners and staff give careful attention to all three. Any place that can serve roasted duck, BBQ wings, or a martini with equal skill and panache is worth a visit.

Pros: Ambeince, Service, Food

Cons: Happy Hours are croweded.

Came upon this place while out walking, we had never even heard of it. It was a great experience. We had the wings, a burger and ribs. Thumbs way up to all three.
We will definitely go back there!

Pros: Food and service

Cons: there is a brunch, nothing called Devil's Alley should have a brunch

I just ate here with my mom. We had this great appetizer - bbq pork and cheddar wontons with mango sauce. They take normal ingredients that you know and love (mac and cheese, for example) and put a twist on them, creating surprising flavors. The decor is nice. It was clean and we got our food quickly. My salad was just a little bit above average, and our waiter wasn't the best, but overall I think this place is worth going to again.

We went with 9 people this weekend. Got right in to a table in this cozy little separate section of the second floor-- looking over the balcony down to the first floor. 4 or 5 of us had burgers on the server's recommendation. Ive had some great burgers in philly-- monk's, North 3rd, even the Kobe sliders at Barclay Prime-- Devil's alley's burger might be the best. There is no way it was a frozen pattie. That guy rurorocks who posted on here is delerious. Ill be back for that burger for sure... (and some more of that Victory Hopdevil I had 3 pints of)

In Short
Set up to mimic an urban park, this bi-level restaurant and bar is lush with potted plants, patio furniture and garden benches. The menu blends comfort foods--whole BBQ chickens, onion rings, marshmallow-topped sweet…
